Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

The Netherlands now has over 800 confirmed cases. 10 deaths. The RIVM still tells people that 'you are much less likely to infect others if you have no symptoms', stores have altered their opening hours, and in some places people are hoarding all kinds of shit. On the other side, there are people who still think it's just a flu.

Possible pl:
I asked my boss how to handle some things, as I am in a risk group and a lot of my face-to-face customers are boomers and silents and I really don't want to possibly infect them. He told me that was "an extremely good question" and suggested I'd stop doing face-to-face work and he would make some calls to his bosses. 30 mins later he showed up again and told me I "should, no, must go home", no buts. I'm to stay home for the coming two weeks at least.

Talked to the security guard on my way out. Turns out he is the only other person who prepared weeks ago and mentioned he was in contact with some high ranking military somethings, and that things are looking bleak. He told me nothing I haven't already learnt through the farms (you guys are wonderful), except that there is a chance of panic and suggested I get a firearm of some sort. I'm not sure if he's right, the Dutch are too lazy and passive to go out and loot stores and stuff like that.

Went to the supermarket next door before heading home and it was rather crowded, but that may be because it's saturday. No one was hoarding anything and there was nobody around the canned and dried goods sections. Everything but hand sanitizer seemed to be in stock. The cashiers were wearing gloves and I overheard them talking about how they'd get paid more if they actually wore them. The virus is surrounding my city, but we haven't had any known cases yet. So far I haven't seen anyone wearing a mask.

My partner and a bunch of people I know were sent home yesterday, to work from home. One friend who works in a hospital in Zeeland may have to be tested for the virus because they let employees into virus suspects' rooms without telling them they were previously occupied by said suspects.

That's not Chinese. Chinese "food markets" don't sell bats. This is a myth that I originally believed as well.
It's the Indonesians that consume bat meat, which is considered a delicacy in China but very popular and common in certain regions of Indonesia, at least from what I've heard. Your image for example is from here: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-02-05/20200130_092814.jpg/11928242

When did Bat become a delicacy in China? Is this a recent phenomenon of needing to keep up with Wangs?

Local restaurants have stopped keeping stuff on the tables like napkins, ketchup, etc. One mentioned they're switching to ketchup packets and pre-filled 1oz condiment containers with lids, which they usually use for delivery / takeout.

In other news:

Idaho has joined the party:

archive.li is a smoking crater, sorry.

Highlights: Infected woman is a 50 year old, attended some conference in NYC. Went through Boise Airport. They thought it was a standard flu until the lab tested it for Wu Flu.

Boise State is closing in person classes for the rest of the spring term. (Until May 10 at the earliest.) People on campus are advised to GO HOME if possible; classes will be held using distance learning (online classes) if they can.

Idaho has shut down their court system to all non-essential stuff until April 10th.

I have family in the area and apparently panic buying has completely emptied out pretty much all grocery stores. Looking up on twitter, there are lots of people talking about it:

Food Riots have started, with Winco employees announcing some stores are having to shut down not because of cleaning as advertised, but because people are attacking the workers trying to stock shelves. (Winco is 24x7 but usually stocks shelves between 12am and 5am.) https://twitter.com/rubuiero/status/1238740572250112001

And people -- lots of people -- talking about how Winco has massive lines awaiting it's opening:

Video: 500+ people in line to enter Winco. (The Fire Code would prevent them from doing so but there's no way that's being enforced.)

A colleague with family in Eugene says that Winco is basically the stupid cheap grocery store in the NW, lots of bulk options and the like. Apparently it's a popular prepper store.

Raising children without the Government's assistance or permission? What kind of fascist bullshit is this?

Nursing is the female equivalent of IT or maybe Law School. It's where thots and the like go because they've been told it's easy and stupid amounts of money. From what I understand many of them don't even get jobs in the nursing industry due to massive, massive oversaturation.

The thot that cried about The Quartering suggesting that exhibitionist whores don't really add anything to a competitive card game was caught lying about feeling harassed by him, she accidentally unlocked her patreon for a bit. Apparently she had been waiting to get into Nursing school for most of a year and finally got in -- again, oversaturated as hell? She just wanted to knife someone in the back on the way out, because thots gonna thot.

So yeah. Should be interesting seeing a lot of these types of entitled nutbars actually being pushed to do the job they obstensibly trained to do but in reality just signed on for because they felt pressure to do it...

Edit:

This just in, NPC update

It is now the #MaralagoVirus, because CHINA NUMBAH WON and the check cleared.

They are so goddamned desperate to try and pin this shit on him (and get it away from their Commie Chink masters).

Can confirm, my sister is both a THOT and nurse.

Fucking hell and you muricans claim to be more free than europeans?

Yes, we are.

