I guess on the upside if you're PM you're getting the high-quality medical care, not the average sort and that's good because the average sort in the UK means you're odds of survival are not very good.

That's also assuming you don't have any shitheels on your care team who let their politics interfere with doing their jobs. We've seen plenty of admissions from healthcare workers in the US since Trump took office that they're "less gentle" with people they think are Trump supporters. Phlebotomists boasting they "stuck them a few extra times" and things like that.

All it takes is for one (or some) of his caretakers to hate him and you can kiss that high-quality medical care out the window. Accidentally write the wrong dose on a prescription (or dispense the wrong dose), change a machine setting inappropriately, ignore the call button for a few minutes, etc.

It's a little scary to think about it, but you're really at the mercy of a lot of strangers in the hospital, and it only takes one to do some real harm. Being a polarizing figure must add to the risk considerably.

Do you have a source for this? Plenty of news sources reporting he's in hospital, none reporting he's on a ventilator. The line is that it's an abundance of caution case, procedural due to his symptoms not having cleared up 10 days after testing positive.

IIRC, the rumor that BoJo is on a ventilator came from Russian sources.

Thanks, that really shouldn't have been a surprise. Not impossible of course but it certainly fits the Russian MO to seed fear through rumours. The truth of the rumours is basically immaterial. Personally, I'll be taking it with a pound of salt and we'll see what happens

-Here we use face masks and goggles but due to PPE shortages I have seen nurses handle corona cases on that same getup. Fuck, I've handled a corona patient IN MY FUCKING STREET CLOTHES WITHOUT EVEN A MASK yesterday because of a bureaucratic fuckup. Then again maybe I would've thought more about it if I hadn't passed what seems like corona before. But point is, when a bureaucratic fuckup happens and you're stuck there with something that needs fixing NOW you don't care about PPE that much. Even if in my case I was just there to fill god damned paperwork. Which btw I had to redo due to protocol (not gonna pass on possibly infected papers to directive. Even if I'm starting to think they deserve it.) But yeah. Emergency hits, you need to send someone to ICU asap, you go get a showet and pray afterwards, welcome to healthcare, optimism and sheer unbridled resignation go a long way in keeping this together.

Even N95s are totally inadequate for a virus like this. Ideally, everyone treating these patients would have, at the bare minimum, a full-face PAPR hood, but the necessary PPE does not exist in the quantities required. As you know, our healthcare workers—like you, I assume—are getting sick in droves with this thing. Hundreds of doctors and nurses worldwide are coming down with COVID-19, and some of them are dying of it.

There are people right now who are trying to claim that the virus isn’t real and this whole thing is one big coverup. I think that’s absolutely insane.

There have been multiple independent confirmations of SARS-CoV-2’s gene sequence, and over a hundred countries have people getting sick with this thing and blatantly showing symptoms, and yet, there are those who dare call it a hoax, while people are dying.

I will continue to advocate for healthcare workers receiving better PPE to fight this terrible disease. I am sick and tired of this. It’s like nobody cares about our doctors and nurses. It makes me sick!

Basically my question is, will writing off certain deaths as Coronachan cause a depression in other causes of death?

Zoom’s pretty chill with system requirements as long as you’re not trying to do the virtual backgrounds and they just updated the app for everyone in the past few days to require passwords for every meeting, so you shouldn’t run into any speds bombing the calls with their peens out and whatever else they think is funny. Biggest issue as of late has been the massive increase in traffic making it take a minute or two to sign into meetings sometimes.

Test results will be getting in tuesday, I didn't notice any coworkers who seemed sick, so I'm hoping he gets a clean bill of health.
