Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

First and foremost, I cannot say with certainty if these videos are entirely what they appear to be. The claim (by Jennifer Zeng 曾錚) is that these windstorms are sweeping across China and that unexplained fires continue to break out in the countryside. Here are those videos, archived for your viewing pleasure. Also big thanks for those of you that taught me how to pull videos off of Twitter.

The text included with each video was tweeted along with it. Here is the text for each video, in order:

1. Now I am starting to believe it's heaven's mandate. #Laoshan District in #Qingdao, #Shandong provice in #China is on fire too, on Mar 19.

2."I am just behind this car. Hardly missed me." This woman says.
Doomsday gale in #Beijing, on 3/18

3. In Beijing, on Mar 18, people blown away by...doomsday gale?

4. At Summer Palace in #Beijing, on Mar 18.

5. Looks more & more like doomsday is coming to #CCP ruled #China. Apart from #CCPVirus #COVID2019 #Coronavirus, fires and gales happening simultaneously in many cities today. Watch!

Whatever the case may be, it is clear that God is angry at China for trying to rewrite the Bible (and Quran) and that Emperor Xi has lost Heaven's Mandate.
"But Xi's heart was hardened."

I've heard a lot of dumb shit, and this is some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

CQ/HCQ make the inside of your cells more alkaline, which viruses don't like. They rely on acidic pH.

It has nothing to do with nanomachines you dumbass.

The danger with these untested methods and cures, is that they are every addictive to the uninformed. And they are dangerous because people who have an agenda behind the "cure" have every motivation for pushing it, even if it doesn't work. Quackery is particularly dangerous for the sick, who are surrounded by impatient people, or policymakers, for that matter.

Ok, here is an extreme example. Imagine that we were a deeply Catholic society. You probably could complete a credible study, on the power of prayer. For example, your hypothesis is, that saying 20 Hail Mary's and "Glory be's" before eating a meal helps manage obesity-related diabetes.

And it may work.

But the real mechanism behind it, might be that is slows your impulse to grab everything and fill up your plate, and gobble all the food down. So yes it is an excellent way of managing Diabetes ...

So jumping to the conclusion that the obese and the diabetic don't have that special connection to God, or are just not devout enough, is dangerous.

And if the Hail Mary's work for you, can you ditch the Metformin or insulin or whatever they take?

Or that putting bleach on a counter slows the transmission of influenza viruses. Sure ... But do you drink the bleach to clean out your own system?

Or peddling vitamin cures. It is very easy to tell your sick kid or mother to take megadoses of vitamins because some "guru" or disenfranchised doctor suggests it, if not, because what you really want is for her to be healthy again so that she can continue to meet your needs. But dumping megadoses of vitamins down somebody else's throat is not medically sound.

And people who want a quick fix, to get people back to work, might have motivation to push cures on people, but they aren't the ones to live with the side-effects. And when the "remedy" has either failed the person or made him or her sicker, then it becomes the fault of the inferm, for not trying hard enough or being willing to "help herself" ....

Sorry but I am very cynical about any cure for this COVID stuff, and pushing quackery, in order to make it seem like there is a solution, is insidious and dangerous.

Are the seats dedicated to one news organization? Does that mean a reporter from The Hill did this?
Yeah they have a seating chart to tell who sits where. With that said, currently half of the seats are set to be empty to protect the President and the press. I really couldn't say who sits where anymore, I'm sure it is all in flux. The most recent chart I can find is from a week ago.

Press Chart.jpg

It might have been a member of The Hill, like the rando suggested. But it is also likely that it was some other member of the press. Still made me laugh.

taleb pointed this out, something many of us are suspicious about with the cases in italy compared to other places:

View attachment 1201499 (tweet) (tweet archive) (article) (article archive)

it's going to be really interesting to retroactively go through the data to see which groups were hit hardest and more precise reasons/conjectures/studies as to why. some people have pointed out that southern euros are very touchy-feely (hugs, kissing on cheek, etc) which is why infection may have been so high compared to japan and south korea. but i seriously wonder to what extent genetics (pre-existing conditions aside) play a factor in mortality in this, as speculated throughout this thread and other places.

Is this a straight honest question from Taleb or is he taking the piss? Americans aren't famed for their dry sardonic humour. But he's speculating about a wopocidal genetic targeting component because it killed 4 members of this "large New Jersey Family".
Large is right, they're a pod of land manatees. 90% are offensively obese., and the others are pushing the definition of plump .
Maybe this is what killed Fat Tony, Fat Mikey & Fat Pauli ? Like the Detroit Dispatcher whose hobby was eating Lasagna .

too video;didn't watch: He mentions a very interesting observation that the BCG vaccine against TB also protects against other completely unrelated infections because of the way the innate and specific immune systems interact. There might be case for giving healthcare workers and vulnerable (sick and or old) people that to reduce the risk of them being infected.
Interesting. I don't know if the situation has changed by now, but early on when shit started hitting the fan in Germany, they noticed that the states formerly belonging to the GDR had lower numbers of (confirmed) infections and I think fewer deaths as well. The GDR had mandatory vaccinations, including BCG.

Could easily be a coincidence/explainable by other factors, of course.

my half-serious theory to that was that nobody wants to go to east germany, including the virus. But seriously east germany is so economically dead and some cities deserted, they don't exactly see a lot of tourism or business related travel. Also NRW, the most populous state had carnival some weeks ago, which is basically one big party in all of the bigger cities. A tradition the east doesn't share.

