Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Bigelow Aerospace lays off entire workforce

Those sources said that the company, based in North Las Vegas, Nevada, was halting operations because of what one person described as a “perfect storm of problems” that included the coronavirus pandemic. On March 20, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak signed an emergency directive ordering all “nonessential” businesses to close.

Baaaaaaaaloney. Watch them get a bailout.

haven't they been on the verge of shutting down for more than a decade?

hopefully gigantic scam Virgin Galactic is next!

Anyone curious about the government response in the third world? I decided to brush up my knowledge in banana men language and translate the latest discourse from the president of Brazil.

“Since we rescued our brothers in China we started preparations to face the coronavirus because we knew that sooner or later the virus would arrive in Brazil.

Our Ministry of Health alongside the Secretaries of Health from nearly every state, started developing the strategic planning to fight the virus. They did an excellent job to prepare the SUS [public healthcare system] to treat possible victims.

What we had to contain the most, however, was social panic as well as mass unemployment. Against all odds, we succeed.

The majority of the press ran counter to our efforts and encouraged panic among the masses by using Italy's large number of victims as their flagship tool to incite hysteria. Italy, a country with a large elderly population and a climate completely different from ours, was the perfect scenario to incite hysteria throughout the country.

Recently, the media has changed its tone and is asking for more peace and tranquility. Congratulations for the Brazilian press. It's essential that truth and balance remain among us.

The virus has arrived, we are fighting it now and soon the virus will pass. Life has to continue, jobs have to be maintained and the livelihood of families has to be preserved. We need to go back to normality.

Some few authorities from states and municipalities need to abandon the concept of “ruined land”, the prohibition of public transit, the closure of markets and mass confinement.

What is happening throughout the globe shows that the risk group is comprised of people above sixty years old. So why should we close schools? We rarely see fatalities among health people who are under forty years old. Ninety percent of us won't have any symptoms in case of contamination.

We must have extreme caution so as to avoid transmitting the virus to others, specially our dear parents and grandparents, and we must respect the instructions from the Ministry of Health.

In my particular case, given my history as an athlete, if I were to be contaminated by the virus I wouldn't need to worry because I wouldn't feel a thing. At worst, I would have a little cold like that famous doctor from that famous TV channel [Globo which is the largest TV conglomerate in Brazil] once said.

As I speak, the world searches for a treatment to the virus. The FDA and the Albert Einstein Hospital, in Sao Paulo, are looking for proof of the efficiency of Chloroquine in the treatment of Covid-19. Our government has received positive news about this medicament fabricated in Brazil and largely used in the fight against malaria, lupus and arthritis.

I believe in God, who will capacitate researchers and scientists worldwide to find a cure for this illness. I take this opportunity to show homage to all healthcare workers: doctors, nurses and aides on the front line, welcoming treating and comforting us in hospitals.

As I said from the beginning, without panic and hysteria we will win the fight against the virus and we will be proud of living in this new Brazil that has everything to be a great nation. We are together and even more united. God bless our dear nation.”

It's amazing how certain types of people show their true colors during a crisis. Except these are the people demanding we trust them without question, give them our masks and put them on a pedestal.
Fuck everyone with lupus and RA amirite

It's not a restricted med, nor is it one that is in short supply or difficult to produce. This isn't a scandal. Well at best an extremely minor one as they are using an approved and safe med slightly off book. Which is done all the time. Honestly all Health Care providers need to be taking this prophylacticly right now.

/sigh

Okay look one more time for the slow kids. The number of tests performed is going up drastically each day. So the "number of infected" is mostly a Bullshit number. It's increasing simply because we have greater capacity to detect what is already there. While it gives some clue to the overall spread, it does not actually reflect in any way a rising crisis. We've always known that testing was only capturing a small number of the actual infected. We also suspect that infected have been out there in the US since at least December. To get an actual idea on how the virus is moving, if things are getting better or worse, and just to get a feel for how bad it is you need to look past that topline number. Ignore the idiots in th emedia. They never dug down into polls in the last three elections, they really are worthless at math or analysis.

To see what is going on watch the following.
- Hospital Admissions
- ICU admissions
- Deaths
- Ratio of Positive to Negative Tests in those tested and total volume of tests performed by locale.

Those are the important numbers. Those will show us the overall movement of the Wu Flu. "New Cases" is useless and only good for sensationalism and driving panic. It's a bad number because we have no Sentinel Testing in place to provide a broad random sampling.
Those three are notoriously hard to find, and vary greatly by state unfortunately.

Didn't @xenomorph mention she takes hydroxychloroquine for lupus, normally paying $4 for a month's supply and now she has to pay $80 for the same? Hoarding medications people use to treat serious conditions because you can is not only a dick move it's a crime.

I just re-read your post and it's also not a prophylactic for coronavirus (it treats symptoms, it doesn't prevent infection), these are doctors hoarding huge supplies just in case for themselves, family and friends. That's a crime.

So the important question is how this all changes the math on how things need to be dealt with. If it turns out we do have a solution that can be mass produced as a replacement for ICU ventilator care suddenly the question is if the production capacity and logistics around this replacement to allow us to say "Alright, now its 'just the flu', open non-luxuries back up".

We're kinda fine with millions getting it if we have a solution for millions having it. We demonstrably have the resources to put millions into bed rest for a week.

