This could be bullshit, but here it is anyway.

My uncle's wife's friends' sister is a nurse, and the Day of the Pillow has begun!

Yeah I can't rely on any random person on twitter, we are at the stage of hysteria where people will make up shit just to prove their sides point on either, It's just the flu or It's the end of the world people.

No, it demonstrably isn't everyone. Not in China, not anywhere. It will kill people with impaired lungs already and those with underlying medical conditions - the people we refer to as 'vulnerable'. Most other people who are generally healthy, not already at the end of life and not in vulnerable groups who contract it will recover without medical treatment. That should be clear by now.

The point of all this lockdown business, flight restrictions and large vent cancellations is that those who contract it who can throw it off will inevitably pass it on to others, including those who cannot, and who will require intensive care beds for weeks to have even a small chance at recovery.
I'm aware of how disease spreads. Thank you.

Here's the deal. Most people routinely interact with someone in a vulnerable group. Underlying medical conditions, the elderly, the immunocompromised, they are not super rare people in society. Very few of us do not have regular interactions with those people at all. Your mom, a kindly neighbor, someone at church, one of your kids friends, etc. Everyone has at least one connection like this.

Managing risk is the important thing here. Unless you are advocating a widespread lockdown where we all limit societal interactions to the bare minimum, the attempt at containment to one geographic area is going to be ineffective. Nobody in government is crazy (and authoritarian) enough to pull that shit except the PRC anyways. The rest of us are avoiding large gatherings and washing our hands and hoping for the best. Like those folks at that ski chalet in the Alps. You aren't running any more of a risk there than back at home, the cat is out of the bag. The risk is not excessive nor is the situation eminently dangerous. It's alpine skiing, not shooting heroin with dirty needles under a bridge in the middle of the Boston Marathon.

General status in my little patch of the state: stores started to see runs on the familiar items today. Workers at a local phone/electronic repair outlet seem well-informed about this thing. Their supply lines got hit a long time ago and they got curious.

I've spoken with some people who do stenography/videography for things like depositions and court proceedings; they didn't have this on their radar at all until a sudden wave of cancellations and postponements started screwing with the pocketbooks.

Myself and nearby family are about as ready as we're gonna get. Word of advice from hurricane country: keep any street-facing parts of your residence looking as nice as you can manage. Get a vehicle cover for your car, or find some way to keep it out of plain view from the street. There's always that first idiot who gets it in his head to try looting, and you don't want your place to look like an easy target.

That's part of the big problem. Only a few decades moving the National Guard out was more the government saying: "Damn, this flood/volcano/hurricane/disease/forest fire is fucking ruining your community! We're bringing in the Guard! We'll be helping establishing power, water, medical, getting the roads cleared, doing food drops, going door to door to check on people! Don't worry, we're here to help!"

Now, if people saw the National Guard rolling in to make sure water supplies remain operational and clean, clear roadways, whatever, people would just plain fucking freak out.

People have become SO FUCKING ENTITLED about everything. Every-fucking-thing.

powerlevel: A relative of mine lives near a casino, there are often floods in the area. I have seen people get out, in knee deep water, to move a barricade, then drive through, then hit the dip where suddenly the water's halfway up their windows, then TRY TO SUE THE COUNTY for not enabling them to get to the casino. My relative has been sued for trying to warn people off before the County puts up the blocks, they threaten him or just gun the engine and go by him, and end up with water over the hood of their car. Because, goddamn it, they're ENTITLED to that casino, and fuck you mother nature for trying to stop them and why didn't the government stop them and why didn't my relative do SAR to help them before they got wet and why won't he carry them out of the water?

It's constant. It's in everything. People have become so goddamn spoiled and entitled and just goddamn selfish out the ass.

And it's just making it worse.

Want to know what's making me flinch to think about?

When Corona-Chan decides to go to that club down in the Black Community. Like we saw with that fucking basketball player, they won't take shit serious until motherfuckers start dying, then... holy shit, if you've EVER worked with The Black Community in a medical or professional office situation, you'll know that they blow everyone else out of the water with entitlement.

If she decides to go slumming and starts twerking down at Jamal's Ghetto Revue, then shit's "gunna be lit, yo" as they fucking lose their collective shit.

