Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

I actually prefer the ocean dub voice. It could be the direction, too, but the ocean dub actor seems to be more into the moment while the Sean/Funimation Dub, it feels more like a guy ripping off lines as a job.

Keep that in mind that it goes back to this post.

BUT I WAS A SHITTY HOMELESS STREET MUSICIAN WAAAHHHH DBZ SAVED MUH LIIIIIFFFEEEE I ALMOST OVERSOSED HAHA FUCKING FAGGY FAGGOTS.
It's been said before but it will be said again.

Sean Schmuckel was at the right place at the right time as his jazz career fell apart and he landed that sweet sweet VA job weebs dreamt of having. All while his marriage with his first wife fell apart because she felt ashamed his job involved voicing Chinese cartoons. His failure to land a big hit with his saxophone wasn't cutting it when his ex-wife saw thru him and realized he wasn't making enough to pay the bills playing at bars. That eventually ended in a divorce and him spiraling down alcoholism. Those same Chinese cartoons he looked down on would eventually score him that sweet Ferrari we see in videos and fans who'd grovel at his feet for an autograph. All the while he still looked down on the fans and the one thing that kept him fed and landed a new wife.

And it's still going to be funny because all Schmuckel had to do was stop being a bitter fuck and appreciate what he has.

Yeah I've noticed a lot of the popular hit animes haven't been Funimation lately

Bless you.
Again, those “big dubs every anime fan is talking about” seem to be random and happen every few years. I’d say it’s more luck of the draw.

Keep that in mind that it goes back to this post.

You know, there’s a movie/sweet redemption story in there. Sucks Sean has to ruin it.

Schemmel's an absolute tool for Sabat but if there's even a faintest characteristic about him that I respect, it's his honesty about his dislike of certain people. You should be wary of people who hold knives behind their back, not the ones who hold it over their heads at you.

The vid is already posted in TUG's thread, but we should address it here.
TUG apparently tried to blacklist Emosh and he wanted to create a fake GFM attack on Vic's GFM, but the idea got shot down by the other ISWV Youtuber.
I will add the DMs in a later post.

To add onto this he, Sabat and pretty much everyone originally were only hired because they were considered "the best" when it came to trying to impersonate the Ocean Dub actors. It wasn't until the Android arc that they actually started hiring based off any sort of actual talent.

Ironic considering the Ocean Dub of the Android - Buu arcs would try to imitate the Funimation actors.

The big animes that have come out recently have been a while back Seven Deadly Sins, somewhat recently Interspecies reviewers, and more recently Beastars. Bang Zoom did the first, Funi dropped Reviewers and Beastars was dubbed by Netflix.

Don't know how good is the USA dub, but the Mexican one of Beastars is pretty good.

When will these people learn that KickVic doesn't need help with their exceptionalism?
There is no need to fabricate anything when KickVic falls into their own pitfalls?
It's just dumb.
If you ever read this, TUG, the clown show writes itself. Learn to sit back and watch the fireworks.
Oh, wait. You DO say that. Kind of makes you a hypocrite, doesn't it?

I liked the video up until he told me to subscribe to senpai. Fuck senpai, the opportunistic little manlet cunt. Those DMs are just more proof he likes to douse people in gasoline and then set them ablaze for his own enjoyment and clout. Him and TUG can suck a fat one, the bellends. Otherwise besides that, vid was pretty informative.

Something my friend pointed out to me today. This entire situation has been going on for over a year now and in that time, funimation didn't pick up any of the shows that generated a lot of attention. Outside of MHA none of their dubs have generated any attention.

Isn’t that dubs in general and the breaks of the industry? I mean, anime is a niche , and the big dubs that get the fandom really going only seem to happen every few years and is pretty random from what I’ve seen. Before MHA, it was Sword Art Online, and before that it was Attack on Titan. It feels like dubs are really hit and miss in terms of getting popular.

Simple, it's like with every seasonal line-up: Only a few shows ever get popular at a time, but then they start dropping off people's radars after another season or two. If a show doesn't have long-term exposure like MHA or Black Clover, people aren't going to remember them unless the show does something fantastic. Like you'll still hear people bring up Death Parade years after the fact because it's original, had a kick-ass OP that people memed basically to death (ha!), and people remember when shows made them cry, but interestingly, the dub doesn't come up in discussion. In fact, you bring up a good point because I really haven't heard people talking about Fruits Basket when it comes to the dub, when I can guarantee you most of the audience who saw the original 2001 anime saw it dubbed. Like... Funimation managed to bring back a lot of the original voice-actors, but apparently that wasn't enough to get people to watch it dubbed because the sub was available easily first for three episodes.

I think it's worth mentioning that dubs only get brought up if they're excellent, or if the person saw the dub first. This was much more likely to happen back in the day up until the late-2000s since at the time only the most dedicated went out of their way to track down fan-subs, and even then, fan-subs weren't always complete.

Don't know how good is the USA dub, but the Mexican one of Beastars is pretty good.

I'm happy with it. It has Lara Jill Miller as Haru, she hasn't been in an anime for a little over a decade now, so it's really refreshing to hear her again.

Okay. I'm just saying things like Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online and My Hero Academia are the dubs that people would talk about for MONTHS and you'd see merch for those titles at places like Hot Topic. And Funimation not having anything on that level isn't really karma as it is a game of chance.

From what I've seen, dubs only get remembered if they're like Cowboy Bebop...or if they're like 4Kids.

Cowboy Bebop's dub is considered the gold standard of what dubs should be like, hence why it's still being talked about. 4KIDS' dubs were all over the place besides their infamous censorship, but they'll continue to live on in memory because they were the last bastion of New York voice-work when Central Park Media went defunct, and they brought on beloved voice-actors who have continued to make names for themselves. And also, I like to believe they were the Enron of the anime industry (down to the CEO, Al Kahn, jumping ship with the money), but more kid-friendly lol.

Key component here is leaving an impression, either good or bad.

This video is a mess and they're reporting on some disagreement from almost a year ago.

@11:12 - "On April 26th, 2019, TUG posted this video claiming Vic Mignogna's GoFundMe is being attacked. Two days later, on April 28th, 2019, TUG continues to make the claim that the GoFundMe is under attack and Emosh disagrees."

The GoFundMe was actually under attack. Jamie Marchi's Discord had a #gofundme-evidence-nick section where they worked on trying to get the GoFundMe taken down.

She Devil = Jamie Marchi
ImThatBitch = Dominique Skye

ImThatBitch: @She Devil has gofundme gotten back to you?? When should we start reporting?

The person who leaked these, @DBZUk_kamehouse, was only in the Discord from February-March, so they were going after the GoFundMe from it's inception.

Using year old nothingburgers to create your own nothingburger. The creator of this video and the regulars in TUG's thread all deserve a thread of their own, they're more fun to watch than TUG himself.

I will give TUG one thing, the idea his negative feelings about Ren are simply glossed over as arbitrary is ridiculus whether she did anything to him personally since kv started or not.
