Bi, pan, aroace... honestly, it's just pandering to the tumblr crew, that made the success of this show after the original demographic (children) mostly bowed out. The gems are constructs made of light, how can you have sexual desire if you haven't sexual organs to begin with and you don't produce hormones? So all the gems should be 'asexual'.
Yeah I can’t imagine too many kids getting excited over a character being asexual. It’s literally Zuke 2.0, complete with crying about “muh representation”.
The thing is now Peridot being asexual hinges on fusion being once again a metaphor for sex, despite the crew insisting otherwise. And all because they couldn’t control one storyboarder.

Agreed, most kids are more in tuned with their tablets and YouTube to give a rat's ass about SU.

And funny you should mention Zuke, people on Twitter are starting to see some level of hypocrisy in regards to what Maya said.

They even mention that the hypocrisy is present thanks to a piece of artwork Sugar made a while back. I'll take this one with a grain of salt since IIRC the shippy parts are based off of a scene from NGE.

I have a feeling that, if CN wants to avoid any future SU events turning into bloodbaths, they'll either have Sugar support Maya's idiocy or have her reiterate that nothing said by the storyboarders is true unless it's outright stated in the show. Seeing as how pozzed CN is right now, I fully expect them to go with the first option.

It gotten to the point that people have been completely twisting the situation around; apparently now Sugar has been teasing this forever and Maya is just being brave by clearing up the details. The fact that neither Rebecca or the crew came up to confirm this should be suspect to others.

Also, this has an interesting net effect; the crew were always the type to just let people ship whatever they want. Thanks to Petersen, they can’t say that anymore lest they upset the asexual fans. The whole thing is coming apart at the seams.

Speaking of ships, what happened to mystery girl? Didn't they hint, she would be Pearl's new love interest. Her return was teased like 3 years ago (she debuted in 2016). The wiki said she made a cameo later, but that would be a cop out.

Oh goody I needed some salt for the margarita I'm drinking. :drink:

This children's (but not really) cartoon has EIGHT EPISODES LEFT, the production is wrapped up, how on earth are these fools still hanging on the word of anyone that isn't Becky herself? Or even her hubby Ian JQ who seemed to have been the tard wrangler for the fandom before OKKO kept him busy. (I remember SU fans were ready to shun MLP fans wanting to infiltrate the fandom calling themselves GEMtlemen and Ian told them to "choose love" aka "chill the fuck out" and it worked.) This is just plain sad...ly funny.

Once again, SU should have been on [adult swim]. They change their lore so much to avoid the kiddie censors' wrath it just leaves it all a mess. Gems are living magic creatures who feel emotions or robots who can be programmed and controlled? (and genderless which invalidates the lesbian hullabaloo) Fusion is only a means to protect yourself from danger or a way to express sexual pleasure and the strange thing called love? Gems can only be what they're created to be or can choose what they want to be at any time? Gems can only take life and not create it or Pink Diamond is a fucking witch who made an entirely new creature? I bet [AS] would've loved to have a cartoon that's more dramatic and action-oriented instead of pure comedy. (basically another Samurai Jack S5 but gayer)

lol Lauren got off Twitter, changed her name and pronouns, and she STILL can't escape her spergarific past. People who need cartoon characters to validate their beliefs and identities need electroshock therapy.

Who knows. There was a timeskip so it'd be in line with this show to just say, "oh they went on a couple dates but it didn't work out" like they did with Lars and Sadie's relationships. Tell don't show.

According to the writers, there were never any future plans for MG and her whole purpose was just to get Pearl to loosen up and have her eventually date other people, not unlike Amethyst and Peridot.

Oh, keep in mind that this was after they bragged about how there were no one off characters in SU.

The show in general took a big hit once Ian left; it’s no coincidence that the show became a lot less fun and action oriented after he was gone, to the point you can really feel the difference.

As for people are listening to one boarder; A. This particular artist was already quite popular with the fans and B. Peridot being asexual was a popular headcanon so Maya basically chummed the waters by saying it. Exhibit A:

But how would they be able to teach kids about the wonderful world of the LGBT community (even though they pretty failed in doing that honestly)?

Well the two newest episodes dropped; pretty cut and dry and where the “plot” starts. Part 1 has Steven taking bad advice from Ruby and Sapphire and proposes to Connie, who turns him down. This causes Steven to spiral into a depression and he checks into the hospital; there Connie’s mom examines him and concludes that all the stress and trauma from childhood is now affecting him physically, to the point he can’t even handle minor problems. Highlights include the third era problems line, the Slow Burn ice cream, and the sappy speech at the end of Part 2.

