What masks? Who has any masks?

The Czech Republic asked its citizens to make cloth masks to wear outside, and they accomplished that in ten days, and they have one of the lowest rates of Coronavirus in Europe. No one is saying that homemade masks or indeed any kind of barrier is 100 percent effective. The point is they might help slow things down a bit, which would flatten the curve. They can't get people to adhere to all the lockdown rules in Italy. They haven't been able to do it in New York City. It's not possible to provide billions of n95 masks to every American citizen, but this at least takes into consideration the fact that it's not possible to get people to stay six feet apart from each other at all times. Now, I know in America the second the government says to wear masks there will be think pieces complaining that women and men aren't dividing the mask making equally or that black transwomen aren't being provided with special rainbow masks, but I think asking people to wear some kind of face covering can't hurt and might help.

Can you not just get a can of Lysol and spray?

No. If you're wearing a mask with the outside filters getting liquid into it isn't the best idea. Too much water especially can turn it to goop that won't work anymore. You really need a place that you can take the mask off from the back, remove the filters and put them into a bag, then wash the central part of the mask. They're usually rubber-plastic and relatively easy to clean on their own.

Stick you filters out in the sun where they can't get wet or leave them in a bag for a while or get one of those UVC lights and illuminate the shit out of them to 'clean ' them.

Because when shit started to hit the fan, Gavin Newsom surprised every single person in the country by speed-dialing the White House and asking for their advice on how to handle the outbreak. He was one of the first governors to do that, and as a result of following their advice and the facilitation of federal help, the infection rate in California nearly flatlined. Newsom had the good sense to shut the fuck up and just do his job instead of playing politics, and it worked.

He pulled in every single state asset that he could find, he started recruiting retired civilian and military medical personnel, he took in anyone who was able to volunteer for non-medical duties so that the medical staff could get freed up, and he went nuts on finding locations for military 'field hospitals.'

New York, on the other hand, just danced around like brain-dead idiots and kept encouraging people to go out and party in Chinatown (And I mean that they literally did that) and took every opportunity to ignore every piece of advice that the Federal government was offering them until their infection rate just exploded.

For once, California actually didn't fuck something up. I was shocked because I would have bet my last dollar that California was going to be the Ground Zero for this outbreak in the U.S., but something managed to scare the shit out of Newsom and he got to work.

It's also worth noting that the San Francisco Bay Area was the first place in the country to issue a shelter-in-place order. There's an interesting article about the health official (for Santa Clara County, the county just south of San Francisco and one of seven counties to jointly issue the order) who is credited with spearheading the crucial decision.

The Bay Area is actually doing better than other parts of the state due to the aforementioned SIP. They locked down earlier than the rest of the state and started doing less-restrictive social distancing in earlier weeks as well. San Francisco has seven deaths.

I don't see it this way. I think China is doing this to convince its own citizens more than anyone else. The Chinese communists can survive the world's condemnations, especially if they defeat America, but they live and die by controlling their own population. When they attack an American naval ship in the South China Sea, they won't need to worry about the support of their own nation because they will have convinced the people that America started the war and a peaceful and beneficent China was reluctantly, and only as a last resort, defending itself.

China is facing a demographic time bomb and has ten years to rewrite the facts on the ground. It is facing a quandary of epic proportions. It won't be long before it has the oldest population on the planet. Those people will be old before they are rich.

China's business model is existentially flawed. It has extraordinary debt that is multiples of its GDP, having grown exponentially through government funding of empty cities, military buildup, high-speed rail to nowhere, a Belt and Road initiative that's becoming obvious to partner countries as a means of colonialist extortion, and various other nonproductive government lending to CCP members. Its vaunted reserves will soon disappear.

China is also a nation, thanks to the "one child" initiative, that has hundreds of millions of young men with no prospect of marriage. Hundreds of millions of "incel" men make for either an angry and expendable fighting force or a bane upon society.

China is on the clock. Today, it is formidable, with a sophisticated and capable military. The Chinese may be able to win a confrontation, even a war, with the United States. Under Obama's policy of surrender, China had a chance of overtaking us economically while growing its military until its primacy was a fait accompli. But Trump killed that dream with his trade war, exposing the inherent weaknesses of the Chinese economy. And should the aftermath of the pandemic play out without interference, China's position in the world will be irreparably damaged.

What does China have to lose?

Time is not on China's side. Unless the Chinese destroy us on the field of battle soon, the clock will run out, and the dream of the coming "Chinese century" will be just that: a dream.

Everything they are doing points to them preparing to do so.

For China, there will never be a better time to start a war with America.

It's more that NYC is one of the most concentrated centers of old people in the US. Especially the areas that are getting most hit. Queens Brooklyn and the Bronx. You've got some redneck like McNabb who makes non PC comments on a Neo Nazi podcast but as far as I can see was good at his job regardless of the race of the people he treated but none of that mattered when the journos decided to destroy him. And you've got Zapolsky who is probably very PC in public but absolutely shafted that black guy who he clearly regards as a complete monkey.

Well yes. But it is also the center of where the "Greatest Generation" and the "Silent Generation" built the suburbs immediately after WW2. Many of them remain there till today. A lot of the communities are very very old. Moreso than in most other American Cities.
