On the one hand, China has a long and interesting history, a fun mythology, tasty food(referring to chinese food places in the US/West in general here, obviously), some very attractive women, some insightful philosophy(so I've heard anyway) and appealing works of art, sculpture and architecture. Third parties as in the funds that manage stocks. Also people taking money out of stock market at that point was not uncommon, even I told all my friends to get out stocks immediately. Calling this insider trading is a yuuge stretch.

UK's doing plenty by this point and we're nowhere near italian levels of stupidity thanks to their "hug a chink" campaign.

The herd immunity strategy was the one used for Swine Flu previously and the death rate on that collapsed. The factors of the school holiday seemed to slow the rate of infection, which is why the schools closed now, but likely earlier than the government originally wanted (I suspect the original plan was get to Easter in April, then stay closed after that).

UK businesses seem to be responding relatively well but there's been teething troubles with the usual change from working in an office to remote home working. Friend of mine is in a call centre, but it's attached to "key worker" functions in a big, big way so he's one of the lucky one who still has to go in.

Same with the 1400 companies who've stepped up to the plate and are changing their manufacturing capability to make more respirators, and masks.

But every time we get the media being irresponsible whinging bastards. The government giving out a call to arms to UK manufacturers was actually mocked. By the good old twats at the BBC making sure to find the one company with a practical monopoly on them at present to say it would be "too difficult."

But instead 1400 companies looked at it, and put up their hands including Rolls Royce and Jaguar-Land Rover.

They're like that here too. They only let groups in for like an hour at a time or something. My mother also almost got into a fight with a chink because the store here put a limit of one thing of toilet paper per person and the other woman tried to take 3. It was really funny.

What is wrong with people? Hope you get your flour. I haven't seen this kind of thing in my country yet. Politicians warn against bulk buying like every five minutes and while people still buy a lot, I have not seen any worrisome shortage of products, except disinfectant which seems to be permanently out of stock everywhere. I can only speak for my rural region though. Don't know about bigger cities.

Germany has a new campaign, "We stay at home"/"Together against Corona", asking people to stay home and follow hygiene and distancing instructions and help the vulnerable/elderly. Lots of celebs made videos for it already. I kinda like it.

Shopping and delivery services for the elderly citizens spring up everywhere. I saw a lot of ads for these services in the newspaper yesterday. Local businesses (like bookstores, etc.) that had to close, now offer delivery, too. It's pretty cool. Like Amazon, except you support local businesses.

If you're going to buy something you don't think will be completely sold out, the late afternoon is usually calmer in most places, because people know the "hot ticket" items will be sold out by then.

Everyone wants the mid shifts now at my old job now because that's when there are fewer customers who might kill them with their diseased coughs.

It was like this in other nearby shops. I gave up and will try again in the evening. Hope you are right and its less busy.

I'm pretty well stocked on food in general so can hunker down for a while. Its just annoying that these idiots are stripping the shops bare. Supply lines have not been disrupted, just do your normal shopping and leave enough produce for others you bunch of mongoloids.
