Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

How do you get that from the argument that people should simply assume the worst and take strong personal measures regardless of official numbers?
Because you're assuming a unilateral response to positive cases along with a unilateral testing methodology, both of which you should have disregarded after reading any five pages from this thread over the last two weeks.

No state or, I'm betting, no two counties are approaching this virus in an identical fashion (which is part of the problem) and saying things like "well if you test positive, they'll just tell you to do x" is foolish.

Serious question, can you read? What the hell are you talking about. What "assuming a unilateral response" are you talking about? I explicitly say that you can't enforce that kind of thing. What I said was a recommendation towards people freaking out about test kits and tracking of infected patients.

All you're doing is reinforcing my point that individuals need to be assuming the worst about the spread when going out because of reality on the ground.

Tonight's UK Press update.

All schools UK wide to close on Friday.

However, "key workers" including NHS workers, delivery drivers for supermarkets etc are to still send their kids in as they will be turned into effectively day care to help cover. All exams are subsequently cancelled/postponed.

London's busses and tube remains full, London's Bars remain full and life in the city is carrying on nearly as normal after brief periods of quiet. "London is not listening" according to Beth Rigby of Sky News.

BoJo basically says they either stop being silly sods or more steps will be taken, and confirms the "active consideration" of locking down London to slow it down as the UK's epicentre of the Kung Flu.

you can't enforce that kind of thing
...and following that logic to the end leads to "...and so no attempt should be made", which is what I think is wrong.

Some people adhering to a temporary curfew/quarantine/what have you on account of it being ordered is better than none at all due to no order being given. That not everyone will obey is a terrible argument on levels that I don't think need to be addressed.

I've got a side business doing 3d printing as needed. One of the customers found there's a company in syracuse making surgical shields for hospital staff. Folks started asking me to make them and I'm seeing if I can get the design to print out for the front line staff.

Not here to make a killing, here to put my items to good use and keep those nurses alive while our local gov't goes DerpDerp looking for medical supplies.

Oh come on, this is next level exceptional, even for you. A Chinese billionaire is not "China" ffs. Next up you'll be saying that Gates Foundation is US.
Also wasn't the test kits that came from China initially faulty anyways? Like the whole CDC debacle was precisely because of the error rate from NYC's first 10 people.

And then for the masks, of course they have a stockpile, alibabaman has been hoarding it since his hospitals turned into moats. Dude's probably just rerouting already ordered and manufactured masks and cbs sucked his dick for it.

You know disasters, epidemics, and wars have been very good methods for tech to advance.

Maybe 3D printing can finally advance beyond retarded plastics and shit.

I always wanted to 3D print a fully edible carrot.

I'm glad the uk has finally closed schools. Honestly, people are panic buying here but other wise aren't taking this seriously, I just walked past a full pub of drunk people.
I work with a girl, who usually I'm friends with but she keeps bragging about not caring and boasting how this means nothing cause it's just a cough. Thing is, her family has existing health issues. I told her she should quarantine them but she just took the piss. We were given a rule today as well to wear PPE and when I gave it to her, she laughed and refused to wear it. I don't understand how it's bragging rights to not care about something like this. It's an illness that kills people. You'd worry about any other virus, disease, why not this? Also, people are starting to go insane - a mix of 'idc i want to die anyway' and 'if you dont have that product in stock, i will kill you'. People are lemmings

Is anybody watching the conference? It's nuts. Trump is saying it's very contagious, comparing it to WW2, shutting down non essential procedures like at dentists, talking about how millennials are going to get it and there will be a spike in cases coming soon (but they attribute it to a backlog of tests). Stuff I heard a couple of days ago that was considered conspiracy like shutting down dental procedures is happening.
I’m so fucking glad the trumpet is not pussyfooting around anymore! This shit needs to stated so thick skulled Americans will get it!

3d printing is already saving lives in Italy where they can print valves and what not when the supplier is out. I have enough plastic to print nonstop for years on all my printers.

I can 3d print 'food' to an extent. Not plant or meat matter yet. Chocolates and pancakes so far. small things that don't require giant supports.

We are ALMOST to the point of printing food but the 'base' matter has not been discovered yet to make it commercially viable for SMB's.

Yes we can make long strips of vat grown meats but nothing on the scale of Star trek yet.

Don't worry, she'll just blame the government when her family dies.
Those people are 14th century peasants blaming god for the plague.

Holy shit you're dense. Where am I talking about what governments should do? Im just putting you on ignore after this because I can't tell if you're just that stupid or trolling. I'm saying there is a limit to what can be done and what can be known and what I would recommend individuals do with that in mind. Where you are getting that I think people should be massing together to lick other and that governments should be absent is beyond me.

And today on reasons I love spain:

-cerdeña (a municipio) has had to specify that getting out so your dog can do its necessities is only allowed if the animal is still alive after someone tried to take out a taxidermied dog.

-since the armymen out on the streets for the most part are just cleaning and doing odds and ends we got multiple pairs that (when not wearing hazmats) have taken to helping old people grab their groceries so they can still go out (others just get neighbors to do it but some are insistent on going to the shop themselves)

-we got cops that, since now they gotta patrol the streets fining turists, have taken to using music and old monologues to cheer the neighborhood while they're at it

Our government sucks. Everyone else, A+.

Are we about to see infections blow up in Kenya?
Archive
The Ministry of Health is tracing 85 people who came into contact with a woman who left Mbagathi Hospital but later tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19).
There are currently only seven confirmed cases.

Kenya has confirmed three more coronavirus cases, meaning the country now has seven patients with Covid-19.
Small beginnings but according to the ancient Chinese proverb, A journey of a thousand miles to millions of infections must begin with a single step super-spreader.
