Shit is getting real dicey over in New York City. I am hearing reports that gang recruitment is soaring as they offer refuge for people with nothing to lose. The video footage that has leaked out is even more concerning as young men are doing what they feel is necessary to get what they need for their families. I am not sure how the city is going to recover from this. Worse still is that as bad as it is for young men, young women are going to get caught in the middle of a lot of this shit. We will be feeling this for a generation or two.

Not only in New York City but elsewhere in the world. The mafia in Italy jumped on this opportunity as well.

Well that's really encouraging compared to the nonsense I heard from a news channel last night. I kid you not, that one of their anchors/"reporters" said that the death toll in the US could rise up to 200,000. Last I checked, the number was about 2,000.

Predictions about what the actual totals will be, at this point, have proven to be bullshit. One week, we got someone from the UK saying that 60% of the population was going to be infected, and that millions of people around the globe would die. This week, that same guy says he did the math wrong, and that things don't look nearly as bleak.

Now we have the media predicting 200k people will die. Okay? Based on what? Based on "Orange Man Bad"? If the death toll in the US hits 200k, then that would solely be lucky guessing from the media, and nothing more. There's nothing science-based on those type of predictions.

The numbers that actually matter are what's happening right now, whether it be good news or bad news. We got some encouraging numbers from a state that got pounded by Corona Chan, and we're continuously getting bad numbers from New York. Based on these facts, I think I can make the prediction that a good portion of the country will return back to normal long before a densely populated state like New York would.

What I'm trying to say is that I think a good portion of the country will be able to "get back to work" to get the economy going again at some level, while other states may not be so lucky. Every state is probably going to have their own timelines when regarding the virus and the economic recovery, is what I'm getting from the good reports from Louisiana.

So. Good news don't stop coming. While the Big Bizs get ultrapissy that they actually won't be able to dodge the law to keep enslaving people on stupid shit for 10 days on which they were supposed to be quarantined, the PYMEs (reminder: that means "Pequeñas Y Medianas Empresas", or translated "Small And Medium Businesses", so, self employed, mom and pops, startups, indies and the like) which either adapted to telecommuting or decided to aid the arms race against corona are starting to see the increased revenue and becoming stronger. And while our farmers couldn't emigrate to france and germany to till their fields, ours also couldn't hire moroccans and are now putting a call to hire spaniards, so it seems unemployment is gonna go down next week and while IBEX (our version of the DOW) keeps plumetting due to the Big Bizs bullshit the lower classes seem to actually be getting STRONGER economically. Which is specially important because due to some horrid lawmaking the Big Bizzes don't pay almost anything in taxes compared to the PYMEs. So if the government doesn't really actively fuck it up, we might even be in place to start exporting aid en masse once the ICUs start being freed.

It was actually the British doing it on purpose, the Spaniards expanded smallpox only through good old stupidity. Fun times ahead. The base has gone from 9 gates down to 5, with only one being commercial. No more visitor passes. Everyone must have ID and be screened coming onto base. Only personel deemed mission essential can come in. All training shut down. All ranges shut down. PT is completely on your own, but the gyms are shut down. If even an iota of this is true, then I want Trump to issue a permanent travel ban to AND from China whenever all of this is over. Suspend any trade deals indefinitely, too. I've seen conspiratards posting these photos/videos as proof that the entire epidemic is a fake, and that The Powers That Be have duped the world's population into staying indoors and fearfully isolating from each other so they can carry out some nefarious plot or other. Completing the 5G rollout is one; rendering the world's population willing to accept mandatory vaccines (which will include, or actually be, a subdermal microchip tracking device, depending on the conspiratard), is another.

I did see one such video of the hospital closest to me, in which the guy filming it remarked on how there were no cars parked on the streets or in the lots anywhere around it--well duh, all of the staff and visitor parking is in a vast underground garage; the large parking lot adjoining the hospital doesn't even belong to it (and has signs posted to that effect); and there is no on-street parking in the immediate vicinity of the hospital, which he would have noticed had he read the signs and had there been normal levels of traffic. And of course there was nobody coming and going through the usual public entrances because no visitors are allowed.

As for why there are no videos of overcrowded ICUs in the US flooded with coronavirus patients (another thing the conspiratards jump to the worst conclusions about), I've seen that question asked in this very thread, and since no medifags have answered it yet, I'm going to venture that taking video of patients without their consent (or even knowledge) and posting it online, constitutes a HIPAA violation. Other countries (such as Italy) may not have such strict patient privacy laws, so that's why video has come from there.

I agree. HIPAA is very serious business in the US. If you so much as look up at a monitor at a nursing station because you were bored, the staff at most hospitals will shoo you away. "Oh no, you can't look at that! That has other patients' private health info!"

I'm not surprised there's no footage coming out of US hospitals.

An old friend died of COVID last night. He was a healthy man and young. His wife is currently on a vent as well. He died within 5 days of admission. Was using every protocol to keep safe.. his family wont be able to see him be laid to rest or even know when they even can get his body or.. if

The US decided on an 18 month contract with 3m for masks. Which should already tell you at minimum they expect to deal with this during flu season next year, at its worst they expect us all to live like this the next year and a half (not actually quarantined. We will be doing what china did. Come late June we celebrate theaters open back up a few mild cases and deaths from a small 2nd wave, october we get a few warnings, then the election happens and then the US gov says "oh yeah that flu's back" sometime around January if they care more about businesses than people. And then we get to go through all this again. But sort of differently because everyone is sort of prepared now. And then it goes away rather quickly around may. And that extra 4 months is to replenish stockpiles.
