Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Just spoke to my niece who lives in Eastern Washington State. She started feeling very poorly while at work, went to an Urgent Care Center. Dr there told her she had pneumonia, gave her a Z-Pack and 2 whole days off work. No chest X-ray, no swab to check for Strain A, B or Corona. She saw her primary Dr the next day. He said it was probably "just the flu." but gave her the rest of the week off. Once again, no chest X-ray, no swab for any strain of flu. My niece is 26 and other than vaping (grrrr) is healthy.
Take this kind of medical negligence that clocks in at about a 7/10 and dial that shit up to 9/10, that's the military medical care standard and it's a big part of why people (including me) are about to start dropping the fuck dead here on Travis AFB. I don't just empathize with your niece, I sympathize with her. I'm glad she doesn't have shot lungs, but goddamn she needs to stop vaping.

On a related note; I fucking called it IRL again. I have not been exaggerating this whole time I've been using the word "dump" in regards to infected and exposed people getting dumped here.

1:35 p.m. Grand Princess passenger calls Travis AFB quarantine a “travesty”: Neil Kran, who disembarked yesterday from the Grand Princess and is quarantined at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, told The Chronicle he and his wife are running out of prescription medicines and having trouble getting a refill. Kran said they were not provided basic toiletry items. Instead, officials recommended they “use Amazon” to order products, he said in a text message. “They made no provision for basics ... perhaps overwhelmed by volume of folks running out of essential meds.” The 69-year-old Sausalito resident’s temperature was taken this morning,he said, but otherwise no other medical treatment or testing was offered. “This is going to be a difficult and painful stay,” Kran said. “No one seems to be in charge.”

In that you're wrong. Swansea's in the top 10 of engineering unis in the UK, and usually uttered in the same breath as the Uni of Warwick, who recently began specialising in transport solutions, while Swansea specialises in Energy Safety. It also has one of the larger health care college departments in Wales and is likely already on the frontline for .

Obviously the top two are the Oxbridge Unis, but they get their sticky fingers into everything.

Swansea is a niche university, to my limited understanding.

I don't know why it started leading the field in Aerospace, but I'd assume it was because of Metallurgy. As I said, there is a rich history in this part of the world. This is an area that supplied a third of the world's coal in the industrial revolution. They were like the arabs till the oil ran out.

Then there are major plants like British Steel, ironically enough which has just seen its recent change of hands go to a fucking Chinese company! Go figure.

One of the reasons it became such a world power-house in metals and all that goes with that is because they had the very fuel on hand to work it at the temperatures needed. High quality anthracite and coke. Man! Not just any old shit. Anyway, it was right next door to where they were digging the metals out of the ground. Smelting, just like modern day alchemists. And this goes back to the 18th Century.

So yeah, probably that had something to do with them getting good in engineering for aeroplanes. A lot of the body of an aeroplane is Aluminium, or Aluminum as you dumb yanks say. Lightweight, strong.

I also grew up in another part of the world very far away where that was a major natural resource, but I've power-leveled far too much as a noob to start with. Sorry 'bout that.

At the moment there is a big battle going on to turn the massive bay there (one of the biggest tidal power resources in the world) in to a massive hydro-electric power plant. But it's been plagued by false promises and investments that never materialised. Damn, I suppose the chinks are involved in that as well!

Whatever the chinks are studying in Swansea, they weren't really studying it 20 years ago. Nor was anyone else. There was racial homogeneity. I should know, my good friend at the time graduated as a medical doctor, and his father came not far from where I grew up, many many miles away. Not white.

Whatever. Sorry for going off topic. Point being, the world is getting smaller. Argue the small details all you want. Everyone is coming in from everywhere else (whatever reason they are coming in for). And this is why we find ourselves in the mess we are in today. I've nothing against freedom of movement. Or Chinks, or Niggers.

But a little common sense to balance things out before we go all 'exotic' is just asking a little too much it would seem.

The world has been caught with its pants down.

And the politicians have been caught with their dicks in their hands.

We've all been there.

who the fuck lets rats infest their house? and put your rice in a closed container. what are we, animals?
Nigga have you ever lived in a city? Rats are smart and endemic in cities, as are mice. You can be the smartest and cleanest person to the point of autism and they will outsmart you. This is why I have cats and while you think they'd stay away from an apartment with four cats they don't. That said there are things you can do and I have humane traps strategically place in my home. I also plug any holes with steel wool. I don't leave food out and clean my cabinets at least once a month.

I'm a person who has had rats and mice as pets (they'll snack on grains, seeds and nuts) but wild rodents carry disease and I am absolutely petrified of contracting hantavirus from them (I mop with a bleach solution as soon as I even get a hint they've been in my apartment). Also bugs in grains/flour result from microscopic eggs of flour beetles from the mill which is why you freeze/refrigerate them for a few days to kill them, otherwise warm weather will trigger them to hatch.

