Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Today's numbers for Poland 2055 infected (+193), 31 dead (+9). Noteworthy and positive thing, we're getting aid from abroad. The Vietnamese community in Poland and a company that is probably the biggest player in the instant noodle sector here, funded 4100 tests + hazmat suits and disposable gloves which were delivered yesterday and will be distributed among the hospitals. That's nice.
Good to know everyone is chipping in, we need that. Today was also the second day in a row with a decrease in day-to-day number of detections and by far the lowest percentage rise so far. A few more days like that and we're off the exponential curve at least for a while.

For those curious, out of the 31 dead, all but two had co-morbidities. Average age is 68, median - 71. No surprises here.

According to some politicians there will be more restrictions announced tomorrow once the Senat shitshow is over. Not sure what else they can do though, short of actual curfew.

What the fuck
We still got these fucking loonies ruining it for everyone.

"We brought in 13 machines that basically kill every virus in the place," Howard-Browne said. "If they sneeze it shoots it down like at 100 miles per hour and it will neutralize it in a split second.""

Oh my god what the fuck is he talking about this is the dumbest shit and I love it if it wasnt endangering more people. I get his argument about churches providing essential support, but jeez dude cramming everyone together for an airborne virus is a recipe for disaster, just do it online you cuck.

Good news boys.

Give him the chair.

Oh, sweet, he can do it from jail. *badumtish*

Posting local mirrors for a number of video clips referenced earlier in the thread:

I'm sure that person's fine.

That looks like fun!

Yeah... that is a very tilted train.

brrrr

I wonder what they're dreaming about. Some nice bush meat soup, you think?

Count on chinese workers to be straight-laced about quality control. Would you say they sold their soles to the CCP? I'd say whoever leaked this video is a shoe-in for "re-education!"

Okay. No more shoe puns, I promise.

Putting the unique sanitizing properties of police gear to good use.

Special on, uh... whatever's left.

Hot deals in exotic locations!

April is going to be interesting...

Italy reports 4,050 new cases of coronavirus and 812 new deaths, raising total to 101,739 cases and 11,591 dead.

There are people in the Twitter comments mentioning that Italy is merely reducing the number of people tested and not "flattening the curve".

ITALY TESTING.png

Idk if this is because fewer people are going out or they are only choosing to test serious cases or if they're running out of tests altogether.

Thunkful or no?

How hard is it for some people to understand the elective surgery ban? This is not the time for a pro-choice protest. If the ban remains when the pandemic is over, go nuts.
I'm joking about the DIY abortion thing. I hope no one does that. Not only is it dangerous, it would give the itty bitty abortion committee more to complain about during a worldwide crisis.

medical abortions are still available. clinics are outpatient so I don't see any reason to close them.

Alright let's try this again. The guy in the video is very obviously partisan. You may enjoy the video better on mute.

But that hospital definitely doesn't look like it is overrun and a "warzone" in the way some of the media have described it. For the staff inside I imagine this is quite stressful and difficult to be going through. But the media are not talking about the doctors when they try to scare the public with Warzone Hospital 2020.

This illustrates the fru. We get no ER footage, when we always get ER footage. Everybody is pitching a narrative, but nobody is reporting on what is actually happening on the ground. Instead all we get is trash like “Coronavirus, much worse for Troons” articles. This is a situation where the public needs to be shown, not told.

HIPAA, no visitors, no cameras. workers can't record. the parking lot at our hospital is nearly empty.
ICU is full.

I'm wondering how the fentanyl is holding out.

gone. they're working with old timey drugs up there.

Again? If it's assumed to be Covid that killed them why even bother to take anything other than minor sampling to determine that. If you can discreetly puncture lung tissue to biopsy after death and determine from that and mucus easily collected otherwise. I don't see why you'd be cracking open a body to look at the lungs. Whose the one directing you to do that?

A lot of hospital related deaths aren't autopsied at all. Autopsy rates in America are around 8.5%. Unless there are concerns as a result of a healthy younger people who died or death under suspicious circumstances they usually aren't done. Many hospital deaths of older people especially with co-morbidity are just declared and picked up by a funeral home. Autopsy is not the standard in most cases. Unless you're making the claim that there's a mass government cover-up and this is en-mass killing young people. A 60+ year old dying from respiratory problems when there's a world wide pandemic would not even be recommended for autopsy, it'd probably just be considered the cause of death anyway. Autopsying them would be a waste of resources.

