Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I've been trying to figure out where this disaster lands on the scale of bad shit to happen to the world generally and America specifically, and honestly the only thing in recent history that is comparable is the start of world war 1.

Something seemingly innocuous occurring on the fringes of a major global power has suddenly exploded into an international catastrophe. One that threatens to upend the entire global order that had been carefully crafted for almost a century. Just as World War 1 upended the congress of Vienna, this may very well end the peace of Versailles which is the current governing regime of international stability. The world is going to fundamentally change. The 2008 great recession was shitty, but it didnt see people having to cower in the streets. There are going to be ramifications for this.

First and most obvious is that it's now make or break time for Donald Trump. He needs to prove the God Emperor meme true or else go down in defeat come november. He somehow manages to pull America out of this mess he is going to cement himself as one of our greatest presidents. Shrill shrieks to the contrary not withstanding. Failure on the other hand will doom his legacy along with the country. Our society is just not cohesive enough to survive a second great depression I fear.

No matter what happens though we are heading for a time of unrest. If the US economy tanks, the entire world economy will fail along with the carefully crafted international financial system and supply chains. Global peace will also break down as everyone turns inwards to deal with chaos at home, opening the door to revanchist powers.

On the other hand if the US economy recovers you are going to see an absolute outraged American electorate. China is going have the blame placed squarely on it and the "wishing" for American manufacturing to return home will be changing to demand. Which will disrupt supply lines and again, the international financial system. No way the genie gets put back in the bottle this time. Especially when the stories of people dying for want to equipment and medicine made only in china starts getting play. And as the global economy burns the two largest superpowers find themselves in an escalating diplomatic row.

No matter what happens, the world as we knew it is ending. We are living in interesting times

Outside China:

134819 confirmed / 5508 dead / 13558 recovered

116065 / 4675 / 12042 yesterday

Iran:

17361 confirmed /1135 dead / 5389 recovered

16169 / 988 / 5389 yesterday

USA:

7786 confirmed / 118 dead / 106 recovered

6362 / 108 / 17 yesterday

Ok, not sure how the jump to 106 from 17 happend. John Hopkins before today listed US recoveries in for individual states or cities. I thought the numbers were low because we knew that people had been discharged from the bio containment center in nebraska and there was no nebaska or omaha listing they must have been counted under the Diamond Princess listing.

Today there is just a total USA number, no city or state, its a hell of alot higher then the total was yesterday, bio containment hasnt had or released people in numbers to account for it and last but not least the Diamond Princess numbers are still there and unchanged from the past week. Thats all I know.

I'm sus about the recovered but at the same time it does make sense. If the disease has a fairly standard course for time you are sick and tends to occur in bunches (one person infects their close contacts the most) than you could definitely end up with a large group being tested and found to be recovered all at once.

Either that or the labs are backlogged to the point that recovery will happen in batches with those who're self quarantining being kept so for an extra couple days as they work through it.

I just hope I can keep my PC through all of this. I just built the poor thing.

If the last week was the "calm before the storm" then I am starting to see the outer rainbands now.
A friend has a family member who is in ICU with pneumonia. Not looking good. Male 60s. Awaiting test results.
Another friend of a friend has a family member in the same hospital with pneumonia and confirmed coronavirus. Late 60s.

Don't tell me every single fucking person that got infected or knows anybody who is infected will be shitting in this thread to make sure the entire farms knows that they or their sister's uncle is infected, it's already virtually impossible to follow. If you are infected - post a link to your suicide livestream or GTFO.

No we aren't. Going to power level a little bit. I work in a service industry. My boss currently thinks this whole thing is a conspiracy to remove Trump from office. So in true exceptional individual fashion he's in the office sick as shit coughing all over the place and I am just waiting for the government to close us down and quarantine everyone.

With any luck conservatives will end up being a self-correcting problem.

Here are Chinese police and army medics ensuring that health services are provided in rural mountainous regions

You can tell how 110% staged this is by the fact they're wearing surgical masks out in what appears to be the middle of fucking nowhere. Vladimir fucking Putin stages better shit than this trash.

Literally dying to own the libs.

I just got back to work after my vacation, and they immediately told 2 guys to quarantine because they went to a city with confirmed cases. Beyond that most of us are just going through the days as normal. Only real difference is we have one dude who keeps saying he isn't worried because "the guy upstairs has his back." Funny thing is he's one of those born-again types with a history of drug use and jail time so his body has been pretty fucked.

This John Arbuckle-looking mother-fucker has the weirdest micro-expressions and he's got some of the deadest eyes I've seen for a long time now. It's like watching a hollow bag of flesh lecture me about why I'm not allowed to use certain words because the CCP rammed its hand up his ass to make him parrot the Party's talking points.

"The virus does not speak Chinese." Yeah, no shit Sherlock. The Ebola Virus didn't speak Ooga Booga but we still called it fuckin' Ebola now didn't we? Funny how now that something's sprung up that can smear egg on the Party's face, all of you ghouls get up-in-arms about semantics.

He does know that God only promises to save your soul, and that what happens to your body is ultimately immaterial. God isn't going to re-wire physics so that some ex-druggie can put himself into a deliberately dangerous situation, thinking that his speed-dial connection to Heaven is going to keep Nature from taking its course...

Their cozy way of life (and wallets) are being threatened. Isn't it such a shame that they've overused their trump card of calling bigotry? Doesn't control people nearly so well as it used to do so.

Here's what I got from CureMilquetoast's post. Thanks for the great maps.

CONCLUSION People with blood group A have a significantly higher risk for acquiring COVID-19 compared with non-A blood groups, whereas blood group O has a significantly lower risk for the infection compared with non-O blood groups.

Interesting, if correct. Have a hard time believing anything out of China.

The live feed has the USA at 9197 cases and 150 dead - for a nation of 335 million. Looking at the CDC's latest weekly report, they estimate at least 36,000,000 "regular" flu illnesses, 370,000 hospitalizations, and 22.000 dead, since 29 September 2019, not quite six months.

My thought - the longer the draconian anti-WuFlu measures remain in place, the sooner people are likely to start blowing them off.

Any evidence for this blood type argument? That sounds like wishful thinking but I am happy to be wrong.

I don't think that people are likely to "blow off" social distancing measures, for the simple reason that government officials are making it almost impossible to do so.

However I do think that once there is an efficient testing method and they find that most people become asymptomatic carriers, and they figure put who will die from it, things might return to normal slowly but surely.

I mean, some people are going to die. They know it and we know it. The issue (I THINK) comes down to keeping enough ICU beds available to those who can be saved, with support.

There's just something darkly amusing about the fact that a tiny, beyond microscopic organism (arguably not even that much, more like an infectious entity, viruses are strange) is single-handedly overturning the entire world order as we know it. For all our advances in science, knowledge and technology, all it took was a single, random piece of what's basically an organic hacking malware to fuck everything over for who knows how long.
