Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

You're clearly talking about Manhattan, Nebraska or some shit. You're definitely not talking about NYC, otherwise we have vastly different concepts of hygiene. And I'm talking about always, not 5 years or whatever. I'm a lifelong new yorker, born in Queens and actually lived in an apartment in Confucius plaza in Chinatown off the Manhattan bridge in the late 80s so I know of what I speak.
The streets were clean of trash at the time which is more than I can say about about the UWS. Maybe it was the tourism that particular area gets but it stood out because I didn't expect it.

And now imagine my surprise. Not really surprised but people will be freaking the fuck out:
Asked about quarantines in China and Italy - where millions of people are confined to their homes - Fauci said he could not rule out similar actions in the United States.

It’s not a bad system amd we do have good disaster plans. It’s not a perfect system - there is no perfect health system. Some of the European ones do better, but it’s not bad. It’s plagued with too many managers, and structural issues that make too many people use the emergency (A&E.) but the problem is that the scale and speed of the epidemic is going to be such (if left unchecked) that We are going to see demand outstrip supply. We are going to know who needs ICU, but we don’t have enough beds. There are only so many places with mechanical ventilation capacity. Only so many beds. If the projections are right, and we see 50% of cases in a three week period , and 99% in twelve , no system in the world can cope. Hard choices will need to be made in every country that can’t flatten that peak. No matter how good their health service is.
Nowhere is going to be left unaffected. Quarantine still has a place, but it’s purpose now is to flatten that peak off. Countries like Sweden that are naively allowing doctors to waltz back into hospitals and kids to schools straight from a ski trip to Italy with no quarantine? They are fucked. Absolutely fucked. Iran? Fucked. Anywhere with few ICU beds? Fucked. Places like s Korea and Singapore who are actively tracing contacts and restricting movement will fare much better.
Countries vary hugely in their ICU capability. ECMO (basically taking your blood out, oxygenating it and putting it back in)? 15 places in the whole of the Uk. None in Scotland.
I went looking for a comparison of ICU beds by country and found this. Draw an arrow on the y axis top to bottom and that’s how fucked each country is.

death rates are going to depend on two things:
1. Ability of country to flatten infection peak
2. Number of intensive care places.

>US states/cities refuse to wait on CDC/White House giving direct orders to do shit, handle it on their own
>China will be hailed as the ones who handled this properly despite suppressing info and CCP dragging their feet to give orders for literal months
called it

also the dicksucking of china on twitter and elsewhere is just confirming my insane ideas that people have already subconsciously accepted china as the new zerg overlord power. USA will be generally viewed same as USSR was by west in 10 years. praise be xi.

Haven't heard about Iran lately. Tl'dr the corpses are piling up and the health care system is collapsing, no surprise there. A few highlights from that Ali dude (Mar 8 thread 1 | archive; thread 2 | archive) (Mar 7 thread | archive)

Oregon cases up to 14, including a middle school student. State of emergency declared.

The zoomers are a bunch of toddlers and teens at this point. Let them mature and ripen.

I am a Gen X-er. Most of us are highly aware of how much everything sucks and those who haven't Cobained it by now, are pretty much resigned to this fact.

The Boomers are the ones who get butt-hurt when things don't work like they think they should.

All the more reason to fear that they will just assume that they are safe, because there is always a hospital bed in every ICU, reserved just for them. Of course they will beat the triage, and get the most skilled doctors. They always did before. Roads will remain open, sick people will self-quarantine because that is the "right thing to do" and attending health personnel will not fall ill themselves. The ones with money will think that this is a social strata thing, and that those old people on the other side of the tracks will be more susceptible, simply because over the last 7 decades, they have been shuttled away from most social ills that surround them.

Sorry, just sharing what I know, based on the Boomers and Silents who raised me and some of my friends. Not all Boomers. Just white middle and upper-class ones. They escaped the draft, after all. Not to be cynical, but as far as facing a public health emergency with humility and grace, hopefully it won't be to late for some of these people.
We are going to agree to disagree as we have different upbringings. I will say that you are somewhat correct about some boomers being ignorant in so many things, but ignorance is getting real rampant. And what you deem as a boomer is a Gen X instead as a good chunk of them are in their mid 50's now.

Which brings this up.

My take: Kind of proves my point on what age groups are acting ape shit crazy. Does it.

How will oil prices falling harm only the United States? Russia has many of their eggs in the oil basket, they would be damaged much more by the very same thing. Why would they do this to themselves? America's economy is diversified, Russia's is not.

If this is some sort of play to kneecap American oil it seems foolish to fire the shot through your own chest first.

You know the saddest thing about this thread, outside of the deaths of people from this, is knowing how amazing the world could be if our governments actually had common sense and worked as a unit instead of fighting over mundane shit.

Imagining where humanity could be if we reacted swiftly and effectively to a threat like this. Yet here we are with bureaucratic bullshit slowing responses and risking lives completely unnecessarily. 😔

Make a Pandemic Preppers Survival Mask at home! Salt encrusted center filter may stop some germs!

My Take: This guy is a quasi Nutcase. But there is some foundation to his insanity which is why this is for information purposes only. I do have a sub on him due to his older videos which were interesting to say the least. I think he is jumping on the Corona lap dance ban wagon for subscribes. It's not a bad idea but my concerns that people what take this a gospel and feel that they will be safe and they will not be. It is better than nothing but still. You can see my concern.

What is the most important information that you need to know is that you only need a minimum of a T shirt to protect you from the vapors of someone coughing at you. The as soon as possible get rid of it when the possible danger is away from you. The next information was also found at this site as well which is very good info to go.

It's not happening. The disease has already spread further than otherwise would occur because the US occupational government is engaging in economic warfare (sanctions on financial transactions and medical supplies) against enemies of their masters.

Meanwhile, China has everything under control with authoritarian hard quarantines. They're more likely to suffer outbreaks from letting foreigners in than internal travel.

Germany and France are both up over 1000 now, they were only in the 600s on Friday. The worst part is that on a per person level, places like Norway and Switzerland are even worse off. They just have smaller total populations so their 200+ infections look less bad on paper.

Its who can take the most pain, shale has a higher production cost then normal oil so it needs higher prices to stay viable.

I think you misinterpreted my post. Obviously it's not happening, I was waxing poetic on what we could be if we worked together instead of this half assessed response across multiple fronts until people have died from it and they have no other choice. It's too late now when it's already widespread, just becomes about mitigating the damage and managing those who're sick.

Does China though? are you sure about that?