If it is en-mass killing perfectly healthy young people how exactly are they covering it up? You can't slap Little Johnny with heart failure as a COD and think his family is gonna be cool with that when they know he was perfectly healthy. You don't just get to keep bodies either. That's a good way to make people real angry if you prevent them from having access to their deceased loved ones.

You've also been saying repeatedly that the dead aren't being tested so?

That's not what you claimed?

You're saying someone who works on the floor you work on decided to purposely eat lunch in a different area where patients known to have Corona are? then came down to your lab? but you were only quarantined after they showed up in the ICU with symptoms.

A colleague, that works on your floor, who went out of the way to go to another floor to eat lunch around active corona patients who is now in ICU that came down to your lab without a mask on. Which makes you just as at risk as anyone else?

Hospital morgues are never on the same floor as places where patients might wander because America likes to keep death out of sight and mind, so the messy nature of it is hidden from public eyes. So your colleague really went out of their way to go somewhere they'd be exposed.

You made this post

on Friday. No test, unless you get symptoms.

View attachment 1208668
on Sunday you made this post. You've now had a test and tested negative and will be back to work. What changed? did you start showing symptoms? and if that's the case you're still sick with something that is giving you similar symptoms?

The Tuesday before, March 24th, you made this post

Where you claim they are only testing those who are symptomatic, you also claim at this point you've been tested and it was negative. So you've now been tested twice? and both times you were negative? the only indication of a symptom you had was a sore throat, as per your post on the 22nd

So if you can get test based on a mild sore throat, they really aren't being that picky. Whereas all your other posts make it seem like it's a big problem and not enough people are getting tested because of lack of tests and requiring multiple symptoms. Yet they've tested you twice; once when you had a sore throat and once when you no apparent system but were possibly expose but not giving the very minimum of fives days.

Again. If they're just going to lie about it anyway from your claims and are putting pressure on you to under-report why would they even bother to have this done? Especially when you're repeatedly made claims they are not testing the dead.

That's a pretty big numbers difference, there, if you're trying to further state that you aren't under-reporting but the media is, so I ask again. If you aren't lying and they just not correctly reporting. What is going on the death certificates for these young healthy people you claim are dying if not Covid? because if there's some massive cover-up of cause of death that's a much bigger problem. Not to mention if it's all these healthy young people the families attached to them aren't going to be too happy with a death certificate that doesn't add up.

You also claim

So you're a small city with an, I assume, rural hospital by the 'we' that doesn't have much of an ICU but you have a department for autopsy and were doing autopsy in the time of a known pandemic when you are being pressured to under-report and know they were not testing the dead.

You've been coming in making claims that enough hasn't been done and it's going to get bad, really bad, now you're backpedaling and saying it'll peak because of what's been done. Your comments on test availability, testing of the dead, etc flip flop. You push the 'young healthy people are getting sick' and you're seeing too many otherwise young, healthy people on your table. You repeatedly come in making commentary about how bad it is, you talk about the ways you've been exposed, yet you've managed to get tested and been negative twice. You smoke and you make posts about how you're thinking well maybe you won't go back, you'll take your sick days, then you're 'diving right back into the fray'

All your information is just vague enough to be possible to not PL yourself but could also be gleaned from information released to the public.

I am vague. don't wanna PL and don't want to say where I'm working. not going to talk about what city I'm working in.

they get tests. then they don't. we've had three batches come in, I've managed to get tested. lucky me.
guidelines at first were symptoms+exposure
then just exposure to someone positive, once tests arrived.

they just tested everyone that works with that fucker. there's only a few of us in the basement.

yes, he went upstairs, to see a friend who works on the main floor, where there's beds set up. he ate at a cafe that's up there and got sick a few days later. spent those few days working. using his locker in the locker area. drinking coffee in our break room. all of it.

yes I smoke. something's gotta get you eventually.

