Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Marvel wasn’t done.

"Oh FUCK, how do we get out of this giant hole we've dug ourselves?"
"DIG DEEPER!!"

In this order:

1. Character is not what app they use; it's a trait about them. When even my low thought no effort shitposts can do more with the New New Warriors than this, you failed as a writer.
2. So creative to make bootlegs of re-established characters to make them sidekicks. Are you some 100+ year old men from WWII or something?
3. It's telling they think the X-men need sidekicks. Moreso they don't put them in Generation X or X-Force or something.

It's so shit I ain't able to fix this, GG Marvel you suicidal sandwiches.
Please fucking don't... They've been through enough. Every time an X-Force comes out and it sucks I have to re-read the originals and the 2010's run with Kyle and Yost.

Not really. Quitting CG, although it involved being disowned & publically disavowed, is the best thing I've done in ages.

I no longer have to do the mental gymnastics to justify your and WC's behaviour.
I no longer have to believe the dodgy numbers and lies about the enemy of the week
I no longer watch who I talk to on twitter lest I violate one of the shunnings.
I no longer have to keep paying the tithes, in finance and attention, to low-energy streamers.
I no longer have to support shitty, second rate comic-books because...loyalty.

It's just a shame it took over two-years to see the light. Since leaving CG a month ago I've:

Chatted with a wide range of people, and not had to watch my tongue once.
I've gone full-autist sorting my 2k+ indie comics collection, and got into retro-reads of lots of gems from the 80s & 90s.
Done loads of drawing.
Backed two comics on KS....and received them already
Picked up Dynamite's Red Sonja - Age of Chaos (which is awesome.)
Been able to look at myself in the mirror without feeling sick.

Let me put this in simple terms. CG is a comics movement for people who hate comics. It has no respect for the history of the medium, for the indie scene, for the love of sequential art, for their LCS. It's for people who want to call themselves comics fans but only want to read five-or-so also-ran books a year.

Being involved with CG actually stopped me loving comics, everything was problematic, everything was drama, everything was political. It was like I'd suddenly found myself under the influence of Anita Sarkeesian.

Getting out has re-kindled my love of comics.

The fact that I allow myself a little time every week to challenge FROG on a medium that he can't block me from (after quote tweeting me to get his beta-bois to fight on his behalf) may be a little indulgent....but hey you have to do something during social isolation.
Your story sounds eerily similar to mine, except mine occurred in late 2018. I stopped following CG for the most part then only checked it out sporadically like during the Nerkish gay op and again recently when The Quartering reminded me CG even still existed a few weeks ago. I've still backed some CG creators here and there namely Jawbreakers Godking, Lonestar 2 and Graveyard Shift 2 but cut way back from what I was backing in 2018.
That's because Gail Simone is a boomer and wouldn't know how to sign up for this forum.
Besides, she'd be too much of a coward to sign up and face her detractors anyways.

TikTok?
A moderator for r/mutant?
A cosplayer? Let me guess, it's the "Gambit" of the team.
"mutant music"? The hell is that?!

It's like they picked out the worst parts of zoomers, waded it up, and threw it at the public, saying "How do you, fellow kids?"
This is going to fail and fail hard.
I guess Ethan does deserve credit where credit is due. Although he probably should have spent more time updating his IGG's and responding to comments there rather than here.

As for this whole Safespace, Snowflake and now Children of the Atom garbage, it is kinda a slap across the face to Comicsgate. Back in 2018 it seemed that CG was at least having some effect on the Big 2. Axel Alonso was given the boot, there was that Marvel higher up who even admitted that diversity was selling poorly and when C.B took over they axed a bunch of the SoJus comic books. Marvel even seemed to improve the writing on some of their flagship titles, heroes returned to the true selves and even the writers on twitter muzzled themselves.

If Safespace and Snowflake aren't two giant middle fingers to Comicsgate basically telling them "we heard you and we don't care", then I don't know what else is. Problem is I guess the LCS's will pay the price for it, which supports the theory I've seen recently that Marvel wants to destroy the direct market and control retail of their products themselves.

What market? Literally nobody wants to buy this absolute shit. Even the people they're ham handedly pandering to think it's garbage. This is like introducing two black superheroes and calling them Captain Spade and Nigger Boy and they power up by smoking crack and their special powers involve stealing cars and rape.

Whatever stunt Marvel was going for with New Warriors, it doesn't seem to be turning out the way they wanted. Their big "middle finger" is getting the attention of outlets that had never even heard of Comicsgate before, and rallying "adjacent" guys like Peter Simeti and retailers under the CG banner as they watch Marvel deliberately destroy their business. Any argument that the mainstream is improving and Comicsgate no longer being needed is out the window as well. Even the socjus crowd is complaining that Marvel is "validating all the stuff those fucking comicsgaters are saying." Not to mention Ethan's going full blast these days after the success of Cyberfrog 2.

Just another poor attempt to use outrage as marketing and to attract the Social Justice/Progressive crowd that also hates it as well (too bad it appeals to no one). The comic industry is just a lost cause that I wrote it off years ago that doesn't give a shit about the fanbase. I only feel bad for comic book shops who primarily sell new comics and the sane comic pros and CGers who just want to make and read decent comics with no drama attached.