9 more now, making the number of detected cases 93. And it will grow as right now 4414 tests have been made with over 1500 during the last 24 hours. (Talking about Poland).
Good. Guess the minister wasn't kidding about being able to do 2000 tests per day. That would explain the increase and I guess the low number of serious cases too: we're starting to catch many while they're still mild. Not sure how we compare to other places in terms of testing people though, can't find daily breakdowns for most countries.

Kazakh update: Everything's still calm, no panic buying yet.
I'm starting to believe that we might be the only ones that'll remain relatively unscathed for the time being. But I'm ready for that belief to be shattered as soon as Corona-Chan begins dancing across our streets.
Here in Russia, things are for the most part still quite calm. If the Coronavirus is brought up in conversation, it's usually followed by some classic Russkie black humor.

So at midnight went to the 24 hour super market. it wasnt as bad as some of the photos posted here but no TP. in a mexican area so very little left of the beans and instant noodles. Honestly the panic buying people seemed smart went for mostly try or canned goods.

oh yeah very little bread left.

I dont blame people for doubting, I mean how many incoming crises do we get subjected to we have greata and climate change, aliens, new world order etc. Some minor blip on the MSM about china fighting a virus and a bunch of twitter NPC s yelling about racism, The true adults who shoulda been reality checking shit were hoping for warm weather to make it go away, and I cant even be too pissed at them. its an election year, dont spook the market, dont offend china.

I wish a member of the authorties would go on TV and call out retards for panic buying.

@Jet Fuel Johnny what did your friend want? and do people in your social circle know you got goods?

I m coming around to the wisdom you and others mentioned over a month ago about not sharing that you have shit. I ve looked at my pantry which can get me by for awhile. I shared a photo with a friend whose on the other side of the world and he told me it made him nervous, cause he doesnt have a full pantry, thats the last of me showing my hand to others.

Also people made a good point here to not run out and panic buy just keep your routine and buy alittle extra

Indonesia indeed eats many exciting things.

tbh it was probably a pangolin rather than a bat though

Italy closed the airports to flights from China in the last week of January, while the rest of Europe blithely continued to keep theirs open and calling us paranoid. We hadn't official cases, yet. The first infected was discovered the third week of February, and the government decided to red zone the town he lived in and quarantine and test all the people he came in contact with. A friend of mine, who has a relative who lives in Germany, on 23th February wrote me that in Germany no precautions were taken, because the virus was treated as "a normal flu". and that they considered us crazy. Idem in UK and the Nederlands. The measures we took were judged disproportionate and motivated by panic. We always took this shit seriously.
Italy was one of the first countries to report cases outside China, and that was in late january. Not sure where you have 3rd week of february from.

The best part about the panic buyers is there's no way they're actually gonna use all that toilet paper.

You'd be surprised. TP has many uses. The art of utilizing TP for increasingly unbelievable crafts it's only rivaled by Mcguyver's bubblegum-fu.

Or you know you can also just go and launch it at football matches, for some fucking reason.

Translation: memories from when we lived over our means.

Well there are recovered people, and if there weren't people recovering, or getting better and staying better, they wouldn't be able to hide it no matter how much they tried. So who knows. Did that Indian research paper get debunked or retracted?

If you mean the HIV coronavirus one, yes, yes it was. Both by actual scientists and by KIWIs.

Where I am - in a rural part of Australia - people are stocking up on non-perishables and things they can freeze. I've been on some of the boards to do with this region and I'd have to say what is being described as panic buying is not really driven by panic at all. At least not here. It is driven by a totally rational worry that the supply chains will break and essential foods will not be available. Much as happens in bush fires and floods. Luckily, our village has a baker and he said they have enough ingredients for three or four weeks or longer if we ration bread just a little.
I do not know how serious this is and do not pretend to know. But it is looking bad. I have been self-isolating for a few weeks and only going at when necessary as I have lung issues so I have to be careful all the time. We live on a block out of the village and do not see a lot of other folks anyways . I have read that mortality rates vary between countries and even within countries. However, even if it is 1% in a developed country like Australia, and say 1 m people get it - that is 10,000 dead.
Until we know more about the virus, and ho it behaves and so on, I'm prepared to be careful.

I ain't takin' no advice from no Rusalka.

Go drown someone else.

Remember kiwi-s - people shaming anyone buying supplies for more than one day as "hoarders" or "panic buyers" are doing it out of the shame of their own inadequacies - they'll be the first ones begging government to help them once they run out of something.
Buying spare supplies ahead of crisis is sensible and responsible thing to do, since it will alleviate the strain on supply chains when SHTF. Just dab on the screeching grasshoppers when the time comes, or have them shake their ass for TP - throw single sheets at these faggots like dollar bills.
