But it's a fairly known fact here than going into STEM in condemning yourself to poverty.
Thats why i changed my job after just 2 years. i get more pay for factory security than for working in the lab. just 28 hours a week, just a couple of meetings a week and sleeping while working is no problem. the sensors go full Air siren the moment they drop out of the green.

And as for production. These are PUBLIC institutions. They sell their patents cheap, free even in many cases. As soon as test results finish we're hoping YOU will pick up that torch. If you do, please do remember to share. We don't expect much but we'd be grateful if you do.
the whole industry in germany is giddy to start working at full speed. Lab techs are working overtime to get test facilities running, companies changing their production line to produce critical equipment, etc. germans need to work or they arent happy.

Well, well, well....if you are going out to a park, etc., or anywhere they don't like you going, might want to turn off the cell phone and leave it off unless absolutely necessary, because you are being tracked. Am an old-school guy, leave my cell phone turned off unless I need to use it, which isn't often.

If this is going to happen during the pandemic, do you really think this tactic won't be used when things return to normal? If you do, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

Oh, yeah, right...Denmark has maybe five million people. Over 335 million in the USA. As if. Jesus.

Finally over 100 cases in Afghanistan.

Slight correction:
Finally over 100 cases in Afghanistan confirmed.
I dread to think what numbers places like Africa and India are going to pull that we will never even hear about. Some smart people might be able to tell how large the impact of the Chinese Flu was, once they check the above-standard death rate for this timeframe, but I doubt that such nations will keep registers good enough to actually analyse them this way.

And I'm starting to understand the mindset of those who want to ban New Yorkers. Absolutely disgraceful.

Well sure, like the 1918 flu, that ended with a few million deaths. I'm sure that's a great comfort to everyone who lost a loved one to the Chink bat flu.
edited for bad grammar added archive link

Contrast that with a few days ago when their leadership was freaking the fuck out trying to pretend the Fed wasn't helping enough -- and then Cuomo was caught blatantly lying.

It's like Italy. Yeah, I am concerned and worried about them... but a month ago they were holding a "hug a chink to prove you ain't racist" event.

At what point do you say "ya know what, you keep voting for these fuckers, maybe you should enjoy the consequences of that."

New York City reports 2,461 new cases and 67 new deaths in morning update, raising state total to 48,486 cases and 670 dead

Wasn't it interesting that the sky-is-falling doomers got really vocal on a Friday, just as people might have been thinking 'fuck it. It's the weekend, we should do something fun?' Not saying there was any agenda to be scary to keep people from gathering, but it certainly looks that way.

For the record I'm not saying to ignore the warnings and just do whatever you want, but all the "Oooh the Boogeyman's coming everybody panic!" bullshit really needs to stop. It's insulting to those of us who can think for ourselves and it's just driving the stupid ones to do stupid things and be annoying about it.

I remember back in the 1990's when there was a long conversation about the need to open China up to the world because all of the Western institutions would start to slowly liberalize China over time and shake their government out of their totalitarian habits. The concern from the other side of the aisle was that China would, in fact, slowly destroy these institutions and bend them to their authoritarianism instead. Under the direction of Bill Clinton, America took a bet on the former.

We're well past the point where we can say that the experiment had any success. They've done so much damage to every institution that they've touched, that they're functionally just useless cheerleading squads for the Chinese government.

It's not all doom and gloom - here are some good news from France - Parisian rats trying to scurry to the countryside are being hunted down and get their heads smashed in / cars burned

☣Around 1 million Parisians left the city before the quarantine started. 20% of the population.
🔥 It raises concern as they could have carry the virus to the countryside, who was not contaminated yet. Turning this event into a mega-cluster.
✊🏻 Some groups of citizens formed to fight the Parisians, considered as invaders, as hipsters, metrosexuals and urbanites. Some have been assaulted. And cars with plates from Paris have been attacked or burned. In Brittany, a former terrorist group temporarily reformed to target Parisians.
📌 Context : In France, Parisians are hated. They are often seen as uprooted elites, hating the rest of France. The fact they are leaving their beloved ivory tower (Paris) to join the countryside with the risk of bringing the virus with them, is what caused the backlash.

