Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Peter Sallis continued doing Wallace until he was 89. Frank Welker is still doing Scooby at 74. Casey Kasem kept doing Shaggy until he was 75. Unless something specifically happens to your voice it's not an issue. Unless you're easily replaced interchangeable trash like Monica Rial and Jamie Marchi who can just be replaced with some other trashy slut without all the baggage (drama baggage not their huge asses).
There used to be a meme regarding Monica Rial, in that she was always prone to show up in an English dub of a series. And yet nowadays, she barely gets work.
June Foray was well into her late-90s and was still doing a little voice-work here and there. She didn't have to, but she wanted to because she enjoyed doing voice-work. She's the queen of voice-acting for a reason.
I actually don't think I've heard of any of her works though.

So Vic moved to TX for not much reason, anyway. Double kick in the balls.

As I explained elsewhere, I think the merger is punishment for the Audio leaks. Nothing that KickVic has done makes sense unless it was going to be long term.

Who would risk a lawsuit costing hundreds of thousands of dollars just to avoid working with a guy for 9 months?

(Yes, a particularly spiteful group of people might do that but Monica made at best 30k a year. Ron made decent money but that could all disappear in an economic downturn. This is a significant gamble they took here.)

And I don't know a lot about the anime industry but it seems like Aniplex was the red headed step child to the Chad Funimation. And there weren't any rumors circulating of a merger? Funimation has Dragonball so by all accounts anyone looking in would think they were the most talented group to run a new venture.

Now Aniplex is in charge while Funimation gets mashed together with another two companies.

I don't think the merger was planned. At least not the way things actually happened.

Only if you've never seen a cartoon in your life.

I would question if Vic is even aware that Fantasy Soft Entertainment has been raising money by promising that Vic will be creating content if they reach certain goals. To me, it looks like Vic voiced a couple lines for them in 2014 and they're still attaching his name to their projects. The $800,000 Indiegogo that was created two weeks after the GoFundMe seems opportunistic.

On May 6th, 2019, Fantasy Soft made this tweet, which was reported on by Bounding into Comics.

The video Fantasy Soft tweeted, where Vic was supposedly teasing this new spin-off series, was lifted directly from lines he recorded for their 2014 trailer.

Jinnie McManus said that she became aware of Kenneth Bright Jr., the CEO of Fantasy Soft Entertainment in the late 2000s when she had Chuck Huber as a client. Kenneth apparently tried to tag along with Chuck at a convention and thought that Chuck wouldn't mind sharing a room with him.

Wait, I'm confused.

So Funimation is being moved to California? And is being merged into Aniplex? Is this a confirmed thing?

I mean I know Sony owned Aniplex already when they bought Funimation, and I know there was a lot of Funimation job postings for California that the TX clique wasn't paying attention to. (A few in NYC, too.)

What's this about Funimation being merged into two other companies? Which two?

It's likely due to this mess that it's being done in a more hush hush manner while everyone is focused on the lawsuit.

Lets also remember that the VAs in Cali are union, so what they did to Vic would NEVER fly, and the second they move out of TX, Sabat loses his blackmail over Funimation via his recording studio.
To expand on your point, Sabat's power base is based in Texas.

He has control over casting decisions so he has power over VA's.
He has control over the VA's so he can withhold them from conventions.
He can also pull Funimations backing from Conventions.
And Gen Fukunaga will back him up even if someone complains.

California? Fukunaga is going to have a boss. A boss who has probably been in the Anime business for a while. Know what kind of shit show Fukunaga runs.

Sabat wants to manipulate the conventions? Call Aniplex's guy. Hell, why would they talk to Sabat at all? You'll walk into an anime convention and see "Aniplex" plastered everywhere. Funimation will have a rack in Aniplex's booth.

Sabat wants to withhold roles and play favorites? Bam. Union complaint. Casting couch? Union complaint. He wants good contracts from Funimation for his own studio? Whoops, he doesn't run a union shop. Guess that's going to have to change.

Sabat has made a lot of enemies over the years. Hell, his allies will probably turn on him once the roles dry up.

And the knives will come out.

And I'll take those fucking optimistics now.
While this the Don Sabat speculation that’s been going on for months, has Chris ever shown off Okatron 5000? I just ask because I just wanna know if it’s actually that much better than what Funimation has.

Would he even be allowed within 1000 feet of the place?

Blog post.

Sony TV and Aniplex will own the venture while Funimations General Manager will run it. Funimation is being combined with Madman Anime Group and Wakanim.

CULVER CITY, CA – September 24, 2019

This was known a while ago, is there any new information? Like, did the terms change due to all this shit going down? Or is it still speculation? And if it is, what is it based on?

@Nontransferable Thanks for the inspiration.

It's unfortunate that this person got a pass for so long simply because they were "supporting Vic". Emosh asked some very simple questions about Vic's involvement in their supposed series. They mostly made excuses and then abruptly announced that Fantasy Soft Entertainment may be closing soon because they don't want to be accused of having lied about everything.

Emment Plant summarized the situation.

Guess Emosh was right. FSE was just a band of grifters. Starting to unironically miss Perfection; at least he was just Spirit Jr. but not obese and was entirely right about MBA and Geekdom.

You could go to Perfection's channel and see what he's up to (hopefully post in his thread, too).
Last time I saw, he was making vids on MBA.

I hate to be that guy, but even fucking Emmet was right for once.

But the most hilarious part in all of this is that Emosh just had to drop one bomb and FSE ran like bitches.

Well, that's disappointing. But, y'know, it'd be neat to see the trumploans used in an independent studio to actually hire on Vic. He turned down approaches a year ago because he was too depressed, but his mental state seems much better now. I still think a serious company, even if it's independent, hiring him would be much more effective help to him than just tweeting out hashtags. Just as it was a huge opportunity for cons who couldn't otherwise book him, it's a huge opportunity for smaller studios to get his voice attached to their projects and sell them when they otherwise couldn't get it. You know. Provided they actually do that.