Welp, my daughter and I are laid off. My other daughter is on unpaid leave.

It's getting really real now.

No big thing. Things can always be worse. While it's worse on a global scale than I've seen, I'll just do my part and help when I can. Take care of the little things I can take care of.

Just remember the alcoholic's prayer: God give me the strength the change the things I can change, accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Joke for the day: What's green and red and goes 100 mph? Kermit in a blender.

Man, preppers just cannot win in any normie media discourse can they? People hate self-sufficient white men.

Pre-Corona: "Bakker buckets lmfao, bunch of paranoid dale gribbles compensating for their small dicks."
Early Corona: "How dare you heartless bigots chastise queer brown folx for not preparing when there are muh food deserts??? Selfish hoarding assholes."
Future Corona, probably: "Low-energy shut ins are too scared of a little germ to make our big beautiful lines go up! Sad!"

Whatever, they'll have the last laugh. Worst that'll happen is they overprepared.

One of the guys filling in for rush limbaugh (Todd howard) suggested we throw the youth into the viral fray to build herd immunity to save the economy and keep the older population safe. According to him and his "expert" guest ,theres a zero percent chance of death for those under 30.
Fucking boomer: "Sacrifice the young to save the old!" It's the other way around you demented selfish shithead, the old sacrifice themselves because they're dying soon anyway and the young get a chance to live their lives. Pathetic, I hope he gets it and goes out screaming.

I'm no zoomer but the incredible selfishness of boomers is really appalling.

Several weeks after he'd already shut down travel to-and-from China and assembled an entire response team to the outbreak that was growing in China, yes. I've heard this one repeated multiple times, but at the end of the day Tucker Carlson, like most journalists, is just very good at sucking his own dick. The notion that some FOX journalist who made most of his money by slap-fighting with mentally disabled people in interviews is more informed than the President of the United States is just ridiculous.
He made most of his money by being the son of a wealthy heiress but point taken regarding journalists.

I'm a shameless Tucker fan because he reminds me of the guys I went to uni with and I relate to his observations about being a Californian living on the East Coast. His dismay over what California has become breaks my heart.

Now you know why so many of Gen-X hold the Boomers in absolute contempt. The hatred the Baby Boomers have always had for those younger than them is staggering in its ferocity.

Strategic Reserve has around 10k ventilators. They're well-maintained in a warehouse. Or at least they're supposed to be. Don't know how many the military has.

Most of them will get shipped to rural hospitals since that's where they will be most useful.

I read a report by one of the "Top Men" who I am friends with their brother's sister stating the military has a cure and will spray it over the continental US after it has been tested on the Guatemalan marsupials.

I too can spout conjecture and gibberish without citation when called upon as well.

Looks like it was super effective. You can't get Coronavirus if you are dead.
But you still can vote Democrat!

Gen-X-ers are particularly sick of the Boomers.

We were raised under their toxic ideologies. We still have to listen to their shit, and are fed a guilt trip when we let the call go to an intentionally turned-off voice mail.

We are stuck living with the consequences of their government policies until we die.

We endured their shit-ass parent-first parenting ...

At some point, you just say "I've had it." "I'm done arguing with you. Four or five decades of this shit .... time to zip it."

Maybe that point is now.

Flush Rush. That is a good start.

And quarantine the kids. Not for the Boomer's sake, but for the sake of the kids.

Yeah, no its much simpler than that.
North Rhine-Westphalia - epicenter of Germany's outbreak
China is not only North Rhine-Westphalia's most important economic partner in Asia, but also lies with a trading volume of over 30 billion euros - according to the Netherlands - meanwhile already in second place in the ranking of all domestic an the country's non-European trading partner
Over 800 Chinese companies (as of December 16, 2013) have established themselves in NRW located - more than in any other German state, alone in last year (2012) more than 60 were added
...
- Chinese companies in North Rhine-Westphalia: over 800 subsidiaries, among others Huawei, Minmetals, Sany, XCMG
- NRW companies in China: over 1,000 subsidiaries, including Bayer, Dolezych, Lanxess, Mennekes, Metro, Oschatz, Phoenix Contact, Vaillant
Document Google TLed its from 2013, doesn't make it less valid, probably only more so.

Slappy update, for whatever it's worth.

The Deuce has not shut down Arizona. Feel free to move about the cabin. We did WolMart today for a few things. Paper? Hahaha. Nope. Water? Plenty. Some empty shelves, but still most of the basics. We only bought what we needed -- some fresh juice, veggies, cat food, a few things like that. The store was pretty empty people-wise, but all were friendly and optimistic. No panic in anyone's eyes and I'm Bagwhan and shit at reading people at a glance.

Me no job, wife's restaurant shuttered, but fuck. Other than all the pollen in the air right now, we're fine. Strictly stuffy nose shit.

Sitting at home and playing wid my dick is boring. I keep up with this thread 4 times a day or so. I also side tracked into playing the lottery. Up a grand in 3 days. Told the wife that's going to be my new job... professional lottery player. The casinos are closed, but the lottery isn't. Was at the state lottery office today to cash in some Benjamins.

Listened to Trump and his by Easter thingie driving to lotto office. I love the man, but overly optimistic IMHO.

Guess we'll see. His plan to reopen the country is not without merit. We aren't all NYC and areas that are barely registering on the WhuFlu Richter Scale probably should be able to get back to life as we (somewhat) knew it.

If nothing else, this has fulfilled the manifest of "May you live in interesting times." Stay safe, all y'all.
