Well fuk
A coworker of my spouse might have Corona
If they test positive I will get everyone in the house tested. I'll know by friday.

Does anyone have any info yet on how this might be spreading? Is it airborne or purely direct contact? Theres so much of this thread to go through and so many reports to catch up on. It's making me dizzy

-update: negative on the test. But I did get some sort of cold.
This is the worst year for me, I've been majorly sick 3 times! Normally its once every other year.

Senate Republicans have unveiled their relief plan for dealing with this mess.

Cash payment of 1,200 dollars per person
500 dollars for dependent children
Full stop delay of all tax payment for the 2019 tax year until October of 2020 with no penalties.

A non-interest loan to all companies under 500 employees up to 10 million dollars

Now here is the big one. The Government will also offer to buy stock options in all businesses up to 425,000 dollars. To include private small businesses. In return, the US Government will be entitled to a share of future profits in the businesses commensurate to its stock stake in the companies for the next 2 years or until the buy in is fully discharged. Basically you can sell stake in your small business to Uncle Sugar for the next 2 years, and after those 2 years you can buy back the difference in the stock if Uncle Sugar has not made back in full what was given.

And assorted cash payouts to hard hit industries like the airlines.

Total appropriation is 1 trillion dollars.

Temporary purchase of parts of the means of production, but as long as it's optional, it's not violating the NAP, right?

Jesus christ. Never thought I'd see the day.

Also, DSP is going to be loving this. The fucking pigroache's 99 luck stat winning once again.

They let the Army have Merit Badge Sashes now?

Nah, that's for visibility so nobody runs them over. Seriously. Looking at the black soldier's hat, the rank indicated is not a regular Army rank, more like a Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) rank. Tells me ROTC cadets have been mobilized to help in this crisis.

US:
191 deaths
108 recoveries

I recall early in the thread talk of China's numbers and comparing deaths vs recoveries being important.
Why more deaths than recovered? Is it just too early in to see recoveries?
Recovery seems to take 3-4 weeks, whereas the vulnerable populations are dying of Corona in the span of a few days. Accurate death/recovery numbers wont be available until the disease has run its course.

Here's a rundown of the Swedish response to the Chinese Virus (subtitles available):

"The Corona Pandemic: What do the reactions to the crisis say about the Swedish culture?"

I don't think he blinks once through the video and his body language is very artificial. Creepy.

And the improving weather seems to be relaxing people's discipline somewhat, although I'm hearing dissonant reports about this. Pictures of empty streets on one hand, stories of crowded parks on the other. Definitely more people outside where I live, but then our city is still almost completely untouched (the only person confirmed to be infected offed himself yesterday).

To add to that, yesterday I went out for a short walk, there are definitely fewer people in the streets so it makes those who are stand out more, and these are runners/joggers, cyclists, teenagers (schools are closed) and the homeless, beggars and alcoholics. All of them tend to gather in traditional places for a relaxing walk or a picnic. On the plus side, there are no traces of last week's panic in the stores: the shelves are full. Also, our PM was interviewed by CNN, but nothing really new or interesting was said. And the biggest producer of sanitizers in the country which delivers most of the production to hospitals reports suffering from a shortage of resources which could put their production on hold during the next few days.

In the uk,today i had pop into a smallish villages GP office to grab some forms, got to the door it was covered in signs saying to stay away/if you think u have crona-chan go home ect ect, only people allowed in are those pre-triaged over the phone by a nurse, door is closed and locked. They even doing presription pick ups via makeshift drive through

An old person with their carer/daughter was waiting outside had rang the buzzer and had waited 5-10mins by the time i got arrived,i waited with them for 5 mins till someone opened the door. Was a nurse in PPE,she had relocked the second door behind her before opening the main door, she looked stressed as fuck too.

Was a fucking weird experience honestly 🤨

I think at this point the the hardcore libertarians are all hiding in their prep bunkers and won't be around to screech about this. Because holy shit this essentially means the US Government is about to nationalize the economy. We've not done this since World War 2.

Gavin Newsom said that 56 percent of Californians may get the Coronavirus in the next 8 weeks. He was actually talking about the homeless community, but the media isn't being clear on it and is making it seem like the entire popularity of California.

Journalism at its best.

Edit: If you didn't guess it by now, yes, CNN twisted the story around.

I think only Trump can pull this off since he's not a professional politician. Bush was a moron who was led around by Cheney and Obama was a spineless wuss who should have nationalized the banks on a temporary basis but he gave them free money and we got fuck all.

This kind of talk and shaming will kill people. Keeping one's interactions with the outside world to the bare minimum will save lives - meaning getting supplies for couple of weeks, so one does not have to go out, is a responsible and sensible thing to do. Fuck the Karen, or random granny who at worst hast to starve or use her old socks to wipe her ass for 3 days and can get her specific brand of mince meat, she absolutely has to have, couple of days later.
A couple of weeks ... not two years worth.

I think that you misunderstand me ... if people were only buying for this week and next, grocery aisles would not be picked clean. We don't all buy the same products either. So entire aisles should not be empty. You would have SOME shortages but not this kind of drama.

It is also surprising that People (in general) don't have an extra two weeks of food, on hand. I have yet to meet a householder who does not have surplus food stored in their pantry, at least here in the States. Stuff accumulates and you end up with all kinds of random stuff in your cabinets.

I know that the situation is different for people living in cramped quarters, with a range top, microwave and micro-fridge.

Sounds like the ministry can fix this with a single decision, so I think they will. Would be incredibly stupid not to.

I hear the Czechs will be buying supplies from China (not alcohol, but protective wear and tests) and we were supposed to get something from them too, any news on that?

And he's gotten the REPUBLICANS to do it. The political compass has decided to fuck off and die over this.

Does not matter, this kind of talk discourages all preparation and will kill people, just because there is 0,001% of people, who get too much toilet paper, is not an excuse to advocate people to potentially kill themselves by going to shop too often.
Your just-in-time access to TP is not as important as people's lives. Learn to do without or prepare like sane people.

Warren blurs out Chinese, Twitter troll helps her out by fixing it.

Government is about to own a whole lot of failing businesses...

edit: read the article, and either it's changed or you've misread it because this isn't in there.