Worse, what happens if the cops have to start really looking at where they're going to patrol because so many officers have called in sick. It's long been said that if the cops and white people REALLY hated black people, we'd just pull out the cops. What's going to happen then?

Buckle up, boyos. Corona-Chan's at the clubs. From that high end one where MC Stank Ass is rubbing 'hunna dollah bills' on her to the shitty one down by that truck stop off the Interstate. She's got on her tube-top and booty shorts and is inviting everyone to do shots off her sweaty belly.

'Cause it looks like she's just waiting for her ball-gown to get done.

Joke: How did God make Italians? Threw a piece of shit on the ground. "Wop!"

funny you should mention that.

Due to the coronavirus, some local law enforcement agencies say they will no longer respond to non-emergency calls in person but instead will just take reports online or by phone.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office and Delano Police Department said deputies and officers will still respond to life-threatening/emergency calls. They will also still be out in public doing investigations but will limit physical contact with the public for health and safety reasons.

poped up in my cousin s feed. Seems local law enforcement is not gonna responded to non emergancy's if you have an issue fill out a web form.

@Jet Fuel Johnny I ve enjoyed some of your prepper talk. Thought the other talk was alittle out there. But I understand you ve lived through events that tought you. "no one is coming to fix things you have to fix them yourself"

Yet another thing to put into perspective to prevent people from freaking the fuck out so soon:

About 25% of Italy's population smokes, and smoking in of itself has been on a steady rise for years. And yes, many of them are young, too.

http://www.ansa.it/english/news/201...ise_9678eff5-67ca-4a9c-8b29-efcf6ae26412.html

China has had to face similar numbers as well: https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-cases-why-more-men-than-women-2020-2?op=1

Is reading something like that tweet scary? Of course, especially since we're uncertain whether she's full of shit or not. However, there's more to this than just the numbers. "Oh my god, people in their 40s have had to be put on ventilators!" Yeah? And smoking is a big deal in Italy right now, too. This doesn't surprise me.

Just stop for a second, breathe, and use common knowledge that smokers can be more seriously impacted by the virus than non-smokers. A random 40 year old with no health problems and no smoking history is simply not likely to need a ventilator. This isn't Thanos snapping his fingers and killing people at random, everyone.

Plus, Italy's healthcare system is total ass. Doesn't shock me that they're rationing who is getting care, sadly.

That is similar to an old trick we used when we lived in the city. Anything of value we had to leave out we put under a tarp. Out of sight, out of mind goes a long way.

We will be well over 100 dead in the US by Saturday-Sunday. Because it's gotten into a few Nursing Homes that are just starting to cook off. As soon as you have one in there, it's done. There's a Veterans home in Oregon. There is a California Nursing home. And I think a doctor or proivider in a Childrens Hospital just was confirmed with it. These sorts of things are what is going to run the numbers up and drive panic. The biggest danger of it getting loose in the general public isn't the risk of death to most of them. (although some will suffer Acute Respiratory Distress, even at 20, 30, 40 years old. Some, but not many) The real danger is spreading it to at risk communities. God forbid it gets into Bingo Night at a Sun City Retirement Community or The Villages.

Shutting the Schools is probably the smartest thing at this time. The worst places for it to end up are in the sealed unit Health Care facilities. The extended care facilities. Nursing Homes, Rehab Facilities (not drug, Physical and Cardiac Rehab) and special care Skilled Nursing Facilities. The real danger there is the staff becomes the carriers. And it will jump between facilities via the staff's children and the schools.

It's also important to note that we will most definitely be seeing number of cases altogether spike up in the upcoming days. Not because people are catching this and dropping dead within 24 hours or anything, but because a lot of these cases still remain unreported and even untested.

The rationing with the number of tests is a problem, as are the test themselves. We definitely need more of them (I think the FDA fucked up big time in blocking the more expensive test; guarantee some people would have paid money for those and eventually better tests would have come from it). It's also a problem that it takes so long to get results from the tests that we do have when ideally, the test should be similar to something like mono, where you can get the results almost immediately.

This is why I believe so many things around the country are shutting down, like all professional sports and schools. Not because "somebody knows something that we all don't and the world is on the brink of ending," but because there is simply too much waiting happening right now, so the best thing we can do is do our best to self-quarantine and practice basic hygiene whether we experience symptoms or not.