EVS is probably going to be flexing extra hard after they fell flat on their face with their sad attempt at a "take that."

38year store is dead as they can't handle 3 weeks of shutdown. RIP even smaller stores.
Comics retailer Lee Hester has announced the closure of his Mountain View, Calif. comic store Lee's Comics. On Monday Hester announced that he was closing for three weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the following day he amended his statement saying "we are closed for good."

If pro's were planning on having Amazon save their arse then that plan is up the shitter too, as they are suspending non-essentials delivery.

They've driven away so much of the market all they can do is pander harder to what little they have left.

That was the crux of the theory. I can't remember where I heard it, possibly from Zacks channel years ago. The idea was that Marvel was deliberately putting out subpar products with the intention of forcing customers away. The long term goal of such a strategy was to destroy the LCS's and Diamond. Disney has its own retail outlets and has its merchandise pretty much everywhere, but because of the distribution setup of Diamond, they are unwillingly chained to them. It's not my theory but I can see the merit in it., short term pain for the long term gain of getting rid of Diamond and not being tied to the current model of the direct market. Profit margins overall would increase if Diamond and the LCS's were gone, it would be essentially getting rid of two middlemen.

So cash grab was the spite campaign all along, i wonder if this is on the lines of copyright infringement or defamation, like it's very on the nose and the worm looks exactly like Tenaple. It's sad that evs and CG can't let Doug go, every stream is a big therapy session of "Doug man bad" and his streams can only get 1.2k viewers. Can @FROG and Cecil (who blatantly stole the design and look of Don DeLuise's character from cannonball run) can get rid of his hate boner off of Doug? Like Doug actually praised Ethan's success on Nick's stream and cg is still on his ass.

I don't care that Doug or Mike are homophobic, I just wanted them both to keep it to themselves while they were actively appearing on ComicsGate Live livestreams. Afterall, Doug got a bunch of SJW's attacking him for misgendering someone and I was fully aware of it before I even started promoting BIGFOOT BILL.

The point isn't to have any one set of beliefs or politics, it's just to Sell The Hotdogs.

Ro isn't a creator, he's a YouTuber and a superfan. He can do or say whatever he wants.
Wc has a comic so they are creator or did you forget ? If you don’t care what they do just say so stop the bs.

It make me think that OG comicsgate made a strategic error in thinking they could change the industry by directly targeting it. YaBoi makes a good point when he said that if comics were returnable this shit would sort itself out in 3 months, because none of these so-jus comics would make it past issue 2 if that was the case. So OG comicsgate time would have been better spent courting and organizing the retailers to force the issue of returns.
The impression I got - though I haven't rechecked the early days of the thread to see - is that there was a bit of a groundswell to try and get the retailers to do something about how the current model was fucking them over. But it got derailed by numerous factors, including: disorganisation, SJW owners making it a moral stance, anti-CG types applying pressure Mark Waid-style, financially and morally, threats of boycotts, and a general inability to focus on one issue that all these sorts of movements have.

Having one specific goal is always a good idea for a movement, but considering the people involved were much more creatives and critics rather than the store owners themselves, it's unsurprising that something actively confronting the major comics market rather than learning to work outside it didn't stick as a purpose.

Just buy old comics and manga if you need your "comic fix" that much. Screw Marvel, DC, and EVS's-CG.
Eh, I MIGHT buy Reignbow Brute, but only because I really do like coming of age stories where family who struggle to get each other try to find a common ground. The gay ops, doubletalk on Ro (he's a creator you backed Ethan, you can't deny his Vestige book and not look like a lying ass, sorry) and the tribalists did make me lose a lot of interest tho.

I think I'm mostly sticking to Zack and any others that draw interest for me, like Ernst since I liked his Soulfinders book. Black and White was also pretty fun and I hope they don't delay as hard. And yes, Doug and Malin's work are also on my menu, so long as the latter doesn't brag about drinking wolf semen.

By the way, not the biggest fan of Nerdrotic (because I get tired of him pretending he's a small struggling channel fighting big corporate; can't stand the constant persecution complex), but he really did say something about these new announcements that is something to be said: Marvel is announcing these suicide spite books RIGHT after a comic owner begged desperately for some relief since he will die if the shutdown lasts for as long as it seems it will, which is longer than 3 weeks.

Fun fact: only Image actually was nice enough to allow for returns for him in the face of this.

Well this is starting to get a bit serious for the industry. We could be seeing the actual collapse of the direct market or at least heavily crippled. I do feel bad about the shops who didn't buy into the culture war and just wanted good books to sell. First they get hit with woke trash that no one buys and this shut down will be the finishing blow for a number of them.

Doesn’t Amazon own Comixology?
Doesn't matter, digital sales for American comics are ass. Unless people suddenly decide they want some digital comics to hold them over, this changes nothing

Cecil just showed the "conclusion" to his comic trailer on an EVS stream

This is going to cause some drama. Implies sodomy to Tenaple.
Christ, this has the same energy as that writer who made Doug Ernst a villain in one of the Punisher issues. Move the fuck on already. It was sad then, it's sad here.