Newest craze where I work (severe mental illness) is one of the clients decided the government caused this to kull the population and spread it around. Now have a bunch of mentally ill people who won't follow basic hygeine to thwart the government who will probably cause an epidemic in the clinic if one gets sick with it.

but goddamn she needs to stop vaping.
Right?? I've seen plenty of warnings to people who smoke cigarettes, but I know a bunch of 20 somethings who vape like fiends, thinking that it is healthier than cigs. IT IS NOT. Clinics have been seeing plenty of kids with severe respiratory compromise from vaping. Scarier still is a lot of the vape juice was coming from China and india. Who knows what the hell else is in that juice.
Sounds like a right horror show at Travis. Sending hugs elbow bumps to ya.

If I didn't post this clip, someone very special to me would be very disappointed.

In UK news, 2 more dead. Both within the Midlands, Dudley and Warwickshire. Both elderly, both with underlying conditions. WHO now demanding "aggressive action" and may finally say "oh yeah, this is a pandemic. Whoops, lol. Sorry." as more Chinese yen spill from their fucking pockets.

I can't resist it.

I just have to.

I met the guy who wrote Twin Town in a hotel around the area of the Uplands that did 'afters'. And the guy who wrote that was there getting pissed and holding court. All good fun.

But the weird part was the guy who owned the hotel was a mad Austrian Chef whose daughter was doing security on the door. She was pretty tall. Same height as me. She liked her drink as did her Dad.

The really weird part though was our Austrian connection, and not just that, she happened to have grown up in the same Middle Eastern country as me as well. The odds of that are fucking astronomical. So we formed a bond. Even though we didn't particularly like each other. But then again, we did.

We ended up getting wrecked and she hired a hotel room for us to sleep in, but nothing happened. I didn't want to be that guy. We had a few more drinks and passed out.

The hotel used to keep rocking till 5am in the morning. Fun times. Only went there once or twice. No chinkys.

We managed to sneak out on to the Kingsway where a bar called 'Shades' used to be. Swansea proles getting hammered. Sad.

But yeah it's a pretty shitty city right now, more than it used to be. And it's not getting better in our lifetimes.

Sorry for the shameless OT.

Sometimes I just can't help myself.

Time to STFU.

I think a lot of kiwis are forgetting that we have a vaccine for the flu. And while the effectiveness of that vaccine isn't perfect, it at least provides a sense of security to people.

We indeed have a vaccine. Get my shot every year. But many people don't get vaccinated. You can only have a sense of security about the flu if you are vaccinated.

So, just a question as someone who likes finance and works with various shopping malls in marketing and such. Right now they're laying low as they've lost all business (because no one goes out shopping and only they buy prepping stuff). These things are usually related to cleaning (disinfectant and such) as well as food and such.

But what do people buy once everything calms down? For example post-pandemic in a few months. I can't find anything on this because all results are on the current shopping surge. But I imagine tons of people must start shopping a ton just out of relief, like tech or other things they held back on during the scare? Anyone has any data or knowledge on this.

Update on Sweden:
They are now stopping all testing in Stockholm unless you're in the hospital (basically, you're dying). They gave no reason for this but my assumption is:
1. They're running out of resources.
2. They want to lower the statistics.

We've now had our first death, an old person. They are now also banning larger gatherings.

Helpful graph being passed around here. This is the symptomatic differences between wuhan flu, regular flu and a cold. I've had family members check the graph and proclaim it's wrong because "a cold can have many of those other symptoms like fever, diarrhea and snot"... so yeah, that explains a lot about how diseases go unchecked and reinforces my belief than this shit's still spread by people who got no idea it's not a cold/flu despite symptomatic difference because they just don't give a fuck.

In a bit of a dilemma right now. Received an e-mail about my uni switching to online classes for two weeks and recommending students to go home starting this coming Sunday, yet it also states that my workplace (and others on campus) will remain open for the time being. 10/10 priorities right there.

Like @JosephStalin, I also am still not clear why Covid-19 is such a big deal compared to the seasonal flu. Is it because there is no vaccine yet?

Also, is there anywhere that is doing a proper comparison of this season's flu statistics and the Covid?

edit - I'm not trying to be a "nothingburger" smart-ass, I'm genuinely ignorant about this stuff and need illumination.

Cuomo announced that CUNY and SUNY schools will move to "remote learning" aka online teaching on March 19th. CUNY took it a step further and will be closed from March 12-19th to give professors a chance to change their entire curriculum. Meanwhile the National Guard has now set up shop and is quarantining all of the Jews in New Rochelle. Curious as to when martial law will be enforced in NYC, surely not in my lifetime right?

CUNY announcement here, we are not allowed to post full articles anymore, correct? I really feel like things have only begun to kick off in NY.

I was merely musing and waxing philosophical.

But even if you are rich you can still be ill, even if it's mild. But on your wider points I agree. Well lived in bodies. Just like mine. Dope fiend for decades. Too much drink. Thankfully I've been pretty clean and serene the last decade. Gotta calm the fuck down sometime. I'd love to be able to hit it like I used to, but you know...

Hopefully it won't hit the homeless. Not in street-shitting San Fran anyway, places like that.

And hopefully it does not hit lawless places like certain parts of Chicongo. Really, there are so many variables that no one has considered them all yet.

