The free healthcare/fuck pharma crowd, have been spreading the idea for years that treatments are pushed because $$$, and that pharmaceutical companies will never research for a cure to a disease as a result. Many have fallen for that line of thinking over the years, and associate new treatments as money seeking schemes.

I totally forgot how people say this about treatments for HIV and cancer, it didn't occur to me they'd apply the same argument to an acute illness. I've always found it insane that anyone who is old enough to remember when AIDS was a death sentence could say anything disparaging about there being treatments for it now. AIDS is a horrible way to die, and the fact that people can manage their HIV now and have a good quality of life is amazing.

A treatment for COVID 19 would be a one off though, not something you take for the rest of your life, so the "they just want to make money off you taking it long term" argument doesn't even apply. Vaccines take time, but if we found a drug that works that's already approved for use in humans we can use that much sooner to save lives.

Politics invading science like that is truly horrifying to me, what a world! I bet these same people disparage religious people for being anti-science all the time too, not realizing they're in a death cult themselves.

What it means is that everything they do is overseen by a senior doctor and they get hazed into strict compliance with ze rules. In the UK they just get dumped into an overstressed system and learn by their mistakes. British doctors joke darkly about 'the dying time' and 'the killing season' when all the newbies start work and regularly fuck up.

Mind you if you look at the figures here Germany isn't do all that well and the UK isn't doing all that badly

As of this morning New York State confirmed coronavirus cases: 122,031 total, increased by 8,327,; deaths 4,159, increased by 1,214 and recovered cases 10,478 increased by 1,592.

If anyone's paying attention, a bunch of stuff happened regarding the detection and reporting of epidemic spread in Poland. There were some wild daily number fluctuations in recent days:

This was accompanied by a large surge of daily testing capabilities (from 4000-4500 up to almost 8000 as of the most recent count) and a change of reporting times (so far these have been rather inconsistent, now we'll be getting a morning and evening summary). Basically, the sudden jump in testing numbers suggests that laboratories became unclogged, so to speak (thanks to purchasing a large new batch of tests and a major private laboratory joining the fray) and a whole bunch of overdue samples was tested. And the infection numbers for yesterday and today are strongly skewed. Before today we used to get a third, nightly report which included results from the Mazovian voivodeship, which holds the largest infection clusters and always inflates the numbers. But that didn't happen yesterday, so the Mazovian numbers for the entire day were only reported this morning. Combine this with statistics spiking because of all the widespread hospital and nursing house infections and there's a bit of chaos to deal with.

For record keeping's sake, we currently have 4102 confirmed cases. This includes 94 deaths. And there's finally an official recovery count: 134 people can consider themselves uncoofed.

I debated posting this but I’m FUCKING RAGING.

Scotland‘s Chief Medical Office has been formally warned by police after breaking the fucking lockdown to go up to her holiday home for the weekend. Context: today is the first actually nice sunny day most of Scotland has seen since about last September.

The fucking CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER broke the lockdown to do the exact thing she has been on TV threatening us all not to do for weeks.

Why so pissed? Because my holiday home is in the same fucking place as hers. Weeks ago now, I discussed with family/friends whether I should pick up the tots and the puppy and decamp to the seaside for the summer early. We spend their summers running wild on the beach, eating chips and generally enjoying life. The advice of all persons who were NHS connected was that the CMO HER PERSONAL SELF was shitting it and wouldn’t send her family away to the second home. The village is tiny and the ability of the NHS there to support the summer tourists is limited.

I followed this advice because this is what sensible people do, right? Follow the expert advice?

Imagine my stress sighs when I see the photos of her and her family on the beach this weekend whilst I am in fucking lockdown with three bairns and a big dug bouncing off the fucking walls, and no prospect of any beach summer for us this year.

Well, the response of the Scottish people to the CMO herself deciding “fuck the lockdown” has been predictable. All my my kith and kin are reporting that the lockdown is being fully disobeyed everywhere. The parks are absolutely jumping, the supermarkets are sold out of suncream, and the kids are out playing together in the streets same as ever.

This is what happens when you don’t follow your own fucking advice.

Unfortunately, it's all too easy to fall into a trap where you think you know the truth, cherry-pick data that supports it and ignore data that does not.

Killing season is also a bit of an NHS meme/joke.

It's not so much about junior doctors fucking up and killing people due to their naivety and incompetence but the junior doctors exposure to actual death despite their best efforts and excellent training before reality and life goes "lol nahhhh" and a patient keels over dead despite them trying to do the right thing.

Also, Juniors typically answer to a consultant who plays the role of mentor and they regularly check in with.

The NHS also did incredibly well with MRSA rates by basically asking patients to use hand san stations and for all NHS personnel to wash their hands even more regularly than they did before. Throw in the new deep cleaning regime with fancy machines which disinfect whole rooms and regular deep cleans in the most "at risk" areas and most superbugs cease to be as much of an issue as they once were.

The result was the UK does better than the krauts or Americans with MRSA related deaths.

The UK doing "not too badly" with Kung-Flu may be down almost totally due to the fact our testing capabilities is about 10,000 a day when we could do with it being 10x that. Germany has the greater testing capacity and capability but might be working on a lot of their published cases being more mild. You can assume, as these are typically checked in patients now being counted in the UK our counted are more "severe."