Not much to say here; it’s frustrating to see the Gems still be the funny aliens who don’t get human interactions and while I see what they were going for with Steven’s speech at the end and god bless Zach Callison he was trying, it was so overacted and melodramatic I expected sad Full House music to play. I guess their attempts at deconstructing the kid hero is kind of interesting, if not done to death at this point.

Part 1 has Steven taking bad advice from Ruby and Sapphire and proposes to Connie, who turns him down.
Steven: "Connie has such a bright future ahead of her, while I'm not sure what I want to do. All I know is that I care about her."

Ruby: "You two should get married!"

Steven: "Really? What do you think sapphire?"

Sapphire: "I dunno just do it. It worked for me."

That's basically how that exchange went. It's a shame too, they could have easily used that episode to further develop their relationship (Steven and Connie's just to clarify) instead of emotionally torturing him for the 20th time. Not going to lie, I thought that scene with them at the beach was adorable.

So it appears Maya Peterson, one of the co-writers and storyboarders for the episode, recently posted to Twitter that Peridot is meant to be the show's asexual and aromance representation and the fandom is experiencing a massive shitstorm right now.

People are pissed for several reasons, all of which boil down to either shipping nonsense or feeling like it's continuing the stereotype of autismos not being interested in romance or sex (which, as we all know due to the nature of lolcows in general, is a load of bunk). The only "plus" I can see is that people are being somewhat civil towards her.

Meanwhile, AwestruckVox is trying to tell people that Peridot was coded as such since 2017 or earlier due to her appearance in a book that "explained" fusion and used her as an example of a Gem that doesn't want to fuse.

People are giving him more shit than Maya, but that's expected since he isn't connected to crew at all.

That said, one tweet in Vox's response is a pretty good summarization to all this madness.
This sort of pointless drama is what happens when your creative team consists of people who act like they’re still just glorified fan artists rather than supposed professionals.

I'm all caught up now that my job told me to stay home this weekend. (thank you and curse you, Chingchong Flu.)

"In Dreams" - Trippy and drippy in cringy meta commentary. Peridot soured for me when she lost her limbs and villainous angle to the point I wanted the shattering of Gems to start with her being under YD's boot. But after this episode... she alright.
"Bismuth Casual" - The human designs are fucking AWFUL. I think they're either fancharacters or staff members inserting themselves in the show like they did in PPG 2016. Pearl and Bismuth is...cute? It makes more sense than Pearl and Human Rose. (pearl likes em big, pearl likes em chunkay)

As for "Together Forever", I'm not surprised how disastrous it turned out for Steven seeing as how his exposure of relationships is his widower Dad with a 16-year dryspell, two codependent aliens, the very embodiment of "it's complicated" that is Lars and Sadie, and Vidalia who married a man who adopted her bastard son and gave her a hellspawn son. Garnet really is nothing but a guru for relationships when she really can't say shit since she barely interacts with humans.

In "Growing Pains", @Private Pyle had a point about no religion being in SU and yet there's the token muslim girl. This ep proved that it took the human straight father to help fix a problem that three lesbian space moms caused. Progress. 🚬 And I think they heard me when I mentioned gay dudes kissing would be new with the Dogcoptor thing haha.

And here I was returning to this thread to praise the recent episodes.

These guys just can't maintain a high.

I still enjoy the show. I don’t think it’s as bad as people say, not do I think it’s a flawless perfect show either.
I enjoy bits of the show, mostly when Stephen and the 3 Core Crystal Gems are on screen doing things together. Like when the Gems made Stephen play tag.

That was the only episode of Future I think I really liked.

The thing about Future that is very quickly getting exhausting is that almost every episode features the following layout.

-Steven gets emotional about something.
-Steven turns pink/powers
-Steven gets a pep-talk
-Episode ends.

Rinse and repeat. I get that they are building conflict but it's going to make Steven's inevitable de-corruption via pep-talk/love a lot less impactful because literally everyone and their mom has already done so in previous episodes.

I like the idea that they are breaking down the concept of child-protagonists and addressing the often ignored sentiment that child protagonists tend to go through a lot of trauma. But this is NOT the show to be doing this kind of thing. This is a show about lesbian space rocks and bumming around beach town. It's not qualified enough to address the impact of trauma.

Surely childhood Trauma can be cured with a hug and forgiveness.