I'm still wishing I could take the sick days. I really, really don't want to be there. I should save them though.

state numbers were being under reported, and now are a bit delayed. systems are catching up; stay-at-home is slowing things just enough. our peak will likely be this coming week as the last of the exposed people from before that order, get sick.

they're not testing the dead. we are taking samples for later testing. numbers may change as that begins to happen.

I think local gov has handled it well, but slowly.
a lot changes in a week. EVERY week, with this.

I don’t think the young folks of London are going to make it through a three month (or longer) lockdown through the summer without acting out, but I really hope I am doing them a disservice there.

London is a powder keg waiting for someone to light the tinder. It was like that before this virus shit. Things just got a whole lot drier.

I used to live in Brixton. A black area of south london. It wasn't unusual to come home from work and not be able to catch the bus because of the odd mini-riot that you never heard about on the news.

There was serious social discontent a few years ago and all it takes is somone to light the touch paper. Riots and whatnot also follow an exponential trajectory once instigated/initialized. Pretty soon they are all at it. Just like herd animals. Blood in the water. Sensing fear...

Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid day sun, so the saying goes. Hot weather doesn't help. I've experienced it myself. In fact, in Brixton some guy hit me with his car when I was carrying shopping home, so I proceeded to boot the fuck out of his car doors. Black fella. Probably not the most wise thing I've done. But that is the summer heat for you. He just drove off thinking man these crackers be crazy.

It's not just the blacks of course. Whitey has his share of scum as well. Both are a problem if things rise up.

There's a couple of things going on here. One, there are opportunities to be had by gaming the system however it can be gamed (think a little bit like buying up alll the TP but more devious again). Two, there is real danger of the animals sensing a breakdown in the rule of law and taking advantage accordingly. Lots of disaffected youts in London. They are feral. God help us if they ever get the upper hand or even sense that they might have it.

These things don't really bare thinking about at the moment. Hopefully it won't be a hot summer. Hopefully this virus will play itself out before hand and the quarantine shit can be pulled back before the real wild animals of the herd start to get cabin fever. Or sense weakness.

Already the police are stupidly saying they will not be arresting people short of murders being done. They are too busy out shaming people going for a walk. They are even policing shops that are selling fucking Easter Eggs because, well, Easter Eggs, you got a loisence for that (they aren't essential you see). So you can be robbed and they won't attend at the best of times, and now they have the perfect excuse while they are out policing what corner shops sell. Just when you think your opinion of the police can't get any lower.

The last time we had serious riots here in that long hot summer the police kind of stood down as well. There was some dispute with wages beforehand and they took a more laissez-faire attitude than they needed to. They had to pull it back in the end, but not before things got out of hand. The police are a political institution as much as anything else. And they are also one of the biggest baddest gangs on the block. When they want to be.

It's not diving off too far in to la la land to think that something could happen to tip the balance or cause that spark to be lit at some point with all of this. And once the feral scum sense fear, or just sense that they have the upper hand in some way (numbers), then it will be a free for all the likes we have not seen in our lifetime.

I pity anyone caught up in that situation should it arise.

This piece of news wouldn't be nearly as infuriating to read if the leadership in Florida had, at least, closed the beaches during Spring Break two weeks ago.

Florida is definitely going to be one of those states who are going to get absolutely fucked by Corona. Probably going to become the next New York in another week or two.
It's already looking nasty down in Broward and Miami-Dade counties ... combined they've got about 2,700 cases total now. It's definitely a major hot spot and it'll get worse before it gets better.

Sorry if someone already mentionned that article here or in another thread but I saw this article via a topic on City-Data forums who mentionned the lost of 21 million cell phone users who could be a clue to an higher death rate in China thanks to corona-chan.

https://www.theepochtimes.com/the-c...gest-a-high-ccp-virus-death-toll_3281291.html

The number of Chinese cellphone users dropped by 21 million in the past three months, Beijing authorities announced on March 19. Deaths due to the CCP virus may have contributed to the high number of account closings.
Cellphones are an indispensable part of life in China.
“The digitization level is very high in China. People can’t survive without a cellphone,” Tang Jingyuan, a U.S.-based China affairs commentator, told The Epoch Times on March 21. “Dealing with the government for pensions and social security, buying train tickets, shopping … no matter what people want to do, they are required to use cellphones.

