Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Oh how we laughed ...

The Government hasn't acted "exceptional" at any point during this crisis, it's been steady and measured regardless of the "data being hosed at it."
I’ve got to agree - I think they’ve played the public well, and got people begging for lockdown. Boris is doing well.
My opinion on the GBU generally is to back away hissing, dousing the air with holy water and making the sign of the cross, but well done on the handwashing campaign and bending the nation to your will. Well played. Also seeing the usual FB age/ class stratified memes coming out, which is always amusing.

What I wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall in the meetings with the good data.

Still coughing, still out of breath, husband coughing a lot more. Will be glad when we’ve got to the three week mark relatively unscathed.

Any specific reason the death rate is so low in the US right now? I have a hard time believing we're getting accurate stats so far

under reporting. From following this, a lot of locations such as west virgina had people literally dropping dead from corona, but the infrastructure to actually get tested for corona werent in place for the longest time. Considering how many americans live in mortal fear of medical debt, I'd like to see the general death stats. How many fat/sick/old fucks are just crawling in bed and praying the debt reaper doesnt come til they pass away, alone in their own filth?

Look no ones got 100% accurate numbers, but much of the US is in such a state of denial they just figure not testing means no infected! Please, come spend your money here you wont die, I promise.

Remember how a shitton of spoilt, vapid teenagers flocked to Florida to celebrate Spring Break?
Well...

In combination with the Median Age of the (regular) population:
us-median-age.top.jpg

More than 17% are 65+ years old. It has 3 major cities with more than 100.000 inhabitants and a median age above 40.

This is going to be ugly. Here's a link to the map: https://healthweather.us/
(Sorry if this map has already been posted)
That's a very red American penis. Florida teens strikes again. Perhaps for the last time.

Hey hey people. Spain here. And today I got a morale review for all of you. We're back on the meme track! Ah this is nice. Some of the media's still loosing its shit and so is the PP, but see, as I said, this is our "normal", seeing the PP go apeshit, the PSOE be nowhere to be found and the media go full stupid is just everyday spain, if anything, it was weird that we got that nice break there for a while. Vox and Podemos are still pushing the cart hardcore and Fernando Simon is back on full blast and funnily enough, he dissapeared for 2 days as they tested him due to symptoms (which I'm fairly sure were just a cold due to stress) and country went to shit head first for those 2 days so methinks this mofo's dominated the "drill sergeant" impersonation, fucking kek.

I do sometimes wonder how much I'm letting my morale color things so let me be clear. The general populace has barely even had a morale dip due to the dumbfuckery, just not 100% morale but I'd rate it higher than most days. We've been through Rajoi, that was worse. The medical personnel felt it a bit more but again, indeed thanks to the lack of families and better organization, they've been better than average in most areas, barring a few panicky types, the unions have been the lowest morale once the politicians went full retard because it's our god damned job to fix that shit, and its my morale that's been through the floor, 'cause you gotta add corona to the coctail for me. So, today I woke up feeling genuinely great. My union contact seems mostly recovered too. So as you can imagine that's upped my morale. But I do think general morale has gotten better than yesterday, or at least I'm seeing more memes around. I mean, it could also be that this has just broken us at last and we're on full "laugh the pain away" mode, but... we'll see.

Upwards growth is still there but still being flattened. Here's the data, do remember it includes the spike from the old folks homes fuckup.

Also, as I kept checking the Pelosi document, the ISS had to give me a call to warn me that if my sides keep passing by on their way into utter space they're gonna slam me with the cost of repairing the collision damage. Oh my god that document's incredible.
WTF? Who the hell is still going on cruises? Start torpedoing these fucking plague ships. Problem solved.
Dude, if you were stupid enough to get on one of those plagueships before. You're probably stupid enough to do it now.
Did you mean to type horrifying?
It's a matter of perspective, really.

It would be nice if one person from Congress proposed that they don't deserve to get paid because of all of this. Just one. It just would be nice to hear.

We all know that will never ever fucking happen, though. Congress can toy with the lives of other people's incomes, but never theirs. They keep rewarding themselves with raises, of course.

I wish life was more like a Frank Capra movie. Boy, do we need a Mr. Smith right about now.
It would not be constitutional under the 27th amendment.

