I had never heard of them either until Billy started going on about them. Apparently it's some Instagram/Vlogger thing that started around 2010 and is only really a thing among the kind of social media types that are into this entire "share your entire life with the Internet" stuff.
I think gender reveals are silly but I still kinda like them. Don't get me wrong making whole party about it is over doing it but making a special cake, buying balloons or something like that is fine in my books. Most parents are eager to find out the gender, many consider it be one of the important mile stones during pregnancy and if they want to add little extra with that I see no problem.
Most (normal) people that do the gender reveal thing usually don't make a whole production out of them. It's only the attention seekers that already use the internet to powerlevel the heck out of their lives that take gender reveals to new levels of absurdity in trying to outdo the latest batch of Instagram/vlog reveal posts they've seen.
Kinda curious to know what Billy's reaction would be to learning that most people would never consider throwing a gender reveal party - instead they'd just tell people if they're having a boy or a girl.
Agreed. Most people don't even tell the whole world what the gender of their baby on the way is. At most, they tell trusted friends and family that don't mind being told in advance and do their best to keep quiet to those that prefer to be surprised and not know until the baby is born. LaBelle, however, would still find anything gender-related to be problematic if it doesn't include anything outside the cisnormative binary.
I'm getting the impression the recent custom of gender reveal parties and having more gendered clothing earlier are reactions to gender politics.
I imagine some people are more gung-ho about learning their childrens' genders for a number of reasons such as:
- They have all boys and want a girl (or vice versa),
- They prefer gender-appropriate clothing and a similarly-themed nursery instead of using neutral colors for both,
- They want gender-appropriate baby presents for their gift registry/shower.
That said, it wouldn't surprise me if certain people made a big deal out of gender reveals just to drive the SocJus crowd crazy, After all, LaBelle is like any other SJW in finding anything fun or enjoyable to be triggering or problematic in some form or another.
If anything it looks even shittier now than it's ever looked. I don't know what people are talking about.
It's funny how LaBelle successfully demanded and e-begged $3000 for a new tablet/laptop to create better artwork and pretty much everything since then looks more like a downgrade than an improvement.
People get stuck on characters, ships, and fantasies regarding the world of the book, movie, series, game etc. , but with very little discussion about the actual themes and the lessons from stories.
So much this. With today's productions, the desire to blindly consume content that is woke or otherwise ticks off enough checkboxes has become more important than the underlying story -- sometimes so much so that the production could have a bad plot or none at all and people will care more about wokeness and their favorite ships.
Specifically relating to LaBelle's artwork, the quality of it has remained awful to the point of stagnation. Also, many here that have followed LaBelle from the start have made a persuasive case the the artwork quality has worsened. However, LaBelle knows what to say that appeals to the other like-minded SJWs. Those particular people care little about visual appeal and they also overlook
Assigned Male's content that's outright cringe-worthy or creepy when taken at face value because any "good ally" is expected to be blindly devoted.
So, did some town cancel on him?
Doesn't LaBelle tend to call out those that cancel on them -- either directly or passive-aggressively -- to spin the offending parties as horrible transphobes that need to be avoided, shunned, and hate-mobbed at all costs? However, this could be one of those rare occasions where an event was canceled and LaBelle is unable to turn it into oppression points or speak out against it. Time will tell.
