Good news! Data is promising and seems the curve is coming down. Spain might be recovering quite nicely but of course the way down is always slower than the way up in flattened curves. We're still stocking shit so the PPE situation is still worrying. But production keeps being ramped up so it seems like we'll stop depending on buying shit soon enough, and once we're back to work might be ready to start exporting a lot of ventilators and PPE. The test situation is still completelt fucked but steadly getting unfucked.

Sadly as the situation gets better the politics get worse as the right realizes it NEEDS to shit on the left before it's too late. They've gone full fascist with the rhetoric and seem desperate for even the slightest point, which makes them even more insuferable than usually. If this doesn't stop soon the pollarization might do some real damage, so far the left hasn't responded in kind and has done all it can to ensure cooperation, but much like the little kids they are the right wing's just taking the chance to poke some more and see what it takes to wake the bear. We'll see how far they go but had the president been like Rajoi many would now be in prison over "terrorist threat" and other such bollocks. The part that really disapoints me is Vox going back to being the PP's dog. They were almost good. We almost got a right that isn't neocon bullshit. But that's a pipedream now. As for the hospital. We still lack tests and PPE. And our ventilator situation is still... well at least now we got a few monkey builds and can hook up multiple beds, but you know, it's worrying. But overall it's fine. Morale could be better but it could be a lot worse. The long shifts and stress is a bit straining, but nothing too worrying so far.

And now they're being told they're gonna be paid even less than they normally would be.

Needless to say the unions are already telling everyone they'll handle it and escalating the fuck out of it. Last thing we need now is for morale to collapse. I swear the right's just gone full kamikaze.

Of more than 800 cases now reported, the wide majority — and all the 25 deaths — have been in China, according to Chinese officials.

“Make no mistake,” he added. “This is an emergency in China, but it has not yet become a global health emergency. It may yet become one.”

The committee weighing the decision was divided, its chairman, Dr. Didier Houssin, said during the briefing. Some members felt the course of the outbreak warranted an emergency declaration now, but others said it that was too soon to decide, citing the limited number of cases in countries outside China as well as the country’s efforts to contain the virus.

Emergency declarations can appear to single out one country as a threat to the rest of the world. Dr. Houssin said the committee also considered the potential impact of its decision on people in China.

So there were 800 cases in multiple countries. That must imply human to human transmission unless they all caught it from the same bat. And the WHO admitted they were divided on whether to declare an emergency but did not do so because it would appear to single out one country.

Even as late as February 3rd, when there were 17,238 confirmed infections in China including 361 deaths, as well as 151 confirmed cases in 23 countries the WHO were advising against travel bans and China's WHO delegate used this to attack countries that had issued travel bans 'seriously against the recommendation by the WHO', which meant the US.

The next week my town will begin to provide facemasks to all the citizens, just in time to replace my last mask. At least there's something that works. Here in Italy schools won't open until September, all the students will pass to the next year and the ones who hadn't good scores will have the chance to take exams in September to improve their grades. There are still online classes, tho.

One thing I noticed is that this quarantine is really beginning to wear people down. If the problem will not be solved, or at least lessened, by June, people will start to freak out. I've spoken to a few of my colleagues, and a couple of them are showing symptoms of depression. One of my relatives is stressed out because he still works and two days ago he was brought to the police station because the officers didn't believe him when he told them he was out because he had to work. The only positive thing is that my region hasn't a widespread contagion, at least not yet, because of the measures that had been taken before we had any case of infection. Truth is, we are all very, very tired.

Maybe that is the real intention. The hotel owners are likely friends with the local politicians. Get paid 2x the value for buildings that where already losing money before this.
