Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I will be legitimately amazed if Hancock comes out today and claims this is the peak of the epidemic, because the collective Chief Medical Officers are currently estimating that to be in the next three to seven weeks.

If he does say that, by god is he making himself a hostage to fortune. He will also make it massively more difficult to justify lockdown continuing up to another thirteen weeks.

But then he’s not the sharpest knife in the Cabinet’s drawer....

New York state reports 8,669 new cases of coronavirus and 197 new deaths in morning update, raising total to 92,381 cases and 2,373 dead
I wasn't aware of these numbers, holy shit.
New York state has more confirmed sick people, than the UK and France combined.

It's going to hit 100k before the end of the month, isnt it?

Here's another collection of videos that some of you might find interesting:

Eerie footage. This guy rode the London metro. The stations and wagons are deserted:

Remember that female nurse from NYC filming the chaos at her unit and their lack of supplies and equipment? She now has Covid-19

Interview with a doctor in Seattle:

I told you guys they are gonna bail out the airlines. Here you go:

Too many cities and countries around the world have come to depend on tourism generated by cheap charter flights for them to discontinue those. They are going to be bailed out, as happened a decade ago.

People are now breaking in and stealing alcohol from bars (to drink or to use for santitation is anyone's guess):

Good point from this WHO representative propagandist: "Given that there is no cure, why is testing so important?". Most people who are tested positive do not receive any special treatment. If they are mild they're just told to stay home and bunker up:

Native-Americans are fucked:

Aboriginals are fucked too:

There's even Covid-19 in the Amazon rainforest FFS:

more later...

There are a bunch of Jooz dying. It ain't just the blacks and Hispanics.

See some of the videos I posted above. Aboriginals are getting it, Native Americans, it's even in the Amazon rainforest now.

The fact that this means that we'd have no airlines, oil and gas companies, car companies and God knows what else doesn't seem to bother her.
Never let a good crisis go to waste I guess. The fact that the coronavirus crisis is a different crisis from the ones the Greens have been crying wolf about doesn't alter Lucas's prescribed cure which is to shut down any industry that idle hipsters in Brighton don't approve of.

She is following the Naomi Klein playbook. Look at this fucking video Klein did for The Intercept where she proceeded to plug Dem idiots like AOC and Ilhan Omar. I guess leftists are OK with shock doctrine tactics as long it's their side exploiting a crisis to get the things they want:

The reason for this is that Youtube fixes the results.

Tip for those of you looking for videos on Youtube: use both "Coronavirus" and "Covid-19" as separate search terms, you will get different search results for each term.

NEARLY 60 PERCENT OF U.S. WORKERS WON'T BE ABLE TO MEET THEIR BASIC FINANCIAL NEEDS UNDER ONE-MONTH CORONAVIRUS QUARANTINE, SURVEY SHOWS

6 out of 10 workers live hand to mouth with no savings whatsoever? I refuse to believe that. They have to have credit cards, or a stuffed sock full of cash that they hide under their bed. They have to have some money stashed somewhere. They understandably just don't want to use it up for the lockdown when they were secretly saving it up for something else.

I would believe that, or at least something near. Some years ago in non-pandemic/emergency circumstances, Dave Ramsey used a similar figure a lot. (Big fan of Dave Ramsey)

There was this figure thrown around for the UK a couple years back that over a third of Brits don’t have a month’s wages in savings: https://pressreleases.responsesource.com/news/96358/over-a-third-of-working-brits-have-less-than-a/

Your really underestimate the irresponsibility of the typical human. Not just american either, most places have a large class of people that have so much debt that a major economic disruption would obliterate their lives. 40% of Americans had less then $1000 to their name, and yes 3/5ths of the country lives paycheck to paycheck. As you said, they have credit cards, that are currently loaded with debt, and more debt is coming to buy food during the shutdown where there is 0 income. Many people, especially young, live in large cities with high cost of living, working service jobs with low income. The economy is utterly lopsided.

Many lower and middle class americans are loaded to debt up to the eyeballs, sub prime automotive lending reached an all time high recently, millions have tens if not hundreds of thousands in educational loans, mortgages, and long running medical debt. Most Americans are near broke. Its really hard to believe, but trust me, its true. If my time in the american education system has taught me anything, its that the vast majority of parents have the financial sense of a goldfish, and that passes onto their kids.

It's not just america either. England's personal and business debt rates have been shocking in the last few years, most of europe is going further into debt, China's economy is balancing on a knife's edge, the youth of japan work insane hours with little to show for it, low income plagues the youth of australia, ece. It's everywhere, as the middle class jobs left and were filled by fragile service jobs, the means for the average joe to save money have dried up, and most joes were terrible with money int he first place.

There is going to be a huge spike in collections and bankruptcy when this is all over.

For the record, this will NEVER occur.

Edit: I suspect this is overton manipulation, intended to fight the "GRANNY MUST DIE FOR MY 401K" types. No, he doesn't think we're gonna be in quarantine for the next 5 years. But if he says something similar to that, then "we need to stay in quarantine for another 6 months at least" sounds downright reasonable.

Yeah, this is where the German death rate will quickly approach 5% or even higher.
A friend of mine works in a pharmacy, they got a letter from the Medical Association (Ärztekammer), that they should stock up on morphine-based medication and stuff for palliative care.
The morphine, he said, is used to alleviate some breathing issues, so it's not meant to knock out people, so they can die painlessly. Still, the letter said that about 20% of those that get sick will need intensive care and hospitals are going to end up overrun most likely.

Shit is going to get bad from now on out.

Morphine causes decreased lung activity. It is a favorite in spain for doctors who plan on giving their patients euthanasia (with the family's signature and likely without their actual consent) so if they plan on stocking on that they already made their minds as to who lives and dies.

You can see he's still a bit weak now. Stumbling and stuttering more than usual.

So, no, not "we're at the peak, hooray!" instead a wartime style effort to construct labs and testing facilities to be able to deal with 100,000 people a day. Seems there's now 1500 or so of the 10,000 test capacity a day to go to suspected NHS workers.

They're not censoring those terms in searches? I thought I remembered hearing they were "sterilizing" search results to eliminate "misinformation" about the virus.

I guess it depends on which filters you use for Youtube. I use the one-hour filter and the 24-hour filter. I prefer the one-hour filter because that gives Youtube less time to censor. Another thing I have noticed is that they tend to censor all or most quarantine vlogs from the search results. If you want to see a "quarantine vlog" you have to use that as a specific search term, then you'll get nothing but vlogs in response to your query.

How the hell is New York getting hit so hard? I figured it’d be the west coast that would be getting decimated by this.

NYCers practically live on top of each other, California is big and spread out. Los Angeles has a population of 4 million living in a 503 square mile area. New York City is 8.5 million living in a 302 square mile area.
