Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Real question: Just what is everyone so afraid of about this virus? It can't just be because it's so new, there's no herd immunity. Why're we panicking so much over a stronger flu virus when they both can cause pneumonia? Only some of the population is most at risk, everyone else's immune systems will stave it off.

It scars lungs, yes, but who's really using those lungs to their full capacity, like singers and athletes? Those folks who rely on their lungs being strong should be the ones who worry most, because they could have their careers ended if they can't breathe right. The old people are going to die sooner or later, they tend to be pretty chill about their mortality.

Anyway I'm super far behind which is fine because even though I haven't been keeping up to date with it, I've been feeling pretty calm, which is good. Anyway, Arizona's governor Doug Ducey activated the National Guard yesterday (to help in the grocery stores and food banks). So there's that to add to the pile.

Strap them down and take the swab by force. These old fucks are potential carriers, fucking entitled boomer assholes

Fucking 152 Detroit police officers were quarantined after 5 officers tested positive for corona. This could get ugly.
Having a problem means that one has to expend energy and resources for solving the said problem. One may believe that one's problems multiply, should one be presented by multiple problems at the same time, but it's often exactly the opposite - you can sometimes divide your problems instead - cancelling them out totally or at least diminish the harmful outcomes.
Problem 1: Chinese Wubonic Plague is infecting everyone
Problem 2: Police forces too busy, arresting people dangerous, dealing with offenses, normally considered major, has to be postponed or even overlooked
Problem 3: Some members of your police force have the Chinese Great Cough Forward Ailment.
An obvious (and wrong) choice would be to quarantine the officers currently experiencing the Communist Lung Herpes and everyone who was in contact with them.
A real solution would be put them on streets and let it to be known, that the officers afflicted with Rice Noodle Rickets would be doing the ticketing and arrests - anyone afraid of the Kung Pow Fever would think twice before turning to crime.

KILLER DRUG ON THE STREETS

Post Staff

Acetaminophen, or APAP, commonly known by the street name "old doghair" or "hangover healer", is a highly dangerous drug that can kill in just four doses. The drug, commonly used to cut opioids, is known to mimic the action of steroids and can cause accute liver failure in doses as low as six grams. An anonymous source at the CDC told us that this narcotic poison is abused by millions of americans every day, often as part of a crippling cycle of alcohol abuse.

"The facts are clear, [the drug] ... is potentially lethal."

President Trump is amongst those known to have consumed the drug.

And now we're going to try to convince everyone that Chloroquine is some sort of murder-drug even though thousands upon thousands of people take it every single day in the form of Hydroxychloroquine/Plaquenil as an immunosuppressive and anti-parasite drug. Yes, drugs can be lethal or even fatal if taken way above the prescribed amount. Thank you for being so helpful.

Bloom((berg))

No but seriously, this shit is ridiculous. They are legitimately just obviously trying to drive hysteria, panic and outrage at this point and these are not things that anyone needs right now anywhere in the world.
I must say, watching Trump tear into that one reporter earlier was refreshing. His stance on the media's meddling and bullshit has been refreshing all along to me. Every other president that I've seen speak would just take shit from them all the time and answer obviously loaded questions in good faith.

I mean the guy is being unexpectedly forthcoming and honest about this shit and seems overall cautiously optimistic, but the media just keeps screaming: "ORANGE MAN BAD!" at the fucking wall hoping it will grow ears some day.

As someone else said, nobody really gives a fuck about politics right now, we're in the midst of a crisis and by shitting on everything even still and just continuing the same stupid shit they've been doing for the past four years, the media and their [mostly] Democrat handlers are doing themselves and ESPECIALLY the public a grave disservice. This shit most certainly isn't what we need right now and to be frank we didn't fuckin' need this endless TDS sperging for the past four years either.

