Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

People in the usa are making masks and the 3d printing community is trying to figure out how to make a ambu bag into a ventilator. Because even though trump signed the defense preparedness act. But won't activate it. Nigger wtf? We'll activate when we need it. We need it now because by the time those ventilators and ppe are done it will probably be to late.

For people who don't know defense preparedness act, is basically Americans government ability to force manufacturers to build stuff. And we don't got the manufacturing we used to.

All the happening fags finally got their happening and what do they do? Go on 4chan to shitpost it's fake, its a nothingburger, the elites and government are just using it as an excuse to pass more laws, mark of the beast, etc. Some people are never happy unless they complain.

I'm terribly sorry if I'm late and gay to this, but has it already been discussed how India's numbers are, at the time of me writing this, so comparably low (332 infected and 5 deaths), while Italy and Spain for example are taking it in the ass, and not even in the Greek way?
Either we have achieved superpooper powers and are automatically immune to chink coof or we aren't reporting numbers. The latter however doesn't make sense we are meticulously testing everyone. But keep in mind, India is a place where the strong immune system(s) thrive. You can't live here long term unless you can survive malaria at the age of 5 (happened to me lol). Although I am a radiologist, I've taken an extended break from work and my boss hasn't called me back in to work so I assume things are fine... for now. Also we have a curfew in place and no foreigners can enter india.

I have no idea what goes into creating a ventilator and I won't pretend to be a doctor on the internet. (not again) The thing is though that I do know that they were never expected to be built in big amounts or quickly. Every device containing electronics that is expected to work in a medical setting goes through an insane amount of testing and parts-vetting. I do know that the electronic components in these devices themselves have to be certified to be used for medical devices and the testings and certifications are insane. It's really hard to be allowed to engineer and build a medical device, and I think most people would agree for good reason. I'm pretty sure in an emegency situation like this there are a lot of corners you can cut and a lot of red tape you can ignore to get some up to snuff quickly and the kinds of engineers working on such things (very smart people with often very nice salaries) are probably pulling all-nighters right now to optimize for quick production while still building something that's safe. I'm pretty sure there's lots of room for speeding up and what we'll know in a few weeks about building ventilators will dwarf what we know now.

Here's a question about France: what's the public attitude like? Are they treating the virus as a Chinese bioweapon or something where the country has a cucked response?

Here in the US, the media is pretending this is our fault for ignoring the situation until it got bad, blaming the Leader of the Free World for every confirmed case and the surfeit of testing kits..

I get the feeling our media is just running PR for the CCP. What's it like over there?

Ok, no there is no question about the origins of the virus, everyone points to China, be it in France or Belgium, they don't call it Chinese virus ( but coronavirus or covid 19) but the narrative has allways been that it came from Wuhan, as we got first cases in France directly from Chinese nationals being hospitalized here after fleeing wuhan around early january. So there is no confusion about that.

The media, be it left or right, have all questionned the need for relocalizing and their over dependance of China, but a lot of the media and government officials have huge interests in China tho, but they considered strongly renationalizing and bringing back factories around here, all throughout the end of february, then things started to change a bit when China numbers begun to look like they were controlling the quarantine, changing their "minds" slowly but surely "we just need to make strategic supplies but we shouldn't dismiss China , they seem to have controlled everything there, there is no spread, we should probably enforce quarantines like theirs etc..."

Now they are also questionning sometimes the numbers coming from China, a few medical experts that would be invited on to speak would point at the inconsistency and sometimes, calling it a lie, but these experts were not invited again on set.

The biggest bias we saw is that BFM tv / LCI hosts are often sucking China's cock for the great job they've done containing it, But never they questionned the origin of the virus, they have been hammering the news with "the wuhan virus" since the beginning so it would feel really weird if all of a sudden they would call it something else. (even tho they used both name at the beginning / wuhan virus and coronavirus, now it seems like they are more using the coronavirus and covid19 terms since it has been given this awfull official name by the who )

