Well, considering how many of our deathfat cows have to use CPAP machines or sleep sitting up so they don't suffocate under their own lard, and considering how many of them also have beetus and high blood pressure, we stand to lose a whole subforum.

diabetes, hipertension, and practically every disease associated directly with obesity has been put on the list of "high risk" without any real reason. So I'mma bet fatties are dropping like flies and they just don't wanna go ahead and drop the bomb directly. Makes sense since this virus seems to afect lungs and heart and that's the area obesity fucks up the most. Skelies also have horrible metabolism so their hearts and lungs are shit, anorexia is practically like HIV, you become a risk group for EVERYTHING.

It makes you wonder how many people died in WWII because the experts steered the government into a policy like this. I mean the UK's side won, but then much of that was due to the fact that the Allies vastly outproduced the Axis and the Axis was even more dysfunctional in terms of information processing than the Allies were. The UK had Russian allies to provide the cannon fodder and American allies to provide all the materiel. Churchill could drink all the champagne he wanted and just let the system do its thing once he'd set the general direction.

If we choose to ignore the international medical community's advice, and people converge and their loads of all kinds of routine viruses increase, it will be harder to survive this pandemic.

This is not just the flu. Why is it soon damn hard, for Americans to follow the advice of people with advanced degrees in their fields? We really are a nation who believes that Forrest Gump could be the "Washington Outsider" to bring fresh insights into solving complex specialized problems.

Back to the pandemic ... you can only hope that you, your family members, or your friends will go quick, as gasp for air under a plastic bubble, begging for G-D'S or Satan's or the great microbial stew's mercy (whichever way you know you are going). And then, if you do recover, it might be with with a fucked up heart, compromised kidneys, banged up lungs, and a hospital discharge that includes a 12 month lease on life, set to expire when the next wave comes around.

And if you don't make it, you can spend some time waiting in the morgue where @cuddle striker or another cuddler, can carve you up, fighting back tears sweat and bile, while they process you and jam you into an already over stuffed freezer, until the county comes to bury you in a massive trench with people who you never would have associated with in this life.

May the strongest survive!

Or we can quit acting like over-entitled arrogant Americans, and actually manage this situation to keep Italy, Iran and China-like scenarios at bay.

Catch is, people just don't die quietly and politely evaporate, for the convenience of others.

Dying is a huge pain in the ass for the person who is dying, and for health care systems.

Grieving relatives are the biggest pain in the ass of all.

Medical care is also expensive as hell, especially heroic measures.

And then processing the death and disposing of the body is another massive pain in the ass. And huge expense if you are into that kind of thing and can actually afford it.

As a point of reference, how many pallbearers does a deceased adult male require?

So all of this is a huge shit sandwich.

IIRC the Chinese showed some proficiency in disposing massive amounts of dead (and some not quite dead) bodies earlier in this thread.

Since our media seems to want us to follow China's lead, that is.

The papers I saw before today said it was three, based on the UK’s own data. They had been working to a number of 2 when forecasting hospital capacity etc, so the move from 2 to 3 is bad.

I know fuck all about medical science, epidemiology etc but I can recognise the ratio of Its Awwwright to Shit Hit The Fan in official papers and these were all 100% Shit Hit The Fan And It’s Still Hitting.

If it’s anywhere near 6 or even 9 like you are suggesting, I can’t speak for other countries but the NHS simply cannot spin up that capacity at that speed. We would default to palliative care at home for a huge number of the most ill and frail.

This is not mere war gaming for me: my mother and aunt have both said they will refuse to care for or even visit my elderly and very frail grandmother if she becomes ill. She won’t be hospitalised because of her age and frailty. So... it’s my look out. I don’t know how much use I will be to her - I will do my best - but I will not have her die alone at home. I will do everything I can to keep her comfortable. I understand she will be able to get some sort of palliative care.

I really don’t want things to come to that. But I have just found out mother and aunt both ignored the official advice and both visited her on Mothers Day, both coming straight in from a shopping trip. Jesus wept

I knew the general shape of what Pelosi was trying to pull, but I didn't predict that she'd go so insane as to ram 500 unrelated things into the bill and hold the American people hostage for her Green New Deal and impossible things like "close the wage gap", which I guess can only mean forcing women and minorities to get paid way disproportionately more than white males. Same as that insane ACA bill that was jammed full of unrelated crap and the Dems demanded it needed to be forced through anyway.

Twitter is trying - and currently failing - to force something like 'thepeoplevsconservativecuts' to trend.

I'm glad that it sounds like Trump is looking to lift these quarantines and business restrictions. Free money is great, but just getting the economy moving again is also an option to avoid total collapse. Plus, then we can stop seeing these busybody Karens patting themselves on the back for seeing children who aren't theirs playing with people they don't know and running to their managers to force those people they don't know into quarantine.

Yes, I'm wondering about how offshore manufacturing will fare now that it's been exposed that the world economy can suffer a cascading failure due to the majority of manufacturing being centered on one country to save costs. But since CEO's and stockmarket traders think in short term bonuses and profits, I think it will be up to governments to ensure countries are able to keep manufacturing on their own soil. I think CEO's and traders will simply learn from this to dump all stocks next time a suspected pandemic occurs, rather than future proof the system.
