- Second coronavirus death. 60 year old woman died at Springfield hospital March 14th, tested post-death with results coming back positive today (archive)
- This was after first case in Lane County (where Eugene and U of O are) was confirmed earlier today. 69 year old man. Started showing symptoms March 1st, test ordered March 12th (archive)
- Oregon total, including deaths, now 68. Cases in 14 out of 36 counties. Bulk of cases (22) in Washington County, which is basically west Portland. Another 6 in Clackamas County, which is basically east Portland. 15 in Linn County, all at the veteran's home. Rest sprinkled throughout state. (archive)
- Governor has extended K-12 school closures through April 28th (archive)
- Multnomah County (Portland proper) has banned housing evictions and is trying to house homeless in random public buildings (archive)

Stopped in at the local Korger earlier today.

Middle of the day Tuesday, and the parking lot was packed. As full as the store was during Black Friday / Christmas -- busier, according to the store staff.

Same stuff was wiped out. Moocow Juice was completely gone. Meat was still fine, but now all the normal prices are flagged "SALE," so expect huge price spikes going on in a few weeks. Bread was gone, a lot of canned goods were gone. Fresh fruit and veg were wiped clean. Basically, the same as before, only even more wiped out.

My buddy who had his cart raided at another store wanted rice, but that didn't happen. Small 2-5 lb bags of white rice were going for $1.75 a pound. No idea if that's gouging, as I buy at a different store in 10-20 pound bags.

They plucked out a graphic showing 2.2 Million US deaths, labeling it in the fine print as showing the number of deaths “in the absence of actions.” What they don’t say is what the report itself said: that this scenario was unlikely. That upper bound assumes that people would do nothing even as others around them fell sick.

A thought. Since 9-11 the US Government has pissed away over six trillion dollars in Iraq and Afghanistan, not to mention the injured and dead American troops, for, basically, nothing. No benefit to our country whatsoever, far as I can tell. Zero. Nil. Zilch. Those places are still shitholes and will always be that way.

So I'm good with the government spending a fraction of that amount to help the American people and the American economy get back on track in the wake of the WuFlu. Why not?

I was too hasty to say China had lost the mandate of heaven a few months ago: I had underestimated how much the west was being held together by tape & glue. Sure China's response was retarded, but the flailing of the west in managing is letting us catch up quickly to their retardation if Italy is any indication (This "Italy is not white/a third world country so of course so many are dying" is a massive cope). It will be easy for China in the aftermath to point to the US' implosion and say that their response was competent in comparison.

This shit stopped after Jiang. Jiang was compared to frogs and he didn't seem to give two fucks.
