Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I decided to stockpile goods a few weeks ago ahead of time. Thankfully I got a 12 pack of tp before the insanity ensued. What should I think of all the irrational hoarding and people behaving like savage animals? I kinda feel like some darwin award type shit should happen to them.

I’m gonna just say that I’m glad I listened to the forums and took the chance to buy things early. I prepared slowly, starting in February and now I am only shopping for non-essentials.

I just bought extra because I started my first job when Y2K started up, so I knew people were going to freak out regardless if it was bad or not.

Very useful thanks, it's also getting close to me. I want to believe their self quarantine worked, but I bet we will see if it did in 2 weeks or more.
Well not there yet, but we have already 61 cases confirmed. I'll say this again we are fucked.

What should I think of all the irrational hoarding and people behaving like savage animals?
Here's an explanation for the TP thing I came across:

After the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan,
researchers at Hitotsubashi University studied buying patterns and
concluded, “we can say that particularly anxious households appear to
have bought anything that they could lay their hands on."

>“Hey Anon... I was just stopping by to say that I’m sorry that I laughed at your prepping and called the virus a nothingburger, with all that toiletpaper you’ve stockpiled do you think you could spare a roll or two?

I can’t pay with money because my foodstamps have been put on hold by the federal government but maybe we could figure something out?

Start selling your surplus TP for $100 a roll.

*Throws last Sunday's paper at them*

Sure thing, ya Thot 👍

Their middle eastern aspirations is like a precious power ring melting before their finger. Suleimani was a pivotal lynchpin to their plans and he's now dead. Now this general is dead too and there's more to come.
I'm just waiting for some young officers/up and comers in the army to get too ambitious for their own good and attempt to rise up, pro gamer style.

I have it on good authority that not all women have slots, transphobe.

This worked better when they did it in Doctor Who.

"Don't you think she looks tired?"

The final solution is when all theses idiots are in the ICU or dying in plague camps, we can raid their houses for free shit.

I get a "if only you knew how bad things really were" vibe from him. Seriously, more than anything else, I think that was kinda my blackpill moment.

"Oh shit. This really is a happening, isn't it?"

My own prep work isn't great. I have enough food to last a few weeks I think, if I ration properly. Really wish I had spent ~$50 on pork / beef roasts to freeze, since you can chop those up into chops and steaks and the like, and use the leftover bits as stew. Might try going out and seeing about buying some real quick, but from what I understand my town is pretty picked clean from panic buying. It's not urgent yet, so I probably can wait till next week and see if things stabilize.

It’s exhaustion. Our pastor sounded like this one Lenten season when several people got sick and we didn't have a vicar.

The press freaking out about Trump shaking hands yesterday ...

Shocker: stuff like shaking hands and touching your face are habits that are hard to break. Its easier said than done to stop doing that. The absolute scandal. Several people in the public eye have been caught on camera doing it over the past couple of days, too. It happens. The press is acting like Trump licked his hands, wiped his ass with them, and then grabbed people. lol.

Pork loins are good, lean, tender, about $2 a pound and really versatile, our local discount store had lots yesterday. You can slice them into chops or dice them for stews and stuff. You can get 4 meals for around ten bucks. Or people with room to freeze should check out restaurant supplies like Cash and Carry. You have to buy in large pieces you butcher down, but ten pounds of beef at $2.50 -$3.00 or so a pound will stretch your money and food a long way, pork and chicken are even cheaper.

I used to work in a store that sold toilet paper and I can tell you that it comes in absolutely ginormous boxes, takes up a ton of space in the stockroom and delivery truck, and sells in very predictable volumes under normal circumstances. So it doesn't take much of an increase in demand to wipe out the supply. Stores are probably getting it delivered but dumbasses will scoop it all up the moment it hits the shelf. Obviously production will increase to address demand but unless retailers are comfortable with being accused of gouging there will still be shortages because there isn't a huge margin on paper goods if I recall correctly. Generic hand sanitizer is probably what all the store managers are fighting to get right now.

Don’t forget, this is very literally Trump’s personal worst nightmare. He’s big time Germphobic. In some ways that works to our advantage. For all the Monday morning quarterbacking about when and which travel restrictions should have been put in place, the truth is Trump did so much faster Than any of our more traditional DC swamp dwellers would have. Does anybody remember when we weren’t allowed to put travel restrictions in place for West Africa during the last big Ebola outbreak because it would be “racist”? Trump’s paranoia about disease had him cut off Chinese travel pretty immediately. Something I don’t think a more traditional US politician would have even viewed as an option due to the perceived minefield of blowback.

Granted even with his paranoia he still ends up having photo ops with Corona-Chan.

I live in a moderately-sized town with a population just under 40,000, and my state closed its schools recently and currently has 19 confirmed cases.

Went to a local grocery store, and while there were quite a few people there, no one was in any real hurry. Still loads of items on the shelves, though I didn't check the paper aisle. Though someone took all the French Silk pies.

I'm guessing you're in Wisconsin judging by the 19 confirmed cases. How much do you interact with the locals and what're you hearing from them? I've seen mostly people pulling the 'it's just the flu bro' shit but I'm also seeing a few people get that squirrelly look in their eyes when talking about the shortages of shit tickets.

Trump is a germophobe who treats the economy like it's his baby. Within his skull, you can see theres little men using his synapses like a tug of war rope.

When other politicians are conflicted, they often stall. Fortunately, Trump is taking decisive action.