We suspect something more nefarious tho going on, Macron has been doing everything he can to rile up and get his people to act violently by being outrageously arrogant on all his response towards the population last year, and people grew more and more believing he actually fucking hate the French people, him and most of his government did very unpopular things and passing law with more than 70% of the people disagreeing / disaproving every shit he put in the law at every step and all throughout these past years, be it limiting the speed of some national roads (they are wider than usual roads but not as wide as full 4 / 8 ways, but still these are supposed to be roads you can drive on up to 100 Kmh) limiting them to 80 km/h (around 55 miles per hour) They imposed taxes on very basic living stuff, removed some help on electricity price, rose the price of gas, cut a lot of the unemployment benefits for people that struggle to find a job, removed the little financial help to people with small salaries / small revenue to pay their rent (it was a little help that was around 15 to 50 euros depending the case) , they reformed the help money couples get for every child and made it way smaller per child, they also brought down a lot of the local / regional services like train stations / closed some clinics, made it harder and harder for the middle class, and on top of everything they also have put into law the pension reform bill in the mid of the crisis of covid19 when it hit France with the mental number of 1000 infected, signing it into law a saturday when everyone was worried with the announcement of soft lock down the day before.

The problem with Macron and his government, is that they knew how bad the situation was in China from their 1st minister of Health that is as corrupt as the rest of them, she knew around the 20th december the situation in China (when most of us even paying attention discovered it around early january at most) She admitted to that in an interview and that exploded as a scandal, then if you look very well and closely at her husband he is one of the founder for some projects and fundings of the biolab in Wuhan along Charles Lieber and a few others, she not only knew she had top priority information from her Husband about what the situation was.

But the worst of it is : Despite knowing the situation the Macron government kept it shut, said it was not worse than the flu, that there was no need to protect yourself from it, even going as far, in early march( the 5 march) as setting an exemple and going to the theater with his old wife and sending the message to continue living, going to places, and enjoy life, also , even if the situation was really bad around the 14, and every other medical experts stating it was a bad idea sending mixed message about the soft lock down, Macron insisted people going to vote for the municipalities of Paris, endangering everyone going there and gathering, just offering the social distancing bullshit of "only 1 meter between people is necessary" when we all know the particles / droplets can travel 4 meters and a half, and you can get infected in 30 sec to 1 minute, he was stating that you need to be at only 1 meter away and it was taking at least 15 minutes to be infected.

From the admission of the former 1st health minister, Macron knew, his vice president knew, they almost "outlawed" the chloroquine / plaquinine / hydroxichloroquine from pharmacies, Agnès Buzyn signed it as a "venomous substance" in France the 13 january, then, on a TV set, there was an admission from a top head clinic official that all the plaquinine / hydroxichloroquine was "stolen" from every pharmacy of every hospital in France, they are gone, and they don't know when they disappeared, they don't use it as often, but every stock of this med disappeared all of a sudden, and most of these meds are locked behind digicodes with cards and shelves that closes with keys.

To add to this, some of the "government" masks delivery have been mostly stolen too (some say there were never any masks coming) the media just parrotted the government saying they have been stolen, and prior to that, we learned that Buzyn sent 17 Tons of medical supplies and Masks to China in early january despite knowing full well the scale and danger of the virus and that the 1 trillion mask H1N1 strategic stock of the france was now empty.

Macron is an ultra neo liberal, and has done a lot of harm to the country, hence why we saw hundreds of protests in France , yellow vests, lawyers, medical staff, pensioneers, almost 3 full year of protests every week end, and 3 full months of protest across the France for the pension reform.

The pension reform would liquidate the usual way the pensions allways worked in the country for almost 75 years to a "point based" pension reform half capitalised in state bonds and an "evoluting" value of the point saved by working through the inflation and how well, or bad the economy is doing, almost privatising in an very insecure way the pensions funds, it usually worked as a "saving" from all the taxes they saved up from workers, and as a very secure way to get an average pension that would benefit you depending of your degree, your field of work etc, based on merit, education, the status / type of work, if you do a job that pays more, you give more money to the state / country so you have obviously a pension that reflect your gift to society.... But this year they wanted to make a "universal pension system" and almost fuck everyone by lowering drastically all pensions from every field and have what i would call a communist wet dream of poor pensioneers that would have to search in garbage to meet end's month.

Personnally i never seen any government that accellerated the most nocive/ unsocial / anti worker / anti people laws and reforms i've seen this year, it's like they usually do it gradually you know, through 5 to 10 years of slowly boiling the frog but not force it like this, but with Macron, he just do it, do it, never stops, it's one unpopular reform after the other, without taking anything in account, no protests, no disapproval of the opposition, even if 70 to 80% of people are against it in the polls, he also has been elected by only 22% of voices in France, everyone was desillusionned of the election system, but if you vote "blank" it goes anyway to the one that has the most voice and they make it as if he was unanimously elected, wich is not the case, record numbers of abstentions and people just not giving a fuck and that's how he got elected.

