Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Everything he just said is gold. The bit about paper towels is incredibly true: I have a mental war that I'm waging against the hand-drying blowers and the idiots who installed them in restrooms across the country. Paper towels actually help to rub off crap from your hands: the blowers simply dry your hands (poorly). You can also use the paper towels to turn off the water and open the door instead of touching those nasty-ass surfaces yourself: it's what I do.

If you check the sides of those blowers, you can see a label that reads, "Better for the environment and better for your health," and it makes me scowl and laugh at the same time.

Some update on the Philippines Coronavirus cases:

Manila lockdown starts

Meanwhile, in Mexico, a few hours ago the Vive Latino festival was held, with 70,000 attendees.

What could go wrong?

They riot because John Cena won?

Actually, it's Americans visiting China who are the bigger threat now. So, if anything, China should be complaining about America for failing to manage the virus.

Fortunately, China has the capability to carry out tests on everyone who enters the country, and they're not afraid to impose quarantines and travel restrictions on infected gweilo.
That’s funny, because Chinese officials were complaining about racism when other countries were beginning to slow travel into China.

I think it will be funny watch how China’s supply chains go poof by the end of the decade. People are going to be pissed about this, around the world.

This afternoon I hauled my raggedy Midwest American ass out to do some last minute shopping. Yeah I know, I know.

Went to Walmart first. People were polite but there was some tension in the air. Store employees were trying to stock shelves with whatever things they had as fast as possible. There were a fair amount of bare shelves. Meat, dairy and frozen pizza were cleared out as well as rice and beans. There was a limit on how much bog roll could be purchased.

Next was Aldi. There were signs on the doors and throughout the building stating that they were out of melk and eggs, and that there was a limit on canned goods of four per item and a limit on bottled water of two. When I got to the cold section I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had just put out more melk and eggs. The meat section was decimated and there wasn't a box of salt to be found.

After that, Dollar Tree. It was relatively unscathed. Plenty of cleaning products there, including bleach.

So New York City went from the a handful of cases Friday to 326 today, and five dead from Corona-chan. The unbearable faggot de Blasio is fighting with the health commissioner and they aren't even on speaking terms because this dumbass is trying to micromanage the whole COVID-19 crisis but he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about and has been videoed giving people the wrong advice about the virus. People will die and it's a given thousands across the city are infected. I hope this filthy snake gets the virus, is stuck in an ICU (hopefully Corona-chan will put him to sleep) and someone with actual brains takes over who actually listens to a goddamn doctor instead of pandering to commie chinks.

I’ll say this, De Blasio has the most diverse hatebase on my the planet. NOBODY likes him. I garuntee you everyone would cheer when he’s beheaded in the streets.

Yeah, that's possible. I've heard some experts estimate that what we're doing now will only become noticeable more than a week from now. South Korea only managed to slow down their growth curve after the number of cases surged past 4000. The important thing is we're not late. Spain or Italy already screwed themselves over.

One major factor that hasn't gotten attention yet, but likely will in the next few weeks, will be the effect that 10+ years of forced austerity by the EU (Krauts) and being chained to the Euro had on the health care systems of Italy, Spain, and likely France. Their infrastructure has been cut to the bone, they have no reserve capacity whatsoever and it will (hopefully) be abundantly that they need to get back to having an independent fiscal policy ASAP.

I see we have a nucai on this thread to replace @MrTickles

That's if you believe what the Chinese say. I don't. Far as managing the virus, China is talking shit. They allowed their people early on not just to run all over the country for the Lunar New Year, but all over the world.
What's so hard to believe? Every time a new COVID-19 infection is discovered, the subject's movements are reconstructed from GPS, and everyone with whom they interacted are also tested and quarantined if positive. This is repeated until there are no more cases. There are also mobile and fixed automated checkpoints where temperature readings are performed. If the person has a fever, they are tested.
They invented this virus in the first place.
They did not "invent" it. That's baseless conspiracy theory talk. It was a chance mutation which could have occurred anywhere.
And China has shown us about welding people's doors shut, etc.
Yes, they are very serious about containing the outbreak. Is this not a good thing? A quarantine is useless if not enforced. I suppose in America they would rather let a hundred thousand die than detain someone in their home and risk litigation from a Jëwish human rights lawyer.

Throwing money at Corona-chan and lowering interest rates to nothing isn't going to do anything, Federal Reserve.

You can't treat this just like any bog standard recession. The only way the economy recovers is if the virus eradicates or devolves into a milder form.

From what I've seen, that isn't happening any time soon.

"whats so hard to believe"
Well, if you believe China's numbers, there have been only a handful of new infections for over a month, yet most of the country is still under full lockdown (evident from sattelite imagery and livestreams).