Sadly, various twats disagree. Momentum will start it's shrieking soon saying the pandemic is "political" and thus requires "political solutions".

GMB is threatening to have all its hospital cleaners walk out and go on strike unless they get more money. Lewisham for now, but how long until O'Connor extends that to all her members? For not meeting their demand of all services being returned to the NHS so they can get more money?

Rebecca Dong-Faily, the trout mouthed bitch is trying to make shit political by demanding to know how to win their demands.

Scum always floats to the top in a crisis. It's a shame these cunts won't get a moment of reckoning.

So, a twist on that chloroquine fish tank cleaner tale that the news was breathlessly reporting on a week or so ago...

The Arizona woman who said that she and her 68-year-old husband ingested a substance used to clean fish tanks after hearing President Donald Trump tout chloroquine as a cure for the coronavirus has given thousands of dollars to Democratic groups and candidates over the last two years.

The woman's most recent donations, in late February, were to a Democratic PAC
, the 314 Action Fund, that bills itself as the "pro-science resistance" and has vocally criticized the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus pandemic and held up her case to slam the White House.
Federal Election Commission records show that Wanda has donated thousands of dollars to Democratic electoral groups and candidates over the past two years, including Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and EMILY's List, a group that aims to elect pro-choice female candidates.
Wanda told the Free Beacon that she and her husband were both Democrats, not Trump supporters. They heard about the potential benefits of chloroquine, an antimalarial drug, in news reports. She decided at the "spur of the moment" to try taking it, but reached for a fish tank cleaner in her pantry that contains chloroquine phosphate, a different and deadly form of the chemical. The Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency authorization for the use of chloroquine to treat coronavirus on Sunday.
"We weren't big supporters of [Trump], but we did see that they were using it in China and stuff," Wanda told the Free Beacon. "And we just made a horrible, tragic mistake," she said. "It was stupid, and it was horrible, and we should have never done it. But it's done and now I've lost my husband. And my whole life was my husband."
In her first national news interview, Wanda told NBC News that she took the fish tank cleaner in a tragically botched attempt to follow medical advice that Trump had relayed in a press conference earlier that week.

"We saw Trump on TV—every channel—and all of his buddies and that this was safe," she said last Monday. "Trump kept saying it was basically pretty much a cure."

During a press briefing on March 19, the president pointed to medical studies indicating that chloroquine, a medication used to treat malaria, may be a "game changer" in treating the coronavirus. Wanda warned others in the same NBC News interview not to "believe anything that the president says."

simply put I'm the autopsy assistant; path lab/epidemiology dept.

we take samples, run tests and do diagnostic work on anyone died who needs a CoD.

I started out in a different capacity but have been doing more over time in this department. End goal is medical examiner's office.

We aren't actually as heavily exposed as people are who are doing bronchiscopy, intubation, and personal care for the sick. Our patients aren't breathing or coughing at us, the only fluid exposure we have is if we do any cranial inspection (bone saws make micro spray). We're a lot less at risk.

I was only exposed because some fucking idiot decided to eat lunch or something upstairs where there's live, infected people and then come waltzing around the path lab without a mask on. morons. the living are morons.

so my exposure was actually an infected colleague, not a patient or a body. I'm not on the real front lines. I'm the rear guard.
we won't be doing anything but lung specimens after this though- when I get back tomorrow the protocol now is to do a slide of lung, mucus membrane, eye, and liver. nothing more. so it'll be assembly line from here on out.

the state is on lockdown so we should hit our peak this week or next, then hopefully it slows down before we get to the cordwood-stack stage of this.

edited to add: we were pressured, covertly, to under report. we are not doing that.

So, you've been sectioning the lungs and the liver. What about sectioning the heart to look for histopathological changes associated with myocarditis? What about the kidneys? What about the testicles? What about the parasympathetic nerves of the lungs, the vagus nerve, and the cardiorespiratory center of the medulla? What about the olfactory bulb?

