Milton Friedman was an advocate for UBI, it has a lot of advantages over unemployment/ out of work benefits, it is supposed to be universal so if you are the CEO on 10 million you get it and if you are on min wage making coffees you get it. It would make it worth working financially, especially for those that fall in the make no more money in work or out of work types. It would allow people to take a crap job if they so desire and they don't feel like they are working for nothing, it should incentivise work far more than the current UK system as people would have more brass in their pocket by doing a shift flipping burgers. There's a certain utility curve, in that if it isn't enough, it doesn't even serve its purpose, but if it's too much, it discourages gainful activity. It's sort of similar to the Laffer curve concept, where if you keep raising taxes, revenues actually decrease because you're punishing the activity that generates them in the first place.
