Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

at this rate, what isn't a sign or symptom?

Could be cultural differences leading to lower numbers or slower burning. also Italians are lazy and useless-
Or it could be that as kiwis pointed out Italy started "measuring things like china" after WHO pressure while we told them to put a sock in it and ignored the entire concept of "comorbidity", are testing the dead, and get pissy whenever our politicians try to hide anything. Ya know, could be that too... after this is done I'd like to look at changes in population for all countries. I'mma bet it'd look real bad for some.

this "its only X country, oh its only X state, its only X city" passing off doesnt realy mean much. It's not like literally every square inch of italy and spain is a plague zone either, you can point to specific cities and regions. The thing is, while you're not seeing the bodies hit the floor in your little towns and backwater states yet, they're also not exactly hubs of high industry, commerce and culture either, now are they?

From the beginning everyone just wants to feel safe and normal, I get it but.. First it was just those silly chinks and their bats, everything is fine. Then it was just those touchy feely unwashed europeans, everything is fine. Now its just those damn new yorkers and commiefornians, everything is fine... I get coping mechanisms, but its like the polar opposite of morons buying/stealing 10 lifetime supplies of everything and preparing bullets to put in their neighbors heads. None of its productive.

'Little towns and backwater states,' okay MovieBob. Sounds like you're the one who is trying to cope. I'm not in denial of how bad it will be in some of the major cities, particularly the ones who have rețards running the show. This doesn't mean the entire country is screwed. Hell, it doesn't mean those entire states are screwed. People need to balance accepting that some places are going to be in a bad way while not going full doomtard. Right now, I am concerned about my own family and friends. If they make it through, I will consider myself blessed. Afterwards, we can all reconsider how smart it is to locate so much of our industry abroad and in a few key states.

i doubt that, Italy has alot of deaths in a small region and i think they dont burn their dead normaly.

On the other hand, here's what's happening in NY right now:

After a certain point it really feels like New York City did practically nothing to protect itself from any of this.

Ah shit, that is actually pretty sad then.
Autism-driven anxiety can be a real bitch. Anxiety disorder at its base is bad enough, then add a different disorder that lets all manner of random thoughts clog your brain for hours at a time stoking that anxiety and the general issue autists have with change being expanded to society level changes for a plague.

She was also, obviously, a woman. Women deal with autism differently then men do, while men with autism struggle to form and maintain friendships, women with autism are usually taken under the wing of other women and taught how to act, which is partially why diagnosis of female autism is so low compared to men. Women are also much more social, so all this must have come as a real shock to her.

She must have felt like her entire world was imploding and she was powerless to stop it. A terrible reminder how vulnerable some people mentally can be, especially in times like this.
On the other hand, here's what's happening in NY right now:
Important point to remember: these NY percentages are only based on confirmed cases. Despite all efforts, US testing is still laughably behind. At best we have only picked up on 15% of active cases, odds are we are catching even less, and all those other cases do not require hospitalization, they are the mild cases that make up 98% of all coronavirus cases.

They have a larger population than us. Their funeraries should be able to take in more people. And we're both strong catholics, we've been using "expedited" funerals but that's just as expedited as standard catholic rites get, and even the cremated ones get velatorio and last rites with very few exceptions (even non-catholics tend to get them due to having catholic families.) Around 6 times the usual flow sounds a lot like 2000 people. So I might wonder if we're erring in the side of cautions. I know for instance the malaga outbreak's dead were marked as corona despite not having been tested yet, so I wonder if we're straight up marking most dead as corona, but I can't say for sure. What I can say is Italy's numbers and situation make no fucking sense unless their funeraries are seriously shit.

in flipland, some frontliners have made their own PPE out of trashbags and face shields using coke bottles

Coke bottle mask aren’t bad for emergencies, but I’m surprised people aren’t using tyvek? Maybe it isn’t available (I assume the premade suits aren’t), but it is produced in large quantities for construction as just sheets. Not as easy as putting some trash bags, but a lot safer

you know my small town I’m from (just how small it is we don’t even have police and instead you’d see a state trooper every other week or so) is doing pretty well. We’re “social distancing” just because we live so far apart from one another. Didn’t really have panic buying on the scale other places did; however, I only went out one day to get my mom supplies since we have to drive a good distance for groceries anyways.

Weeks Before the governors orders we had already canceled gatherings (esp the one that bring people from out of town). We can’t do this officially, but the youngest are taking up shifts with road blocks. Haven’t seen them but a friends son is doing that. From some papers that are a bit early showing it has the potential to spread vis other means (jfc if that’s true) then yeah we will get hit. Otherwise? I really don’t see how.