This virus is suspected to be neurotropic. It can climb the nerves of the lungs, right into the vagus nerve, and right into the medulla. Critical patients have dysautonomia and loss of automatic breathing, and possibly even arrhythmia associated with vagus nerve dysfunction.

All the way back in February, I was concerned that autopsies would fail to reveal the anatomy of the disease if people kept assuming it was "just pneumonia" and removed and sectioned only the lungs from cadavers. Now, it is becoming apparent that I had valid reason to be worried.

Gathering the tissues is, in itself, dangerous, dirty, difficult work. You have my sympathies.

Loads of stuff gets ignored by pharma companies because it's not profitable. For example, people have been saying for ages that not enough new antibiotics are being introduced. Antibiotic resistance is getting worse but it's hard to make a financial case for working on a drug that is probably going to be kept in reserve until the shit hits the fan.

https://web.archive.org/web/2020030...s-upend-the-incentive-structure-experts-urge/

There ought to be a consortium of rich country governments incentivizing the creation of new antibiotics by offering prize money, or longer patent rights, or both, to companies that succeed. Up to COVID19 no one was putting money into treatments for things like SARS or MERS because they were both seen as predicted catastrophes that never actually happened. Well OK, not quite nobody. Remdesvir was developed for Ebola and Marburg virus. It seems like it got through clinical trials which means it's safe-ish but turned out not to be too effective against Ebola. Still, it might work against Corona (archive).

I suspect we're going to be in the shit until it's possible to computationally design drugs to fit a receptor. At that point, once you sequenced the genome of an organism and worked out the shape of its proteins, whether by X-ray crystallography or even computationally, you could then engineer your drug to have the right shape to bind to those proteins and hopefully stop them from working as part of the virus or bacteria's life cycle.

God tier medical technology would be that someone sequences the genome of the organism, other people on the Internet work out which proteins are best to target and then some drug companies burn a whole load of GPU cycles working out which compound will do that and the winner gets patents and government prize money. And then you'd go into a telescoped approval process to make sure the compound doesn't gum up anything else.
Nobody creates antibiotics, they collect them from natural sources then copy them.
IIRC the last new one they found was being produced by a moss that had been growing on a rock for around 2,000 years.

Here's a video that describes that people in Wuhan complained that the quarantine is too long:

Thanks to Corona-chan, homeschool is more popular and that made the guys of the Washington Post aka Washington Compost angry. Styx and some Youtubers talked about this.

Things in India are about to explode. Panicking people fleeing from cities to countryside in hopes to escape from the coronavirus.

With NYC under lockdown, the governer has been pitching a bitch-fit because several other states have been actively barricading their states against people trying to cross the border into other states for reasons obvious, and Rhode Island in particular because they've had their National Guard detachments looking for NYC Quarantine breakers. This is hilarious because NYC got sanctioned right about the time the outbreak began for illegally shipping its homeless population out of the state.

Can I just say that I love that the Indian police are beating people with sticks if they don't stay home. It's like fucking herding cattle.

you’re nitpicking him, yet you yourself display a remarkable degree of ignorance regarding how health and hospitals work. You’re playing gotcha over absurd points. And yeah, they don’t hide the morgues where nobody can find them because Americans are squeamish. The morgue goes an the lowest floor with direct outside access via service doors. You have to be able to wheel the deceased out to the transport vehicle. And it is idiotic to put it someplace that requires you use the elevators to do so as it disrupts patient care. The morgue is also pretty heavy given it’s refrigeration needs and requires an outside component for the refrigerators. So yeah, ground floor rear is where they go. This has been the common practice since the 19th century. Form equals function with hospital design. Oh and similarly many hospitals will put the public cafeteria or eating areas on the same floor as the main entrance. Typically this will be the same floor as the ER, and depending on the age and size of the hospital it will either have 1-2 regular med/surg patient wards (older and smaller) or Day Surgery (newer) .

Things in India are about to explode. Panicking people fleeing from cities to countryside in hopes to escape from the coronavirus.

India is fucking doomed. Bat SARS sheds in feces. Widespread open defecation means they're FUCKED.

If your tap water has high coliform counts from other people's shit, and you drink it, and it has SARS-CoV-2 in it, you're FUCKED.