It's a chance mutation that spread to humans because Chinese are so mentally retarded they ate raw bat and spread the disease through horribly filthy open markets filled with gutter oil. This shit would have not started in a civilized country.

Human rights violations are now permissible if there is a virus now? Quarantine does nto mean "seal people into tombs where they can throw the dead out of windows" They are so serious that they implemented measures, like gathering all the sick together in one place, that help spread the disease, then crowd people into sham hospitals that collapse and leak like sieves while disappearing any doctors that tried to raise the alarm or speak out about the government's horrendous treatment of patients and the situation as a whole.

They are not treating this like a recession, they are treating this as a plague. Cutting interest rates and throwing money at the problem keeps people from working while sick and spreading the disease further. The more links you remove out of the viruses spreading chain, the more likely it will collapse and burn itself out. Closing schools, bars, restraunts, banning public gatherings, ece all cuts down on the infection rate and slows the disease down in every respectable way.

God Bless everyone on The Sabbath
Jesus will save us

Israeli Research Center to Announce It Developed Coronavirus Vaccine, Sources Say
Scientists at the Biological Research Institute are making significant breakthroughs in understanding coronavirus, the sources say, but a long process of pre-clinical and clinical trials is to follow

Scientists at Israel’s Institute for Biological Research are expected to announce in the coming days that they have completed development of a vaccine for the new coronavirus COVID-19.

According to medical sources, the scientists have recently had a significant breakthrough in understanding the biological mechanism and qualities of the virus, including better diagnostic capability, production of antibodies for those who already have the virus and development of a vaccine.

The development process requires a series of tests and experiments that may last many months before the vaccination is deemed effective or safe to use.

Asked about the development, the Defense Ministry said: "There has been no breakthrough in the efforts of the biological institute to find a vaccine for the coronavirus or to develop testing kits. The institute’s work is conducted according to an orderly work plan and it will take time. If and when there will be something to report, it will be done in an orderly fashion. The biological institute is a world-renowned research and development agency, which relies on experienced researchers and scientists with great knowledge and quality infrastructures. There are now more than 50 experienced scientists working at the institute on researching and developing a medical remedy for the virus."

The Institute for Biological Research, located in the central Israeli town of Nes Tziona, was established in 1952 as part of the Israel Defense Forces' Science Corps, and later became a civilian organization. It is technically under the supervision of the Prime Minister's Office, but is in close communication with the Defense Ministry.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhu ordered the institute to devote resources to developing a vaccine for COVID-19 on February 1.

Normally, a long process of pre-clinical trials on animals would be the next phase, followed by clinical trials. This period allows for a full characterization of side effects and a better understanding of how different populations are affected.

Yet the global emergency over the coronavirus pandemic may accelerate this process in order to vaccinate as many people who are most at risk from the virus.

The development of an effective vaccine would end the global crisis caused by the virus; it would also protect the world’s population for a more serious outbreak next year, as some predict could happen.

According to a Ynet report, three weeks ago, five shipments of virus samples arrived in Israel from Japan, Italy and other countries. They were brought by a specially secured Defense Ministry courier to the Institute for Biological Research. The samples had been frozen to -80 degrees Celsius. According to health and defense sources, since the samples arrived, there has been intensive work, including by leading experts, to develop the vaccine.

The assessment of experts in Israel and abroad is that the length of time needed to develop a vaccine runs from a few months to a year and a half. Numerous research teams all over the world are participating in the race to develop a vaccine. Many of them at this point are focusing on the way the virus presents itself in animals, with the biggest hurdle being the way it morphs when it moves from animals to human beings.

Shortly after the outbreak started in January, China released the genetic sequence of the virus on open scientific databases so that research institutes and commercial companies could try to develop treatments and vaccines without needing to obtain samples.

Around a month and a half after the genetic sequence was published, biotechnology company Moderna, Inc., based in Boston, Massachussets, announced it had completed the development of a possible coronavirus vaccine. Immediately afterward the vaccine was sent to the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, with clinical trials, which will include up to 25 health participants, to start in April and end in the summer. Any Israel vaccine will presumably also need to go through a similar or even stricter process before it will be approved for use.

Genuine question, if someone near you gets sick, be it a family member or even a next-door neighbour, what can you do to improve their condition/ chances of survival?

If hospitals are set to get overwhelmed, then it would be handy to know what precisely untrained individuals can do to minimise casualties outside of a hospital setting, because there has to be more that can be done once the virus gets past social distancing.

Do their groceries and leave them on the doormat? That's what people I know are trying to do right now. I guess this is what one can do to help the elderly and infirm.
