Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Just heard something today that rankled.

Relative works in a office owned by a company with three main bosses. This trio went on a fancy blokey ski holiday last week to one of the affected countries on the contient that borders Italy. Have now returned and whole office is edging around them, worried they';re carrying the Wu Flu.

One of the three has a severely, really fucked-up disabled son with all kind of physical conditions on top of mental disability. The kind of kid who will be basically fucked up severely, possibly to death by pneumonia. Kid wasn't taken on holiday (god forbid), but this guy seems oblivious to, or simply uncaring that if he picked up the new virus on his precious ski holiday, he will probably pass it onto his long-suffering wife who is his son's main caregiver, and his own son could die from it.

I find it hard to wrap my head around the abject prickishness, obliviousness and selfishness of some people. Imagine risking your family's lives so you can fuck about on a ski slope with your work buddies. It is however confirming my view that persons who take fancy winter ski breaks are generally exceptional cunts.
Hold on. Pump the brakes.
So the guy is supposed to stay in his home forever because of his disabled son? Not cutting yourself off from society and generally going about your life if someone in your life is immunocompromised is selfish? All because the guy took a vacation in the same NATION as the coronavirus?

Why are people buying stuff from this guy??

Isn't deceit a sin?

lol'd

also:
archive.li is down so i can't archive it for you *sigh*
Internet Archive to the rescue!
Archive of the PDF download. Might put this on a usb stick just in case.
West Virginia, are you hiding something? Corona-chan wants to walk the country roads.
since a lot of posters on here are students, amphetamines are a very useful non-treatment drug to stockpile for survival scenarios. it sounds weird, and might not be something that comes to mind for a situation like this, but look no further than the various borderline superhuman feats of survival performed during WWII on all sides, under the influence of amphetamine. if you have an adderall precription it might be a good idea to hoarde them until things either blow over or get bad.
Thanks to abusers of prescription stimulants, people who actually need them couldn't hoard them if they wanted to. If you're using them for ADHD, you take your dose daily.

Pharmacies typically only give a month's supply in my state. Can't get a refill until the bottle is at least 90% empty. Good luck stocking up on that legally.
Using the Holy Bible as toilet paper?

Sorry, that is a bit much.
Enjoy the legend of the Bible Wiper

Today I went to the hairdresser. I was early so I waited 20 mins plus another 10 as she went over her earlier appointment time. So half an hour. Everyone talking about the virus and how they are prepared. Hairdressers touching clients hands, grabbing bottles, giving them to customers. customer paying by credit card, touching the card reader, grabbing pens to sign the receipt. Then after touching their face and hair giving thanks for the job well done. In all over 6 staff came to the reception area and about 10 customers. Touching this and that and bragging they are ready.

Big bottle of hand sanitation sitting there. Not one staff member, not one customer touched it.
Every time I go to a store and get in the checkout line, I have to ask the cashier to use hand sanitizer & they always act put out by it & ask stupid
Now, if people saw the National Guard rolling in to make sure water supplies remain operational and clean, clear roadways, whatever, people would just plain fucking freak out.
That's because people have been conditioned to believe that government assistance in times of tragedy is a predatory move for the government to roll in with tanks and start putting people in a giant, free range prison. FEMA death camps, anyone?

That's a hyperbolic take.

No, he's not supposed to stay at home forever. But right now? This past month? When we have a NEW virus with no vaccine (presumably son gets all the vaccines he can generally including the normal flu vaccine) and no herd immunity, it's mch more risky than usual for the people who live in close quarters with him to go gallivanting in a place bordering a country with 1000 currently dead and rising, with an open border (at the point they were there) with that country. Not to mention the numbers of people who have already brought the virus back to the UK from their bloody ski holidays.

Right now I know plenty of people who are taking precautions out of the ordinary, cancelling their planned fun (as well as having it cancelled for them), because they have elderly parents they'd like to hang around a few more years at least, or immune-impaired spouses, or siblings, or whatever. It's an uncommon situation to have a brand-new virus out there making the rounds and thus requires a bit more care than usual. The situation won't last, so it's hardly asking the impossible of someone to temporarily show a little bit of care for those they live with who are in the vulnerable category.

