My Dad has to call India frequently for his job. He said that they told him that they think we're all overreacting in burgerland. Apparently, they deal with this shit all the time due to the country's awful sanitation.

To be fair India has accepted a LOT of dead people from routine plagues. Like... Holy shit that's a lotta unnecessary deaths.

When I get home, after a well-deserved nap, I intend to create a graph of the number of infected and dead from Italy, and construct a best-fit line from the data points. I want to be able to visualize and afterwards, extrapolate, what the hell is going on over there. I was waiting for the virus to hit a country that wouldn't lie (as much) about the number of dead.

Use spain or south korea, right now it's the most accurate numbers you'll get. I mean we still got bias from lack of testing for asymptomatic and lights but we got a lot less bias than anyone else.

I know this is a joke, but it's one of the largest anime conventions in the world. It gets about 25,000 attendees each year. And, well, hygiene is about as you'd expect. Probably best for it to be cancelled.

These were originally planned for travelers coming into the US needing quarantine. With the travel ban in place, word is they are being converted to ICUs even though they only hold 250 people each.

I've driven by one, the facilities can be observed from the road. Saw activity, could not tell you what's going on but did notice tents and temporary structures set up nearby. There's room - a lot of it - for more structures to go up.

Hoping we learn more during today's conference about how the Feds are coordinating with National Guard in various states. Have the feeling they're about to announce limits on interstate travel, which would be the first step before going house to house. Going to be listening for what he doesn't say.

I fear we're nearing the point where it's time to get away from the cities. While my personal health risk is low, that changes if there's a high infection rate or supplies become scarce. The vile, despicable acts of mobs concern me more than the government, being locked in somewhere with people going feral would probably push me over the edge.

I have said this before, but unless you have someone you're going to stay with, don't leave the city. Anecdotal news from China.

My in-laws say things are fine in the village where they live. They're unaware of any cases and now hold an eerie amount of praise with how efficiently the government has responded to the crisis. We were even told we should definitely just come to China for the next month or two to ride out the virus. We're hearing similar things from other friends in Hangzhou as well.

This is in stark contrast to a month ago where WeChat and Weibo were frothing at the mouth ready to storm the Forbidden Palace over the death of Dr. Li Wenliang. Now there's no hide nor hair of a mention of it and everyone appears to be going on with their lives like normal. The turn in cases correlated almost exactly with his death and the first inklings that the Chinese economy was hurting. Now state-run papers are blasting our articles about how China has the virus on the run, how the Chinese people are coming together under socialism, how China is aiding the world in combating the illness (it fucking released), and how you had best get the fuck back to work.

It is very possible that China squashed major outbreaks with draconian measures. I find it much more likely however that there is an underground outbreak happening in China that the CCP is keeping off social media and doing its damndest to keep contained in hospitals and cities. There is an attitude of "it's fine" that is going on in China right now that is unnerving.
