Food You're Not Really Sure Anyone Even Buys

Applesauce, sugarcubes, coffeem*lk, cherry jam, potato's, salad... vegetarian fake meat.. are the things I see that are not disired much.

Vegetarian/Vegan "fake meat" stuff is VERY hit or miss. It's either godawful, ok, or (rarely) pretty good. By far the best brand i've found for fake meat is Fieldroast, their celebration roast is amazing fried up with some onions and garlic.
Vegan cheese is another matter. It generally is unpalatable but I found that melting it (ala grilled cheese) can actually make a decent sandwich with some seasoning.

I've always wondered what kind of people buy the souse meat or pickled olive loaf...yuck! Also peeps and circus peanuts are disgusting.

The rind is hard and inedible, inside is a white flesh which is crispy but the taste can range dreadfully from 'ok' sweet to deathly bitter without any visible indication of how ripe the fruit is. The center holds the seeds held together with the soft jelly like stuff that we see in cucumbers (I can't think of the proper words at the moment)

Most Koreans cut up the whole thing into slices and also skin it. All in all its way too much effort for little payoff taste wise.

I wonder if that is the "Vine Peach" that a lot of gardening catalogs give away with every order. I grew those once; they smelled nice, kind of cucumber-melony, but they were small, hard, and had a lot of seeds.

There are a lot of things that Americans rarely use that aren't meant to be eaten alone, and this must be one of them.

A couple of years ago I celebrated Christmas with friends that are hardcore vegans. They had bought a vegan christmas ham, it looked like a small american football, had the same color and was outrageously expensive. When eating it the vegans were amazed, "it tastes just like real ham". It did not, it had the weird smokey and slightly metallic taste of a leather belt. It wasn't as tough to chew as a leather belt but it had the coarse and gritty texture that can be found on the backside of one.

They should market it as "vegan edible leather", a completely unique vegan food product that breaks away from the usual meat imitations like vegan sausage, vegan steak, vegan meatballs, vegan hamburger... they wouldn't be able to charge 90 bucks for it though.

Most boomers still believe that fat is the source of all health problems. Some of went to the extreme and have tried to have no-fat diets. However, they still want to eat fatty foods...

It's gross but we all know who's buying this stuff and that's extraordinarily lazy people. I don't even think being poor is a factor in it because you can still do a lot better than this for the same amount of money you'd be spending on these things. Even spam is miles ahead of the "meat" they put in that stuff. It's just laziness plain and simple.

Any of those Dinty Moore and equivalent canned goods are unappetizing even from the pictures. I suspect a lot of people are buying them under current circumstances, however.

I used to work at a Seventh Day Adventist School, and their vegetarian 'meats' were always fine to me, as long as I didn't compare them to actual meat. As their own things, they were quite tasty, but nothing compared to what they were trying to imitate.

Fuck you. A one pound bag of twizzlers, opened and allowed to dry out just a bit, is way better than any individual wrapped piece. In fact I find the individual wrapped pieces gross. Too damp and squishy or something.

Then again a pound bag of Twizzlers and a bag of Tootsie-roll pops was the traditional long car drive snacks when I was a child, so I'm not exactly impartial.

never been a big fan of licorice in general, but those twizzler Nibs weren't too bad.

Lean Cuisines aren't exactly great for anything except a quick nuke meal, but the Tikki Masala variety was delicious. As fresh tasting as you could get with a TV dinner. Even my co workers would ask what I was microwaving because it smelled scrumptious to them. It was a limited edition flavor and I wish it came back.

I dunno, I like Dinty Moore beef stew and I always have. My wife and kids hate it, though.

Oh man, I remember these. Lean Cuisine could easily convince me to fork over some shekels if they brought that dish back. It was legitimately good eating, not just mediocre/acceptable like most microwave meals are.

I doubt it qualifies as "lean" but the frozen meals by Deep are pretty good. I like the Tikka Masala and the chicken and Saag. I have no idea how widespread this is in the US though. There's a lot of frozen Indian meals in my area, even in the common supermarkets now.

Nope, straight up steamed shrimp covered in white chocolat with some kind of black pepper dipping sauce boomers love it since it's apparently a local delicacy. I've try it, taste as expected.