So we arn't there yet. Research should continue, as should industrial adaptation. What are the timetables with regards to increasing production capacity? I'm guessing we can double our drug production output faster than we can double our ventilator production, at the very least.

And the Apex is probably in 45 days. This is just the start. Its gonna get real bad. Especially in New York City.
Here is more information, somewhat corroborating what you are saying ...

More LA shitcrap + doc talk:

LA demographics:

Population density:

(2019-2020) 2,344 people per square mile (905/km2).

Trouble is brewing in LA. Trucks bring shipments from the port of LA along major highways to all corners of the USA and thru Canada.

Port of LA faces the Pacific. Who do you think is running many of the cargo ships that come in? And touching the equipment to offload them? And taking a piss at the local porta potty or whatever?

I mean, who knows? Maybe Chinamen sneeze, cough and piss in segregated Chinese restrooms on the ship ...

Airplanes, pilots, passengers, freight and cargo go thru LAX, Long Beach, Orange County, Ontario.

Basically anybody with a positive test brings LA County to a truck stop, airport, bus station, to your town.

I am following this problem closely. If we are not careful, the body count will be tremendous, and infection rates will be higher, and subsequently and statistically more likely to spread this disease to your front door via commerce and trade.

Our quarantined make it less likely for the average Joe (or José) to sneeze on a trucker or cargo guy, and less likely to get you sick and kill your relatives.

Just FYI.

Edit: LA County has large amounts of uninhabited space. The city itself had a density of 7,544.6 people per square mile (2,910/square kilometer) based on 2010 census data.

I just hope no one else decides that fish medicine is a good alternative because chloroquine phosphate kinda sounds the same.

taleb pointed this out, something many of us are suspicious about with the cases in italy compared to other places:

it's going to be really interesting to retroactively go through the data to see which groups were hit hardest and more precise reasons/conjectures/studies as to why. some people have pointed out that southern euros are very touchy-feely (hugs, kissing on cheek, etc) which is why infection may have been so high compared to japan and south korea. but i seriously wonder to what extent genetics (pre-existing conditions aside) play a factor in mortality in this, as speculated throughout this thread and other places.

It's not genetics. At least, I don't think so. Look at that picture.

They're fat. The women in that family that had 4 people die in are fat.

Wonder if fat people are affected by COVID19 more. Probably.

Hence the "SHUT IT DOWN" reaction in California. I can't help but blame the morons running the place, look at San Francisco with a re.tard eating his own poo in the street. Even in NYC that gets you off the streets and strapped down into an ambulance for a three day stay . In California the people in charge just shrug their shoulders and say "Oh well".

So, some rețarded Europoor in A&N pulled a Minotaur and claimed that in three days the US will envy the situation in Italy and Spain. Any clue what the fuck is supposed to happen in three days? 🤔

In three days?

Well what have we been doing over the past three days?

In the meantime, the number of cases will increase a lot, a bunch more people will die.

And we will be here discussing how Pelosi is a drunk, Trump is the greatest or worst president of all time, and how there is not enough asswipe or facemasks.

That is probably what will happen.

And people get tested when they think they have it.

This disease spreads via breathing and people aren't quarantined. Of course it's going up.

We will never have an accurate number. People don't go to the doctor unless shit's real and that is the case even in places with socialized medicine.

No they don't shrug their shoulders, that's the point. Hopefully our protective measures are passively protecting middle America. :optimistic:

If you can get the cops in NYC to respond to anything, it is a miracle. If you get in a crash, forget about it. They literally do.not.give.a.shit. I saw some dude cross the street and spray vomit out of his mouth at stopped cars, and carry on his stroll like it was no big deal. If some guy is eating a turd in the street there, that sounds like business as usual.

The attachments added to the original bill negotiated in the Senate, such as no Stock Buy Backs were reasonable and proper. The shit dumped since Pelosi returned from her nice vacay is criminal and treasonous and should face a firing squad.

She 100% spent that time on the vacation planning up that FrankenBill. The bitch deserves to be stuck on one of the Plague Boats for this seditious bullshit when the country is getting increasingly trapped within their homes.

Are you absolutely sure you don't want Performing Arts funded with millions of dollars? Don't you want a racial quota on corporate boards? There's no way we can survive this pandemic unless these happen. J/K. Everyone one of Pelosi's propositions were dubious at best and she has the nerve to get up and grandstand about vigilance and sniffing out "poison pills" in legislation. She literally flew coast-to-coast to throw a wrench into the negotiation so the Democrats could use corona as "a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our[Democrats'] vision.” (James Clyburn D-SC) I know the word 'obstruction' is often tossed around a lot, but proposing conditions and requirements in a RESCUE bill that have nothing to do with the issue at hand is overtly obstruction, but the MSM will cover her ass like they always do. To hell with Dems and ANY input they desire from this point on. The last thing the US needed was a delay with something like this.

The reason she's pulling those games is because the American public is anxious for a solution that can allow them to keep food on the table and she saw her chance to have a PATRIOT Act skullfucking. After all, CNN, MSNBC, WaPo and the NYT are all primed to play defense on this.

Probably bullshit, but how much truth is there to this? Do we have a thread on this Jiang guy and the internal politics? View attachment 1201878

Jiang Zemin already had a turn in power, before Hu Jintao (and eventually Xi Jinping). Neither of them managed to take off into culthood

Edit: Added Xi so people know what I’m talking about (the presidency / Chinese Communist Party leader)

Double edit: beaten by a much better answer
