Doug does a fairly good job keeping away from social media drama. There have been some weird gaffes on his Facebook page (I distinctly remember him posting a picture of Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka the day Gene Wilder died with the caption, "Don't worry Wonka fans! I'm still here!" Which was in remarkably bad taste) but those are few and far between.

Doug's stupidity is constrained to his videos, both NC and the videos where he's just himself, where he'll spout off unbelievably bad takes on movies. That's nothing compared to Linkara's bizarre porn fetishes, Spoony's implosion, Lindsey getting a DUI and getting violent in the car, MarzGurl's involvement in the Weeb Wars, and JewWario being a rapist.

I mean, there was the video of him being so overly dramatic that he wrote on his chest "I quit" and then flashed it to his co-workers in the lunch room to music.

That video becomes more interesting the more time goes on because it was him quitting his day job to do Nostalgia Critic full-time. Just about everyone who was ever a part of TGWTG was ensorcelled by this idea that they'd be the new digital media superstars and Doug in particular wanted to be the figurehead of a disruptive new media empire.

Now all these years later CA is basically a shell of a company and Doug, while not starving, is pretty much stuck being Nostalgia Critic for the rest of his career unless a miracle happens. Makes me wonder who got the better of who in the end: Him or the wagies.

Doug's pretty questionable given that he had to run an IndieGoGo campaign just to keep the studio, and even then he barely had enough for the other projects which is why the game show died a miserable death. Of course he still has the studio so I'd say he's at least smart enough to keep things running.

Spoony and Linkara were most definitely not. Spoony hung by a thread with all the stupid fans that were giving him money on the off chance he'd produce content again and is actually in the process of getting foreclosed, while Linkara had to do a fundraiser livestream because he didn't have enough money to pay off his taxes.

That’s not much different than the shitposting on this site.

I mean yeah, but you have to remember the kind of people who watch Doug's stuff and Doug's normal sense of humor.

In regards to Channel Awesome and it’s position on “muh culture war,” Lindsay Ellis has stated that she left CA because she felt the Walkers and Michaud didn’t do enough to protect contributors during Gamer Gate nor were they comfortable hosting Gamer Gate related content. Given that CA was only hosting their material (none of them were under contract), I don’t see why they should feel the need to protect these people nor do I understand WHAT they could have done apart from telling them to stay off the Internet. As I’ve said before, ignoring Gamer Gate is one of the few smart things that CA has done. They are a comedy website making jokes (being charitable here) at the expense of silly movies. They don’t want to lecture their viewers about why they are wrong for liking things or why they’re liking the right things but in the wrong way.

Well yeah, Lindsay knew that. She wanted them mobilising CA's wider audience to help win her Twitter battles and was blangry she very reasonably got told to eat shit.

"They didn't help protect wammens from white supremacist gamers so I bravely went my own way" is such beautiful spin I can't help but be impressed given that she rode it to greater heights than she ever could've hoped for as a CA member.
