Tbh the NUS has been an absolute hotbed for this sort of shit for years. I left university 10 years ago and they were pulling proto SJW stunts when I was there. Where I studied, in my 1st year, the Christian Society was nearly banned because they left flyers advertising an event in people's accommodation which was apparently anti LGBT. My wife's uni tried to ban Goldie Lookin Chain from playing a prom because of transphobia in their song "Your mother's got a penis"

Take a special look at Motion 402, Motion 502 (the title sounds nice, but read the details), and the very last one.

I don't know much about how the UK works, if these motions are just feel good ideas, or if they're actually binding on colleges and their student unions.

That last one is downright cringeworthy goddamn. And the Time "article" used as a "source" of information is a real eye-roller. Hint: if you want to be taken seriously, do not use a self-righteous opinion piece where the comments are tearing the author's bullshit to shreds as a source of "information" for your argument.

There are two things that give me hope about these people;

1. They are literally so pathetic that none of them will ever get to a situation where they are able to effect real change.

I live in the UK and honestly the NUS just seems to peddle these things. Apparently this whole 'jazz-hands' idea came from Oxford though I can't confirm that right now.

They're also responsible for the statistic "1 in 3 women recieve unwanted sexual comments/contact" which the guardian reported as 'sexual touching'. The study only included 200 women, which is a pretty poor sample as far as statistics go. They're probably the most prominent SJW hotbed over here, with almost every college / uni being a part of them.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. I used to really like the British when I was younger. I liked the Royals, I liked the men and women that created one of the largest empires to ever exist and I liked the upstanding, refined culture that they had.
Having seen such a mighty empire reduced to a small island that can barely call itself a United Kingdom any more... it's heart breaking. They've been infested by a kind of people who want to see their own history and culture torn down in the name of "progress". These people... how can one person have no much self-loathing? How can they hate their own ancestors so much? It boggles the mind.

Not really, they are more likely to feed the Green Party as there is a view that Labor is just the Tory's with different coloured ties.

And again not really unless your from Oxford or Cambridge your unlikely to be in any really powerful position, back in the 60's an 70's when unions had power you could really go places without the right kind of upper class schooling an access to the old boy network but today your more likely to get to mid level at most then stay there for the rest of your political life, the unelected ambulatory sponges known as the royal family who are supposed to have no power politically have more influence than you when it comes to policy than people who haven't been to the right school nowadays.

What's happen in the UK at least is that when this sort of SJW bollocks goes mainsteam, it gets ridiculed for what it is by the vast majority of people. Even traditional anti establishment/lefty people. There was a recent open letter into the NUS trying to ban certain speakers (basically Feminists who aren't pro transgender people) from British Universities. The Condemnation was pretty much universal about the attempted ban, and the backlash against signatories like renowned gay rights activist Peter Tatchell getting called a bigot and receiving death threats for supporting freedom of speech exposed a lot of the SJW crowd for being just as bad as the people they supposedly oppose.
