This little gem just popped up on my twatter feed.

Look, concessions need to be made. Have confidence that what you're saying makes sense to the viewer instead of changing context. In No Game No Life (rip) theres a word game between two characters. One person says a word, and the next person must say another word that starts with the same letter as the last letter used in the previous word without ever repeating any words. In the dub, the game doesnt actually work, one character will say something like chocolate and the other responds with something illegal like banana. It's a language barrier problem, the game makes perfect sense in japanese and there is no fluent way to properly translate the scene. Personally I think the translators went with the best option of just translating the words and ignoring that illegal moves were being made instead of trying to change the rules or words used to work.

If a translators "only" way to translate a scene is to completely rewrite the context or outright translate wrong (even as a kid I know those were fucking jelly donuts, dont treat me like a xenophobic retard), you need to try again or change jobs.

Writing out Japanese culture entirely isn't the most appropriate way to localize a dub. Not all people are that stupid and have the capability to understand what different cultural references could mean. When they do write it out, people tend to catch on eventually that a translation is not making sense. There are instances where translation is more challenging... like puns. But for the most part, you can stay pretty faithful without words being changed too much. Japanese culture and themes are a heavy topic in a lot of anime and I have learned quite a bit from shows like that. You don't have to Westernize it completely to make it an enjoyable experience.

The early localization of anime wrote out a lot of Japanese culture because they wanted to target children and felt like they wouldn't understand the references to Japanese culture. It just led to some funny jokes in the future. Sometimes writing out the culture too much makes the show even more confusing. Especially nowadays that more people are aware of what anime is and the Japanese things it could bring. Anime is part of a cultural exchange, so I feel it is best to keep the culture in it.

As for Funimation and Crunchyroll... There has been hate for them for quite some time. It's not all about politics or the way Vic has been treated either. It has been the way they handled their companies over the years.

For Chrunchyroll, consumers expect that their money is going to help the creators make better content they love so much. They expect that money will improve things like website structure or a better, faster, efficient video player... But when Crunchyroll comes out and says they will use that money to create an original cartoon no one asked for... of course people are going to get mad. Learning that they don't support or treat the translators well makes the consumers fuming. Of course the icing on the cake is when Crunchyoll decided to pour forth dollars into a fancier office. People were stock raving mad. They are paying to improve the service to make it a more enjoyable experience for the consumer... not a more enjoyable experience for the CEOs ass.

For Funi, they continue to treat their fan base like trash. Any time they come out with some kind of big bluray boxset... It is just subpar at best. People were paying for a quality they expected out of Funimation and they just aren't delivering anymore. It is simple as that. I used to like Funimation, but it has gone downhill in recent years. They used to treat the source material with more respect, but the respect they used to have seems to have disappeared. These are also big reasons that people are dropping these companies like a steaming pile of shit.

They act like this and dare to judge Vic for banging groupies?

I'll tell you what it is, Vic didn't join in on this crap. He was doing his own thing instead of being in the club and that's what the problem always was.
The sad irony is that none of us would even give a shit if many of these people didn’t fire Vic over a stupid jellybean and then smear him as a sexual deviant. Granted, it’s still a gross video but people act stupid all the time. That’s just the reality. But Vic touching Jamie’s hair is sexual misconduct but not this? Give me a fucking break.

Problems like this are not solved by having a character suddenly start screaming about Gamergate or the patriarchy for no reason.

I’ve had a feeling Toei wouldn’t get in because the Yen wasn’t directly affected by anything happening on this side of the Pacific. Also, I’m just 1. How little of a fuck they give about this whole situation since people are saying they’re actually putting the squeeze on TFS and 2. What’s actually needing to happen for Toei (or any corporate overlords) to step in.
Ok, so Toei are angry at TFS playing around with their IP but when FUNI does it on an even worse level they don't care.

How fucking daft are Toei actually?!

I think the merger was to appease Toei.

Funimation wanted to hire Vic as a director.
Vic moved to Dallas.
KickVic fired him to protect the culture at Funimations.

That implies long term plans instead of "we are getting mergered in 9 months."

Sony had 3 options when the leaks happened.
1. Ignore them. Toei would pull their license which would render Funimation a boat anchor on their balance sheet while showing creators Sony doesn't respect them.

2. Fire everyone at Funimation. This would create a Streissand effect confirming the rumors. Also that Sony doesn't keep an eye on what is going on in their companies. Then you have to replace everyone there.

3. Add Funimation to the merger. Toei gets to scream at Funimation. Sony gets to fire everyone and claim that "it has been handled." They force Fukunaga and Sabat to slaughter their Cash cow. Investors think that Sony is simply consolidating companies. Monica and Jamie can't scream that "Sony is abandoning us!"

The merger was the best approach.

They almost have a duty to go after TFS to protect their IP. TFS didn't help themselves. They crossed the line from fair use into attempting to profit a way back. Aren't they faggy for Sabat?

Sabat was protecting them in one form or another from Toei.

Welp, Weebstein noticed

No point in cleaning up the comments now VoiceOfVegeta lmao
We have the screenshots archived already so I don't see what the point in him doing that is. All it's doing is showing that he's trying to hide something and desperately I might add.
That's a sure fire way to get curious people to dig further, by trying to hide your tracks. I see they are still wholly ignorant of the Streisand Effect. It didn't work for Zoe Quinn and it won't work for this chucklefuck.

And what still kills me is...
We keep finding all this EVIDENCE of their scummy behavior, and hypocrisy extending for more than a decade.
And they cant show any evidence of their claims.

And Chris... If this is just what a bunch of scummy internet nerds like us can dig up...
What has Nick received from the staff around you who are providing info to him?
What have you forgotten about?
What additional evidence have you left lying around?

We cant wait to see!

The hilarious thing about it is since it's archived here, people know to come here and poke around. In doing so finding even more crap on them. Hell it's why I ended up making an account.

His other 2 videos have the comment section up. It's not like anyone called him out on the slow tron video.
At this point it's already clear that his sycophants are cruising around here watching us and what we say. I'm not surprised that even though no one outside of here called it out yet, that someone told him that we found it and in a desperate bid to try and save face because he knew it would get out eventually is to start deleting comments.

But by doing that, he's just implicating himself further. He really doesn't want to get sued. The dude is scared and paranoid.
