The truth hurts does it?

eta: oops

The Independent reports Italian doctor estimates 10% of cases require ICU.
"UK hospitals are already discussing how they will need to ration care to those most likely to survive in the event there are not enough beds, ventilators or staff to care for the numbers infected if the worst case scenario predictions prove accurate." Fuuuuck.

In the US, King County's Evergreen Health released and then deleted this 'community message' stating they are no longer testing for wuflu because the CDC has declared the virus 'endemic': http://archive.li/e1uko

Case linked to infected AIPAC conference in LA. No doubt more undetected cases out there. https://mobile.twitter.com/NBCLA/status/1236405282248458240

First CPAC case detected: https://mobile.twitter.com/PhilipWegmann/status/1236415249772937221
Unclear if this is cross-contamination with AIPAC or its own thing.

Wuflu cases linked to Grand Princess passangers continue to pop up.

Been consuming a lot of plague documentaries lately. One interesting things is this stuff happens in waves.

Spanish flu died down when the weather warmed up, only to come back in the fall and kill way more people. It mutated over the summer. Something to think about, Considering we're at least a year from a possible vaccine. I also wonder how long this will stay in the news. Unfortunately news and politicians are using this as a cudgel. This side isn't taking it seriously, this side is trying to cause panic, etc. I think the west is just going to let this burn threw the population stonks>lives

Here's the data from WHO on the mortality rate by age. It's our parents and their parents that are in for a very nasty ride. Given the age of the senate and an assumed infection of 40%, we will see quite a few House Reps and Senate members go.

I keep seeing this pop up everywhere and it seems to be based on a study out of china that came out mid feb
Edit: Found it

I live in Bongoland. In a rural area. With mainly older people (over 50 is a major demographic relatively here as it's a place where people retire to, before they die).

One major shortage has been paracetamol (yanks call it tylenol/acetaminophen) and the ibuprofen has run out as well. You can only buy two packs of either/or at a time, because things are so grim here the govt. is worried about people offing themselves.

Not sure what they expect to do all these old coffin dodgers if they get it - take loads of painkillers? There's a major demographic of over 70's here as well. They say the old people's homes are death's waiting room, but this town is death's long queue down the road before you get in to the waiting room. They are very frail. You see them off for one last jolly of buying their milk and bread by themselves. Probably slipped off their carers. You dare not ask to give them help, else you get beaten by a brit bong walking stick and told to 'piss off you young scallywag, do I look like a decrepit old codger to you?'. Kind of thing. So you just stand there as the take 20 minutes to find their wallete. Moths fly out. Cash is king for these old codgers. No one dare help, else you get another leathering. Sad.

Anyway, we get our groceries delivered to the door here anyway, so a run on the one shop in town is not likely till SRHTF.

One thing however, is that I sometimes make small talk with the local grocery packers in this one shop, and they are all clued up on it. Even the dumbos. I suggested taking mega-doses of vit. C (just to see their reaction) and they were like, oh, yeah, we know all about that, but it gives you the runs. So they have obviously been doing their homework lately. They aren't the type to know side-effects from mega-dosing on vitamins and minerals.

But there's a definite frisson in the air. It won't take much now to cause real panic. Humans are herd animals at the end of the day. And it only takes a couple of cows at the front to get spooked over nothing much at all, and then the farmer and anyone else on that narrow path gets trampled.

We've had a bit of panic buying in the shops, but the supermarkets are going to have to start putting checks in place soon or else the old racketeering and gouging will come in to play, not to mention the really rich people buying up all the stocks of TP, mainly because they have shares in TP and want to drive the price higher again. Madness.

The thing is that this thing is only starting. Every day the fear ratchets up a bit more again. The daily mail is one of the worst offenders. But the Beeb isn't far behind.

There's a whole lot more to this story of course and we're just sniffing things out for now seeing what passes the smell test. But we are all too close. In due time we will understand more.

God forbid it isn't going to come back as a seasonal and more virile and deadly version of the flu (deadlier than H1N1). Because right now that is also potentially on the table.

We are in the dark. The darkness causes fear. Fear causes panic.

There is still a small chance as well that this will blow over and won't return in a big way when the time comes around again at the end of the year fall/winter (next flu season).

This is a flu at the end of the day. A corona virus. There are only a handful or a bit more of them that do the rounds every year. But when the buggers mutate, well.

I am hopeful for the moment. As others have noted: the panic could be worse than the not taking it seriously.

But the more seriously people take it, the greater the panic. It's not just catch-22 it's an exponential catch-22.

One thing is for sure. The world is not prepared for this.

