I think the economy bouncing back in just a few months is optimistic. Even IF this virus is contained within a few months, there has been a massive disruption of supply from China that has been caused by the outbreak. Not only are many factories no longer in service, but travel restrictions are naturally going to be economically problematic. In the long run, this recession will likely strengthen global economies, but I'm not confident we will see the economy recover before the election.
as for his twitter being "unhinged," Trump comparing himself to Nero comes to mind. I get that, to his base, this comes off as banter, but the majority of people see that as crazy.
At this point, I don't think that anybody (including myself) is expecting a full economic recovery by the end of this year. That's a pipe dream. However, I do expect to see some things start to repair themselves if this virus can run its course in the upcoming weeks and months. In order for the economy to fix itself, the people need to have confidence in what's going on right now with COVID-19. If Trump can successfully rebuild that confidence by doing a good job at combating this pandemic, then I don't think that reelection will be an issue for him.
And again, in comparison to Trump's opponents ... They have nothing to offer in terms of any solutions. The best they've got against Trump at the moment is "He shook hands with people yesterday REEEE." I'm not even hearing much criticism about his travel bans anymore because I think most people immediately realized it was the right call to make. Bernie can say all he wants in a Town Hall about how closing the borders is always racist and xenophobic ... Most Americans now will realize that wanting open borders at all times, at least in times like these, is an incredibly dangerous policy to push.
If anything, this pandemic is proving all of Trump's anti-globalism talk correct. Of course the media will not depict things that way, but if we start seeing some positive results with Trump's reaction to this, then I think the majority of voters are going to go with him, especially given who he is tentatively up against.