Anything outside of SeaTac and Olympia are just to support those two cities, don't you know? Those are the two important cities, even Spokane is nothing more than a jumped up backwater cow town who needs to obey their betters and bend the knee.

The attitude of SeaTac and Olympia regarding the rest of the state is like LA/SF to the rest of CA.
Do people commute from rural Pierce County to Tacoma?

I just realized I forgot meme and funny news recap so let's get to it.

-In barcelona idiots get infected via orgy. Why do people do this?!

-in madrid, cops detain 2 teens fucking on the streets, the teens explain that with their parents home they haven't been able to even masturbate since the quarantine started and they decided since the streets were empty, well you know, then the teens proceed to try to argue sex is a basic necessity. It didn't work but the cops got a laugh.

-and talking about cops. Seems they're multiclassing into comedian. Here we have another cop monologue
I don't have time to translate everything but best part is when he claims Pikachu sent him a letter to narrate to the kids then proceeds to read it. And I quote: "Pika pi pika pika, pika pika pi. Pi pika pika. And this part is boldened and in quotes, pika pika pi pi." Seeing that come out of a cop car is just beautiful.

-and we also got a text meme proclaiming "reminder than thanks to staying home there's trillions of coronavirus particles that didn't find a host and died on the streets. Gotta count enemy losses to heighten the morale of the troop."

Another plague ship headed to Florida. Does Florida get to put these numbers on their scoreboard?

Anybody who boarded a cruise after March 1 should be housed on Alcatraz and allowed back later if they survive.
Wouldn't it be considered to be basically it's own country like the Diamond Princess has been for this?

UK numbers as of yesterday, check out that death toll compared to recovery.

They’re hoping a 3 week lockdown will drop cases significantly but we’ve seen the results everywhere else.

All of the deaths so far have had significant underlying medical complications. Even the 18 year old who died yesterday was severely ill.

It's more virulent than Swine Flu, and everyone's watching this a lot closer than last time so it's hard to judge, but that topped out at 360 or so with most getting it rather mild.

Unfortunately we're at 335 barely 2 months into this.

It's odd that the virus seems to be hitting the hardest in the West.* One would think it would spread faster in the 3rd world.

*(aside from China and Iran)
It's not really that strange. First of all there is much more travel into the west than the 3rd world, so tourists and others from China or coming from China would more quickly bring the virus into the west. The mobility in the west is of course also much larger, so it would potentially spread more quickly there. Also, while many think of tight packed 3rd world cities, it's not like western cities aren't very dense.

F.ex in Europe we can see that a big breeding ground for spread was people going skiing in the Alps. People from all over Europe came to an already infected region, partied in tight packed bars, spread it around more, and then went home on flights where more people got infected, and then started spreading it in their home countries.

3rd world countries also have a much younger population that will be less impacted by the virus, and far less people is obviously being tested. Take Ethiopia as an example, about half their population is 18 years or younger while only about 5% is 60+ years old.

Of course this doesn't mean it can get really bad in these countries, but it's not strange that it's hitting the west first. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

ground report

we have another tests shipment. drive through testing. again only with symptoms, no doctor's note needed this time though

stupidly, we are still not testing anyone asymptomatic.

local hospital system now accepting hand sewn cloth masks for personnel who are cleaning/etc in infected patient areas. bad idea.

my department slowed up a little; they've closed the state, now, no inessential business allowed.
agriculture is essential. pharmacy. us. my second job will probably be gone for months I think.

I tested negative. I'm home, deciding if I go back in or not. I may use my sick time until things there get desperate; after all, the dead can wait forever, until they start stacking up. and we are ahead for today. I might wish I'd taken the few days to rest, next week, if a wave crashes.

A doctor who has treated one of these cases can tell the difference between this and flu. I do think that if we weren't tacitly being pressured not to report, they'd be allowing diagnoses based on sign and symptoms, without testing, for those who are sick. There's a different quality to the cough, the mucus and the behavior of the patients. it's very different from flu.

I'm going to have tea and try to sleep.

edit to add: this is a small city. not Seattle.
we will get overwhelmed much faster in rural hospitals. some only have the one ICU. rural areas, as is standard, will be shipping their patients in to the cities for treatment.

Something that so many people don't want to think about is... who is actually, really, truly 100% healthy in a burger-gobbling cola drinking, sit on your ass all day first world nation?

