Chloroquine phosphate is as similar to hydroxychloroquine as sodium chloride is to sodium. Sodium chloride is wonderful for seasoning your food. Sodium in its pure form will burn your face off if you put it in your mouth. They drank fish tank cleaner because they're fucking idiots, and with a headline that misleading I lost whatever respect that I had left for Axios.

The Democrats voting against this stimulus bill seems especially stupid when it sounds like a lot of the Late Night shows have suspended productions during all the virus hysteria, so they've got fewer media personalities out and about to help push the party line and no Jimmy Kimmel to have go out and cry about whatever.

Kinda, the article says they where in their 60s and (well the article they linked in the article said that they) used fishtank cleaner.

Chloroquine phosphate is a legitimate medicine used to treat malaria, a possible treatment for coronavirus, they just decided to drink something that said "NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION" on the label instead of buying malaria pills.

EDIT:
Looking deeper I may have been confused by the wording the articles keep using. It is possible they had used legitimate pills and faced side effects. It is kinda hard to tell, some articles lean on "He drank fishtank bleach" while others suggest he took a pill.

Hydroxychloroquine sulfate is known to be a less toxic variant that is also effective against malaria. But hey, self-medicate away.

Also, the scene in V For Vendetta pops up, where it's the "all it takes is someone doing something stupid to ignite it" bit where the grafitti kid gets killed, and I legitimately don't see this going any way other than a massive amount of human suffering. Gulags to the left of us, Gulags to the right etc. It hardly matters how. The level of vitriol, irrationality, and insular thinking... the constant VILIFICATION of anyone who strays an iota from the groupthink... it's all an ideology of dehumanization. Similar to the pre-WW@ era of the USSR, under both Lenin and Stalin, as well as everything in the revolution from the first one in 1905 to 1917, when the Bolsheviks had ultimately liquidated or destroyed the democrats, social democrats, socialists, anarchists, workers, intelligentsia, and finally had the chutzpah to destroy the White Russians. I'm generally pretty optimistic and don't consider very much shit people do very serious, but I'm having a hard time seeing any way this will end well. Probably just faggoty cynicism on my part, but I was a kid in the sixties, and people's minds weren't OWNED to this level, nor was it so personal or was the dire idea of "I am at war with anyone who doesn't support me" anywhere I saw.

I couple of months ago, there was a sudden rash of several PTSD forums I go to telling people they weren't welcome if they were pro-Trump. I PMed admins, and my accounts were deleted. Today on FB, someone I know said anyone who called called it "The Chinese Virus" was a white supremacist. Pointing out that that has been a standard way of labelling these sorts of things for 150 years netted a drop in FB friends of somewhere in the range of 30-40. (Not like it matters, I can't think of who, so I obviously don't give that much of a shit>) It's all so ideologically rigid and punitive.

I dunno. I suppose it's just a day I'm having, but the divisiveness and discord and will to dehumanize based on ideology is like nothing I've seen in my life. I started noticing it seriously in 2016, but if I think back, the narrative was being fleshed out at least as early as the mid-eighties. The fact that this roaring machine hasn't even slowed down to take a breath during such a massively disruptive global pandemic doesn't bode well for the future, IMO.
