I came across a really interesting YouTube video on the "real life superhero" Phoenix Jones, who is pretty lulzy:

If you're unaware, real life superheroes are people who dress up in superhero costumes in order to perform community service such as neighborhood watch, or in some cases vigilantism. Phoenix Jones is the latter. He made a name for himself as a vigilante in Seattle who would try to stop crime and help the police apprehend criminals. He actually created a crime-stopping group of costumed heroes and acted as their leader.

If the video is too long for you, I recommend reading Phoenix Jones's Wikipedia page for more info. Basically the highlights are

  • Phoenix gets arrested for pepper-spraying a group of drunk people
  • Phoenix gets called out by other superheroes in his group for being an asshole who's hard to work with (after making the superhero club super cliquey)
  • And best of all, in 2020 Phoenix gets arrested for selling ecstasy to an undercover cop. He's currently still in prison.

It's a long video but super interesting and engrossing, not to mention funny because of the subject matter.

Anyone who wears spandex that isn't an athlete is a lolcow tbh. If Batman were real, he'd have a Kiwifarms thread.

I've had the video in my feed for awhile and I hadn't clicked on it because I thought it was another comic video about some obscure character, but I'll definitely check it out later now that I know what it is.

Kinda have mixed feelings about this. It seems lolcowish, but also kinda commendable in some instances.

Edit: Jones himself seems like a cow though.

There are definitely some commendable IRL superheroes, imo. There are people who dress up as heroes to do community service like passing out food to homeless people or delivering groceries to homebound people, which I think is actually pretty sweet. But Jones himself repeatedly looks down at those people and calls them "LARPers" (as if you're not LARPing, dude?) and "fake heroes."

It's a cute gimmick if done right, but Jones takes it too far.

Lol it says at one point he got caught with his own net gun. I'm disappointed that the cop who took the pictures of it didn't post it online.

I'm kind of mixed on this one. On one hand, this actually could make for a pretty fun thread in Community Watch, though we only have Phoenix Jones to go off of atm. And on the other, even with it being about just Phoenix Jones, dude's currently in prison.

That being said, it does make me wonder: Does the guy have a sizable online footprint worth documenting here? If so, there could be some decent potential in that.

Call me a fag but, from what I saw on the video Jones was probably genuine at first. He was just an autistic spazz who wanted to be a superhero to make life easier as seattle is a shithole. He got popular and his ego consumed him. Then he LARPed hard, making his own "justice league".
When it became too real, he crashed and burned every bridge. Deluded that he was always right, he became jaded when reality proved him wrong. He probably used drugs to cope with the death of Nicole as he probably felt powerless to stop it. He probably started selling so that he could feel in control again. He probably became so jaded as he became the thing he hated, as well as dealing with those stuck with drug addiction.

I don't think it would be a good Community Watch thread because some of the guys aren't cows which would create a lot of back and forth fighting. Jones is certainly a cow though, and I'd be willing to wager that some more shit would come out on him even though he is in prison since it sounds like he's fucked over basically everyone he's come into contact with.

"He who fights monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster", as the saying goes...

got this video recommended and i thought it was some nish comic book super hero but instead its a real life one? i have known of them for some time but for the most part they just LARPERS that really dont fight crimes but do charity work. Jones should have focus fighting more with his fists instead with pepparspray since you can easily hit other people with it.

alot of these guys come from broken homes or were abused as children. i do feel for the injustices they sufferd but dressing up in spandex and fight drug dealers and drunks is not the way to deal with the bad memories.

I watched a documentary on guys like this when I was a kid, not the same group though, one guy looked like a poor mans jack black in spandex and had a cast iron tube he put around his hand and he called it the "iron fist".

Funny you should mention that becuase the dude I saw said his dad beat him and was a leader of a local kkk chapter, it would be intresting if these sorts of folks just lived a massive cope in order to come to terms with thier unfortunate pasts.

Well, Batman is definitely well-built in any sense of the word. If there was a real-life Batman that was beating up criminals to the point there were rumors that he wasn't human it'd be kind of cool, but the minute a photo surfaces there'd be a team of autists on the Internet looking for his identity, and once it was inevitably revealed it was some wealthy CEO, man, it'd be all over.

He is a whack job all the way.All the real life super heroes are messed up but Phoenix Jones takes the cake and the fact he wasn't gunned down by a gang for fun is mindbogglingly.

That's the other thing about superheroes, they usually have some power that gives them some natural defense or easy access. Spider-Man can swing on ropes and ejaculate sticky stuff, Superman can fly and is basically invincible, the X-Men have all some nifty powers, etc., and even Batman has all those wonderful toys that only someone with deep pockets can afford.

LOL, turns out that Phoenix Jones was a different kind of superhero:

A local 'superhero' known in the past for serving justice and helping the police combat crime in downtown Seattle is now in super trouble with the law.

Benjamin John Fodor, known by his superhero name "Phoenix Jones," faces multiple drug charges after he allegedly sold Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, also known as Molly, to another person, according to a King County District Clerk filing.

Got busted for selling MDMA, a.k.a. Ecstasy. Even though he doesn't have the power of flight, Phoenix Jones can take you flying higher than a kite.

My personal favorite is Angle Grinder Man.

He goes around with a gas-powered Partner K650 pavement saw (actually not an angle grinder at all, and far more fucking hardcore) fitted with a cutting wheel and he cuts the boots right off of cars that have been clamped for parking violations.

Now that's the kinda hero we need.