What we're getting out of this is that a lot of 18-40 somethings are walking around with undiagnosed, but completely manageable conditions... Or sure everythings fine now, but you've got pre-beetus and 10 times your daily salt intake wrecking your organs and you cant run for more than a minute.. You get Corona on top of that and congratulations, you're the risk group fighting for your life on a ventilator.

Well at least it wasn't the bring out your dead scene.

I reckon you'd get arrested for doing something like that right now. Or attacked. All it would take is that someone gets offended.

In the words of one of the Sex Pistols: 'This country's a bleedin' Reichstag'. A journalist asked him what he was going to do about it and he replied: "Make it worse".

And you can see why the Sex Pistols were necessary then and something like them would be pretty handy now. By being as offensive as they possibly could and getting away with it they essentially defanged the authoritarian cunts who use 'I'm offended' to get things they dislike shut down by the cops. Liberty didn't die because we had an authoritarian leader. It died because we had weak leaders who dared not stand up to the mob. And so you get shit like this

https://web.archive.org/web/2020022...nd-twitter-posts-soar-in-london-a7064246.html

The Communications Act 2003 defines illegal communication as “using public electronic communications network in order to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety”. Breaking the law carries a six-month prison term or fine of up to £5,000.

Before this, a Twitter mob could get you fired, beaten up by AntiFa and made unemployable. Now they can do all that and get you arrested too.

look, we've just got a lot of fat people. there is a 2-3% death rate for this in healthy people, the fats are gonna take it harder.

sorry, Texas

Not airborne virus, it has been around for a long time. Dog eaters die of this shit every day. But if it ever goes airborne...

Hantavirus is carried/spread by mice/rats. Keep all dried foods in airtight plastic containers, keep your kitchen clean, and have traps on hand in case you see any evidence of enterprising mouse invasion. I would not shit the bed over a novel hantavirus. The chances that it has got from chinky mouse to whitey mouse are small.

Detroit, Michigan, USA

Detroit police staff member dies of Coronavirus. At least six officers or staff are known to have the virus. Over 200 others are quarantined or self-quarantined. Detroit only has 2000 or so police officers, and is considering accepting help from the Michigan State Police. The city is also currently expediting the release of prisoners onto tether monitoring.

SHUTDOWNS
Shelter-in-place order and shutdown of everything non-essential (groceries, gas stations, pharmacies, the usual) from Tuesday March 24 to Monday April 13. (archive) (executive order saved on KF)
The Big Three Auto manufacturers (Ford, GM, Chrysler) are closing all factories in the USA, putting well over 150,000 workers out of work, until "at least April." This figure does not include workers at supplier factories, which will also be obliged to close. (archive) (archive) They will be making a small number of parts for emergency vehicles, and GM will be helping make ventilators (archive - ventilators)

FREE STUFF!
Free bus rides in Detroit after drivers' strike (archive- strike) (archive - free fares)
Free access to state parks (archive)
Evictions suspended while the state of emergency lasts (archive)

FREEDOM!
Semi-trucks carrying essential supplies can ignore seasonal road weight limits (archive)
Distilleries can make hand sanitizer without a permit (archive)

OTHER NEWS
Corona-Chan is about to begin her prison tour: one prisoner, currently hospitalized, is believed to have contracted the disease in said hospital. He will be kept in isolation once he is discharged from the hospital and returned to prison. (archive)

LAW AND ORDER
Lansing (the capitol) police are not physically responding to minor crimes such as larceny, property damage, and break-ins to unoccupied buildings, including garages. Other police are adopting similar policies (archive). 5 Detroit police tested positive and 152 over 200 are quarantined (the Detroit Police Dept. has 2,200 officers) (archive). One Detroit staffer is dead (archive). Kalamazoo sheriff's deputy tested positive (archive).
Breaking the lockdown is a misdemeanor. Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) has stated there will not be a "ramp up" of police enforcement, for what that's worth (archive).

DEATH TOLL
Michigan deaths: 20+ (according to my morning newspaper. Online still says 15). (archive), plus one Ann Arbor man allegedly killed by his roommate in a Corona-related dispute (archive).

Humans think they're better than mice because unlike humans mice haven't created a globalized society that allows chinky mice to travel freely to whitey mouse countries and silenced anyone who questions the wisdom of this. Mice look at humans and think they're better for the same reason.