Jesus and I thought shit was getting bad when after madrid sent us their sick then took everything from us people were thinking of making pro-decentralization statements and revolting against the cops taking our gear, and some guys in Jerez de la Frontera set a road on fire as a makeshift barricade... If my country had this kind of tension I'd say it would be about time it broke already and let areas turn independent. Hell, we almost broke multiple times yet ETA (our local terrorist group) has done nothing but political pressure and black market dealing and extortion for years now. France really is going to shit.

Had a conversation with my neighbor last night, from over a fence. She's a physical therapist who works at a hospital, her studio was converted into a triage area at the start of all this. Her position has been converted over to something having to do with administering drugs and supplies.

We live in a place that's reporting a fair number of confirmed cases and the local media has been reporting about hospitals being overwhelmed. A quote that keeps coming up is doctors are fighting hard to keep this from becoming NYC.

The hospital she works at is a pretty good one. They have an ER, they have an ICU, they have a cardiac unit and a burn unit that can be used to treat coronavirus patients. The staff is excellent including a few people who are preeminent in their fields. The hospital converted over common areas for patient treatment, the first floor is filled with beds where there used to be chairs and waiting rooms. There are a couple National Guard guys stationed at the entrance, they just sit there all day while cars pass.

She's a little frustrated because her hospital has no coronavirus cases - literally they have not seen a single one.

The place could not be more prepared but no one is sick, the ER is just seeing normal Darwin-award activity and that's it. They have been doing tests on some people, the results come back negative or indicate the patient already had the virus and it went away. They are part of a hospital network and none of their hospitals are anywhere near capacity. Some of them have cases, but most of the people who come to the ER are sent home and told to isolate. There's only a few serious cases anywhere in the network and they are under control, it looks like the patients will get through this.

Yet the local news is talking about it like we're swimming in a sea of death. I told her about the videos from China, we both wondered why we're not seeing anything like that. We both believe there are people with the virus out there, we don't understand why there's such a difference between what the media is saying and what's actually happening.

Does anyone have any actual videos from US healthcare facilities becoming overwhelmed? Why are we not seeing images of places breaking down like in NY / LA / Washington State?

Infection is propelled by internal contagion, which is decided by population density and size of the service industry, and external contagion, decided by commerce and turism.

Take into account how much better eastern europe is holding compared with western europe. It was stupid to close all of the USA simultaneously, it needed better organization. Areas will be affected at different rates and start contagion at different points, the USA is too big to not take that into account, but it didn't.

I didn't see this information posted (if so rate me late) but the number of urns for ashes indicates China is lying about the bat flu deaths. Again.

Via Google translate:
On the afternoon of March 26, 2020, a large truck stopped at the west entrance of Jingya Hall. The car was loaded with ashes from Hankou Funeral Home. The driver said that he had installed more than 2,500 ashes in this car. He had already unloaded the same number of cars yesterday.

And yet, somehow, that experiment was branded a 'success' in the 2000's at the same time China was stealing everything up to and including nuclear armament secrets.
That galaxy brain meme would have been really useful in the '90's.

It was that stupid fucking "End of History" meme that drove so much of this. We beat the dirty Reds, the Cold War was over, we now had proof that the Western liberal democratic capitalism was the ideal form for society! If we include the remaining oppressive regimes in our globalist power structures, they'll understand just how great we have it and work to change their countries to be just like ours!

And then for no reason at all, America elected Donald Trump.

I joke, but you really gotta hand it to the guy, he's been calling out these bad trade deals and globalist pipe dreams for decades now. This pandemic vindicates him on basically everything that he campaigned on: strong borders, stopping illegal immigration (harder to determine how many infected are in an area if you don't have accurate population counts), returning industry to domestic shores, and above all standing up to China. The media are trying desperately to smear him with a bad pandemic response to stop his reelection chances, but considering the public is generally in favor of how he's handling things, I think he's in a fine position. I won't count my chickens before they hatch, anything could happen, but if the best the Dems can put up is Sleepy Joe (currently in hiding), I don't think he's going to have much of a problem.

I hate all these assholes who are quarantining for their kids. Goddammit kids are fucking fine. Other people, who are more susceptible, are coming in to do your job for you.
KYes, how dare parents care for their children during a national crisis. The horrible, selfish fuckers. They should all be slaving over a desk so you can get a nice vacation.