I’ll say there are some damn good deals onmoonshine tho. I make my own, but the old timers make the best shit. They’re also happy lots of people want to buy the head/tails to make sanitizer out of. So yeah even the moonshiners aren’t setting up around our local growers and delivering to their customers.

I could see it having issues in towns that basically serve as places to sleep to commute to a city or have lots of tourist attractions, but towns like mine? I just don’t see it happening.

Our base just went into SHUT. IT. DOWN. mode, with only essential personnel coming in. Others on base are taking the "stay at home" deal less seriously than others, as I can see others in my housing section on post actively having porch parties.

We're all gonna die.

Was talking to my brother in law. He had to send some dumb bitch home from work today because she "looked like shit". Handed her a mask through the mail slot in the office door and told her to get out. The dumb cunt and her boyfriend (both in their early 20s) thought it was a good idea to go to Florida last week and didn't think it necessary to inform anyone. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK?

Boomers are shit but the youth will kill us all.

some news from the (store)front:

first shop I went to had a nice advisory at the door how to behave with nice images and stuff. among the reasonable ones (don't sneeze into people's faces and wash your hands tard) they also advised to use cashless payments... you're not getting my data that easily! but more importantly, I have zero urge to punch in my pin on a number pad that has been abused the whole day without ever getting wiped down.
store itself was stocked as any normal day, one type of water was missing but that was probably a delivery issue since the less carbonated one was still almost full.
anyway, wheeled my groceries to checkout, where the next measure was waiting for me - cash is only to be placed on the counter, never handed over directly. apparently it's not the cash that's dirty. or the boxes I handled less than a minute earlier...

next shop for some other stuff had no advisory, but a bigger surprise at checkout. not only were there lines taped off on the floor, because keeping 2 meters distance seems to be too difficult for people, they had a whole screen draped around the register. imagine hooking a transparent tarp to the ceiling and that's pretty much what it looked like. complete with nice in- and out "catdoors" where the food goes through. hilariously no one thought about how to handle the cash (this shop still handled it directly), so you had to reach in/out to exchange it.
but gotta say, as silly as it looked it made a lot more sense than shop number 1, chances some tard coofing right across the counter are pretty high, especially when you sit there all day long.

So Italy has some plague spreading dipshits too?

yeah, well, they outdid even the chinese in that regard with the whole "let's show everybody how we're not racist by hugging & kissing some asians" back when china was already scrambling to contain it.

That's certainly simpler, but as a monocausal factor just as unlikely. NRW's infection rate rose parallel to that of other states, most notably Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. NRW just had it the worst. Besides, business ties to China would explain why (and how) it ended up spreading in certain areas, but not its mortality rate or further rate of infection since then, especially not since the travel restrictions.

There's probably not one single reason for these statistical differences, and as I've just looked up more recent stats (while also comparing individual cities with similar population sizes like Nuremberg and Dresden or Kiel and Chemnitz), this difference doesn't seem to be all that significant anymore anyway.

bavaria was a completely different case with different path of infection. car supplier had a meeting with a chinese exec and she infected them, then they infected their families, that was 2-3 weeks before shit hit the fan in italy.
it started for good when people came back from italy, and it was right in the middle of the ruhrgebiet - basically one big ass sprawl. most of the flare ups could either be traced back to italy or back to people traveling from NRW. there were some gaps, but the assumption was always there are asymptomatic/low symptom carriers (iirc it was the same for other countries, the uk one was from italy too, poland was from germany after italy etc.).
plus like everywhere to even show up in statistics you have to be tested, so have some symptoms and/or someone needed to carry it into groups with high-risks to gain a significant foothold.

To be fair, the boomers have been forcing people to work sick for decades. Can't really blame people for going in sick when the status quo has been threats for calling in sick.

Your BiL would have likely been threatening them if they had tried to call in sick.

I believe that this is one of the reasons Cuomo is reportedly two seconds away from Lynching De Blasio; Apparently Blasio went from "its just a flu bro" to shitting himself and blaming Trump while still going to his public YMCA gym.

That is wrong. They are grateful to still be open right now and have instituted strict guidelines to keep people healthy so that they can stay open.

He's sent four other people home sick, with pay, and hopes that they get better. This dumb bitch gets to go home with pay as well, but she got a tongue lashing before she left for being brain dead. Nobody wants the place to get shut down due to a localized outbreak. Notice the mask was given to her through the mail slot. Nobody is allowed in the office and everyone is to stay in their zones.