But to answer your question, no, no one doubts it come from China, in the media, but they really praise China for their "control" of the quarantine but also , a weird thing, they start to criticize more and more the europe that sat on their ass all this time without help, what i also see as a trend is the praise for China sending masks and supplies, but in France, these supplies aren't even distributed to hospitals all across France, there are huge shortages, as if the government in place was waiting for a disaster to happen and health workers to deplete and get sick, everyday there are videos of medics completely desperate to get masks distributed or given from government. So much so the health head commissionner started asking the population for masks gift if people had some at house and people started to produce in home made masks and gloves for medics.

Probably the same reason the number of cases is low in Africa.

Well, what are the odds of hitting 100,000 deaths before this thing runs its course?

Probably already hit it.

That's the same advice I would give you too.

If you are short of breath, go to the hospital. If you are not short of breath God stay away.

Your symptoms may or may not be COVID-19. If you bumrush the emergency department right now then you probably will end up with worse stuff. Hospitals are insane germ factories.

I know you know this, but it's just what we're dealing with right now.

Also, PSA for people in this thread: please talk to your elderly family members about advance directives and DNRs. Being on a ventilator is not a fun experience. It feels like having a knife shoved down your throat.

When do you think that most of us will have been done exposed to this crap, and can move on with our lives?

Basically my doctor (she is the OB-GYN) told me that the very best thing that we (my family but probably some of you as well) is lock ourselves in the house and get a lot of rest. Don't leave the house unless it is mission essential.

As for the hospital, they are letting in ONE visitor per patient in L&D and ONLY in L&D. The days of wives and grandkids and aunt Tilly coming to see Uncle Harry after his Heart surgery, and shuffling in and out of his room with bacon cheeseburgers, Caesar salads, flowers and balloons, are suspended indefinitely. Visitors in L&D can come in ONCE and leave, but S/he can't be shuttling in and out between restaurants, parking structure, elevator and the patient room because apparently you bring in a bouquet of fresh germs with you every time you enter and exit. And you are standing there in the elevators breathing on people, increasing their exposure and yours.

So that is the long and short of it.

Basically she is saying that we just need to contain anything we might be infected with, and going out to the doctor adds to your general load and makes you more susceptible to Corona.

She also seemed less concerned that I would die of it, than of me getting THEM sick and bringing disease and hardship into their workplace.

I wish that we could see a physician about respiratory ailments but I get it ... I really do.

So basically one update to add to the general info on here ...

Probably already hit it.
I heard the reason Africa might not take the hit we are is that a good portion of their population is on antimalarial medication already, mostly hydroxychloroquine. Malarial is also common in parts of the Mediterranean so that could be the case there as well. It's just a theory at this point, one that is only viable if Plaquenil works on Corona-chan.

And here I thought it was their Wakandan tier healthcare system.

So does the HydroxiChloroquine thing have any merit to being a cure? It is just ringing alarm bells because China somehow knew this was a cure (which brings leads to it being a created bioweapon), but the same time, this is a virus. Viruses can't be really cured except kicked out by the immune system. Something real funky seems to be going on.
It's not a cure. The media latched onto that term.

The nerds on the internet think they're doing something useful.

Just let them. That's how they manage their anxieties.

Would I ever use a 3D-printed vent? No. Actually they're pretty fucking complicated to build. Did they account for spontaneous breathing? Positive pressure and negative pressure? Is this thing going to explode my patient's lungs immediately?

Who knows.

That seems very unwise. They do realize they're dealing with the world's most powerful military nation with a leader who is best described as somewhat quixotic, right? Also, Trump has checks and balances on his behavior at home but he could send in the troops overseas and have them active for 60 days before he needs a War Powers Resolution even in theory. And Peru's military is not going to be able to fight off the USA for 60 days.

I mean it'll probably be fine because Trump's got a lot other shit to deal with right now. Still, he's not a man to forget some country screwing over the USA or him any time soon.
Both countries control and have closed their airspace, whilst foreign nationals are within their borders. Nobody is a hostage. Why do you think Americans should fly home immediately, before a reciprocal flight of Peruvian nationals has been organised? Feels to me like Peru is insisting on some reciprocity, to be dealt with as equals rather than vassals to be commanded. America isn't quite as awesome as it once was.