A lot of drugs are pretty fucking deadly if taken at a dose of 2 grams. Some medications are dosed in fucking MICROGRAMS. Actually I'd bet you there's more drugs and medications than not that would cause harm if you took a dose of two grams. Nobody's panicking over that shit. Acetaminophen can start causing liver damage at sustained doses of 1500 grams or more, nobody's acting like Tylenol is some kind of poisonous murder drug. Some drugs when taken with other contraindicated medications or with certain pre-existing conditions can kill you pretty god damned fast, likewise nobody is saying any of those are an execution drug. That's why being a pharmacist or a doctor or a pharmacologist isn't easy, these people have to study for fucking years to figure out exactly how these substances work and what they're contraindicated with. I'll trust the people who know what the fuck they're talking about over some pencil-necked paper-pusher at fuckin' CNN any day. Additionally, Trump nor anyone else ever said that chloroquine was a perfect solution or that it was some kind of panacea. All I heard said was that they're considering it, using it for people who are already bad-off anyway and trying to analyze the results.

In this situation this kind of nihilistic bullshit is just unnecessary and malicious. This isn't some god damned experimental boner pill that we should wait around beating our dicks waiting on the FDA to get off their asses and allow it to come to market. This is a crisis scenario and this is a very well studied medication. They've been working with like substances since 1820 at the earliest and chloroquine itself was discovered in 1934. This thing isn't experimental or new and unusual, and we don't exactly have all of the time in the world to sit around with our thumbs up our asses waiting for the powers that be to make a decision.

(Christmas Island, where criminal border invaders are sent to)

I just spent way too long trying to figure out what the hell the thing in the middle of that flag is supposed to be (some kind of banana slug or something?) before realizing it's just a silhouette of the island.

You know ... This is where I'm going to stick up for Millennials for once. My generation, from what I've seen, appears to be scared shitless for their loved ones/parents and are actually taking this very seriously for the most part (obviously there are some exceptions). Most of my friends are checking in with each other, all of us giving each other updates on our parents and whatnot.

Boomers have a "fuck it" attitude, and Zoomers are celebrating this, treating it like a vacation or just being straight-up malevolent about it.

Nobody is trying to take anybody's freedom away. This is simply a plea for everyone to help their communities and help their fellow man in a time of unprecedented crisis.

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." These values have been long since lost, apparently. This is people being straight-up selfish; this isn't due to a lack of education or information. The public has been widely informed about what's going on, and what people need to do to stay safe. There's no excuse.

Some interesting numbers...

It would be interesting to recoup all millions of users lost from each China telecom / mobile companies to have some clues...

Wouldn’t be surprised. My partner works for a major regional power utility and this is standard protocol when there are major storms, etc. Partner is currently working crazy hours in the field, haven’t seen him in days. Folks at the utility who can work at home are doing so, but there are a ton of jobs that just have to be done in the field.

So why does Germany only have 68 deaths yet almost 20k cases?
From what I understand they use sneaky numbers, if people had any underlying issue they say that killed them instead of wuflu. The 68 there are deaths they could find nothing else to blame for. Other countries take Wuflu as the primary COD and thus their reported numbers are bigger.

I don't think there will be any new announcements, so we end the day with 70 new confirmed infections, and since two cases from yesterday turned out to be false positives, we're at at grand total of 425, with a daily growth of under 20% and only two more cases than yesterday's +68. Our growth curve is currently the slowest among all major countries in Europe, I think, slower even than among our Czech brothers. And this is before the restrictions imposed thus far are supposed to be taking full effect. I'm cautiously optimistic. Maybe we can do this. (cue my hopes being shattered before the week ends).

In the meantime a state of epidemic has now officially been declared. This does not change much in practice. Schools closed for four more weeks or so, some additional powers given to the ministry of health, a few more restrictions as to what shops can stay open, higher penalties for breaking quarantine (almost nobody does, but the dicks who do really need to feel it).

I'm probably going to sound unnecessarily pompous, but this is it. We have the chance to prove that national cohesion and sense of responsibility can see us through a major crisis. It's a small hope, but always something to cling on to. I wish the same to everyone else, let's not screw this up.