Just after I wrote my post above: first death in the region, a 64 years old Argentinian man who came back from France.

It's when they come back from the dead is when you really need to start to worry!

(then again, I suppose France is a kind of death for some people)

A Silver bullet through the head and a sharpened crucifix through the heart should remove all doubt.

Donald Trump needs to stop talking about this and let Mike Pence do his job. Media is still going to bait though and he will bite and the frenzy will continue.

But I'm still happy to see my leader out there, even if he's wrong. Our openness and willingness to admit our own mistakes is always going to be used against us. Meanwhile China is spending time and money trying to blame everyone else. Nice.
I don’t understand the rabid journalist and twitterati response to Pence on this. Acting as the lead agency coordinator on something like this is actually the type of thing that Pence does very well by all accounts.
I dunno what the deal is with the test kits and whose head needs to roll for it, but unlike Trump Pence has been on message. Pence hasn't tried to downplay this shitstorm and has been honest about the fact that they fucked up with the roll out. If he actually comes through on those revised test kit numbers I might actually start trusting him...or at least as much as I can trust a politician. For all the "hurr durr pence is an evil aids denier" the man has been nothing if not professional.
I remember my college military history professor said that Americans were spoiled because they never had to live through war time conditions like the rest of the world during ww2, thats why our tanks are automatic instead of manual and most american armament depends on tons of hours of work before use. the idea of never having a supply chain and spare parts has never been a problem in the US.

its amazing how much shit places are out of. outside of the gas shortages from before i was born, i don't think there has ever been such a widespread thing in the US, outside of hurricanes and dumb shit like that, but even then those are pretty few and far between and the businesses can usually prepare for that shit.

Also its pretty amazing how no one follows China anymore, no one gives a fuck about their numbers. They apparently said the infections are slowing down. but i also heard someone on /x/ say the Chinese already cremated 6 million people so far this year, so who knows whats happening
Necessity is the mother of invention. There is a popular Russian show that has been airing since the early 90s called Пока все дома that had(has?) a segment on it teaching you how to make shit at home from household goods. Like making planters out of soda bottles and shit like that. Exactly the type of stuff that tends to be bought for a couple of bucks from the Chinese by Westerners with too much money. Heck I remember it being pretty normal for people to wash yogurt containers and reuse them as kids cups back in home country in the 90s. My moms friend told her we don't do that shit here in America as soon as we got off the plane.

I was telling friends about the 33 cases in NY yesterday but by the time I checked again it had jumped to 44. Around lunch I was telling people the updated numbers at 44 but when I checked again it had swelled to 76.

Edit: update on collapsed hoted.

The idiot in charge of the CDC is a total fuckup, he screwed up bad. He’s primarily to blame for the lack of test kits and lack of preparation, he’s out of his element and doesn’t know what he’s doing.

There’s also a lot of dysfunction in government now and no cohesion between various departments. It’s the perfect recipe for disaster, if there had been no crisis these cracks wouldn’t have manifested.

Pence has been doing a decent job so far, he knows his head is on the line.

Glad my parents had me in highschool. Who would've of thought unprotected teenage sex would mean I get to enjoy the apocalypse with my parents. Grandparents are already dead so that's cool don't have to worry about them. Sorry to all the kiwis who had responsible parents I'll pray for them.

Starting to hit close to home now. (:_(
Another case in the North of Ireland.

DC has its first case. It'll be announced at the upcoming press conference at 7:30 EST. Mayor Bowser tweeted about it. Not sure if the post is still up.

99% chance that this means it's also in the Northern Virginia area. So add another state to the list.

Edit: Link for the tweet. On phone and can't archive right now. Apologizes. https://mobile.twitter.com/mayorbowser/status/1236422174958895104?s=21

Some highlights:

Gov. Pete Ricketts said the woman played in a Fremont YMCA basketball game and attended VFW dinner on Wednesday night prior to coming to the hospital. The Fremont YMCA is now closed and basketball tournaments in the coming days are canceled.

So far, over 30 healthcare workers who were in contact with her have been asked to self-quarantine. The patient made five potential visits to three different healthcare sites, according to Dr. Pour.

The workers will only be tested if they come down with coronavirus symptoms.

Two coronavirus patients are out of a San Antonio hospital.A third person was released from quarantine at Lackland Air Force Base.

It's eashy to archive on mobile though

NYS is up to 89 confirmed cases =/

See I though that black bastard was a CCP Chink ass licker and just straight up taking money from the politburo when shit was popping off in China. I never even considered the fact that he might just be criminally incompetent. The fact that he sounds almost exactly like the Reverend Doctor Martin Ssempa should have tipped me off.
