Lots of people do. Especially when you are female or single female parent (where a lot of discrimination is aimed at), or have children or have enough intelligence to understand your legal "injuries" and do something about it. L
ots of people simply suffer legal injuries with no clue as to their rights and just "take the hit".
Add to that a divorce, custody issues, or having children and you'll find yourself in court very easily.
For example...
Court appearances as a child
- 1996 - I testified in a child sexual abuse case on behalf of a friend in which the man got jail time
- 1999 - I had to appear in a foster care case
Pro-se cases as an adult
- 2010 - I defended myself against a PO. Case was dismissed, in my favor.
- 2011 - I finalized my divorce successfully, including $300/alimony a month
- 2011 - Visitation battle, ruled in my favor
- 2012 - I protected my children by filing for the termination of my ex's vistiation rights, outcome in my favor
- 2014 - Another custody battle, fought pro-se, outcome in my favor
- MOST IMPORTANT LEGAL VICTORY EVER: 2014 - I sued my University financial aid office for discrimination, outcome in my favor ($5,000)
- 2014 - Sued a guy for a PO, ruled in my favor
- 2015 - Got a ticket for speeding (paid the fine, moved on with life)
- 2015 - (Federal) Sued The Stalker under a criminal statute; dismissed for lack of jurisdiction
- 2015 - Sued a landlord for fraud, ruled in my favor ($450)
- 2015 - Sued a hotel for bed bugs, rule in my favor ($2,000)
- 2015 - Sued by an electric company, I owed the money so I just paid and didn't show up to court
- 2016 - Sued a landlord for unlawful diminuition of services, ruled in my favor, judge issued an order to restore services
- 2016 - Sued by a landlord, ruled in my favor
- 2016 - Sued by a landlord; default judgment for the landlord because I didn't show up to court/didn't get notice/I abandoned the property due to unsafe hornets/didn't appeal
- 2017 - Sued the Stalker for a PO, ruled in my favor
- 2017 - (Federal) sued the Stalker for copyright violation; dismissed for lack of registration (but the legal gain here was my case set a precedent for the 4th district. Prior to me there was no case law and my case was cited by others)
- 2017 - (Federal) Sued Medicaid for discrimination; Judge gave them sovereign immunity
- 2017 - (Federal) Sued CPS for discrimination; judge gave the sovereign immunity (but the legal gain here was my case set a precedent for the 4th district. Prior to me there was no case law)
- 2017 - Petition to purge malicious CPS records - ruled in my favor in the first hearing but then dismissed because I withdrew the case for lack of time to continue it
- 2017 - (Federal) Sued for injunction and extradition of warrant; dismissed for lack of jurisdiction
- 2017 - Sued a landlord for fraud; dismissed because I was ...20 minutes...late!
- 2018 - Filed for name change for minor children, had to overcome major service issues and due to my knowledge of service requirements, ruled in my favor
- 2018 - filed for a PO against a neighbor, ruled in my favor
- 2018 - Sued under telephone law and it was dismissed because my pleading stated my legal knowledge that: it was past the statute of limitations
- 2019 - filed for a PO against a neighbor, ruled in my favor
- 2017-2019 - (Federal) Cases against Kiwi Farms; dismissed
- 2019 - Traffic ticket ("Failure to secure") - due to my legal knowledge and pleading skills, ruled in my favor
- 2020 - Sued by landlord; Pending in The Supreme Court of Virginia
I think there may have been another federal case? Just can't remember at the moment. All these experiences have added to my legal education. Learn from one case and it helps be successful in another
2 speeding tickets in 17 years of driving. Not bad.