I also agree with your point on narcs. My parents are narcs. They've been on deaths door for years but just will not give it up. I spoke with them yesterday. They are fine. They aren't bothered. They are going out in a blaze of glory come what may. The fuckers will survive this before I do. They feed on sheer spite, and the devil looks after his own.

Anyway, we never get the cull we want. There is no magic or silver bullet. But perhaps a rebalancing in favour of good human practices and what is important, would be in order. Probably won't get that either.

My girlfriend who was black * had pretty bad TB and it took her six months to beat it. I didn't think anything of sleeping next to her every night as she poured sweat on to the bed sheets. I was young and invincible. And I was. I never got TB. No one I have ever been in contact with has ever had TB since (so I know I'm not spreading it).

* Black people have higher incidence of TB.

The human body is holier than any Temple. Not even doctors know how it works, though they have a pretty good idea. They are still in the dark.

And the idea that this thing is a race-specific bio-weapon is also laughable. That day is a long way off just like true AI.

Some people will get it and survive, other people will get it and die or become seriously ill for the rest of their life, some will get it and just be dandy afterwards. Too early to say. Too many mutations to go.

But your rich people might still get it. Though, you know what. I wouldn't wish it on them. Even the greedy fuckers. There's only so much space in hell, and I'd like to think those spots are reserved for the truly evil, not just those that gamed an already corrupt system.

Too much waxing philosophical. Excuse me. I'll stop shitting up the thread now. Nothing more to add.

Black people don't seem to be getting it. Last time I looked Africa seems pretty corona-free. Black people can be some tough bastards when they want to be.

As for the aging and should-be-deceased-already-narcissists - they are the reasons why many of the GenX-ers have bronchial tubes that look more like industrial chimneys, nervous systems that work more like hypersensitized smoke detectors, and lovely self-consuming conditions like Lupus.

Well, shit then, given that they are going to beat us at this game, like they have at every other, I guess I will see you on the other side. Maybe we can shit up purgatory where the rivers of autistic flow deep, fast and wide ... Maybe we have assigned seating in hell across from one another ....

In all seriousness, the homeless have a lot of health problems in general. And the "worst" of them lack self-help and self-care skills to not become disease vectors themselves. And the less helpless among them still get exposed to their illnesses like TB. They live in crowded, stressful and unhygenic conditions.

Not to scare monger but when their body count adds up, somebody is going to have to ID them, refrigerate them, contact next of kin, and eventually take charge of disposition of the remains. And in cities like LA and Miami, that is no small task, especially when the body count leads to systemic overload.

Alright! I kind of wanted to wait a little bit before publicizing this, but this thread is moving at like 2 pages an hour at this point, and 'catching up' is a fucking pipe dream. So here it is, the (work in progress!) coronavirus megathread archive:
Most of the more recent stuff has been from @Ellesse_warrior (so props to her!), while @Token Weeaboo and I have been doing sorting/archiving of the older stuff in the background. Not sure how useful it is currently at the moment, but the hope is that pretty soon it'll be helpfully sorted with links to all posts, sources and archives for everything, and helpful tl;drs for each day too so that people can more easily filter through for all of the informative stuff that people have been putting in this thread.

Dude, you're implying that someone should really take advice from a faceless internet collective of autists who'se favorite pastime is mocking other autists? Not only that, but from a thread that is over 680 pages long, completely disordered and growing so fast that it might be the first thing known to mankind to break the speed of light -limit? Go fuck yourself, only reason why I'm reading this thread is because it's funny to see you people lose your shit.
Not to pile on! But actually part of the reason I enjoy this thread so much, and what motivated me to make the post indexes, was that there really is a lot of informative stuff here. For a "faceless collective of autists" we have some pretty diverse and useful talents here in this thread, including at least two people who work in virology or adjacent fields (@Otterly and @Secret Asshole), someone in the know/translating and keeping us up to date on Chinese news/social media sperging (@AltisticRight), a similar Spanish news translator/local (@EmuWarsVeteran), the survival expert himself (@Jet Fuel Johnny), and others that I'm sure I'm forgetting who have useful domain-specific knowledge/information aggregating talents that they've contributed (too many for me to name off the top of my head, but I would be absolutely remiss if I didn't mention the awesome work @LetThemEatCake, @Glad I couldn't help, @pull over dat ass too fat, @JosephStalin, @Ivan Shatov, @Rei is shit, @Computer Boy and @HTTP Error 404 have been doing since this thread's genesis back 700 pages but only 2 months ago).

There really is a lot of awesome stuff in this thread, both in terms of the actual coronavirus developments in each country, and also the MSM and social media sperging/censoring that's going on.

On that note, a word on archiving: remember to archive the Twitter stuff, too! Here's an apt example (sorry to pick on you for a bit, @Hackallier!)
archiveeverything.png

'Twitter account suspended', which I'm totes positive has nothing to do with the embarrassing stuff the guy was dishing on China and their piss-poor response to the early developments in Wuhan.
Luckily it was already archived in the wayback machine here:
Remember to archive everything, even the Twitter takes!