If and when there's a vaccine for this shit, and when it burns itself out to the point whole countries aren't in lockdown, we can all go back to farting around abroad for fun. But right now? Fuck that shit if you have people close to you the virus will happily kill.

Washington currently has a working case fatality rate of 96.875% with 31 dead and 1 recovered. Granted this is expected to drop once more cases resolve, and CFR is not accurate until the pandemic is over (hence why i specify working, before anyone ackshually's me.)

Still a better metric to go on than the armchair epidemiologists who think mortality is calculated by dead divided by total infections 🤡

The worst plague?

Nothing that takes out the elderly and sick.

It would be one that takes out people under the age of 20, with strong immune systems, and comes in waves. Something that acts on strong immune systems, turns the immune system against the host, has a long incubation period and is contagious during said period. It would mutate annually like the influenza virus.

You take out an entire generation of young people, we are doomed to extinction.

I shouldn't be posting this shit, lest somebody wants to engineer a perfect bloodless killing machine.

Anyway, the wu-flu is a nuisance that is going to cost a lot of money, waste a lot of time, and kill a lot of people but it is not end-times, for those who believe in such a thing.

Considering we survived WWI, Spanish Flu, then WWII. To quote 'life finds a way' even if that way has some major age discrepancy because it wasn't a bunch of old people who died in these three major events.

Got a friend in New York. His friend who has a nurse as a sister. She said they are seeing lung damage in teens and adults.

This needs to stop. Across all forms of social media it. Needs. To. Stop. The whole my Aunt/Uncle/Friend/15th Cousin twice removed is in health care and is seeing ____________. Unless we're getting a peer reviewed paper on it that's backed up and scientifically provable it's all anecdotal and all it does is cause more fear especially when it's written in such a way. You also can't speak for how many of those patients possibly having pre-existing lung damage that is only worsened because they smoke or vape.

You are going to see lung damage because it's a respiratory disease. Even in mild or moderate causes that's likely. Even more so if they get fairly sick and in early stages of pneumonia. That's what it does, that's it's area of attack.

Just got back from doing instacart orders people are mass panic buying had so many mega orders shits unreal the stores in this part of the corn fields are getting hit

Today's public outing update: tl;dr don't go in public, shit is fucked

Had to run to get a few items from the pharmacy and some food shit. Almost 8 at night and the place was the most packed I've ever seen a grocery store. Lines going well into every aisle, literally no grocery carts left, paper goods aisle completely whiped (lol).

Price gouging is hitting amazon hard with face masks too. Get one now while you can

Watching the hype the last 24 hours has been an interesting day off of work for me. If anything I would not get paranoid and go full ape mode over this. Best thing to be is informed and have a plan in case you end up getting sick. Rations are great, many of the kiwis on here I would have to say hit this one out of the park for as long as we have known this is coming. I think that the hype will obviously escalate, especially when shit continues to go on quarantine mode, but realistically this virus has already been transmitting itself for the last couple of months in China, and obviously globally. The typical manner the sheeple act in is obviously wait till the last minute like any exceptional individual that get's doxxed and tries to BUY UP FUCKING EVERYTHING. Vast majority of people are going to survive, but boomers are pretty well dog fucked at this point especially with their cringe as q-anon theories. Not all old people are going to die, not everyone inflected will end up like Vader at the end of the illness, breathing through a tube and shitting in a bag.

I would have to say the best course of action is restrict mobility internationally for at least the next month to manage the rate of transmission. Also be responsible citizens and try not to make each other sick, this goes not only for the bio-weapon disease, but for any of these type of illnesses that emerge. I wouldn't suggest cut the supply chains off, but people are pretty fucking ignorant for depleting things like toilet paper, PPE, santizer, and other goods the last minute. The anecdotal evidence I'll leave up to conjecture at this point, and trust my best judgement on prevention for my community , family, and myself. There are a large amount of people that obviously have never learned how to sanitize properly, let alone be clean, washing your fucking hands does go a long way with these type of viral infections. Call in advance before seeing your physician if symptoms become unmanageable, STAY INSIDE IF YOU ARE INFECTED, and finally wash your penis.
