Brexit rage just never dies.

Worldwide the rate of infection is going down. It used to be 90k a day, now its 80k and im sure in 2 weeks we will be back in the 4 digits. And in 4 weeks you'll have countries opening back up for business. From what i heard from my relatives in the upper parts of the CA government, theyre looking at ending quarantine by the end of the month. All this stay at home business apparently did much better than they thought.

I will admit we probably got tricked by data scientists. Like in the UK where casualties went from millions to hundreds.

Um, I don't know exactly where you are getting your data from, but you seem to be in contradiction with the projections of multinational consulting firms that work with infrastructure and environmental compliance. They are projecting a 25% workload decrease. Over the next couple of months, at least.

You are also contradicting multiple reports of school systems being closed until the fall semester opens.

They might open up more rural counties, but they need to find ways of preventing people from leaving their county to visit contaminated areas, or bringing in people from contaminated areas.

This is not going to go away in a month. Sorry.

Are your sources using the totally wrong IHME models?

You can keep up to date on the state government's official racial stats here, but remember that 87% of our deaths are still in the tri-county area (25% Black), half of those are in Wayne County (38%), and half of those are in the city limits (77%), so the disparity may or may not be as big as those stats would imply. We don't know for sure, because Wayne County and Detroit City aren't reporting racial stats.

Yeah, they weren't always putting up race stats, though. A longer more nuanced version of my take is that if you also see how Wayne and Detroit in particular are outpacing the rest of the tri-county in terms of cases/overall population (Wayne including Detroit is something like 3x the rate of Oakland in my reckoning - with Macomb in on the lower side of in between) it's clearly a factor, even taking relative density into account. Black communities are getting hit hard by it - even if comparing the statewide statistics is a bit misleading.

For those of you following your local cases, how good have governments been about disclosing actual relevant information that could help you make decisions?
Case in point, a senior home in my county apparently just reported a number of cases, but we aren't being told which one. Out of "privacy" concerns we don't know if the other cases that came in over the weekend were the result of community spread or travel, as apparently the first confirmed cases were.
Maybe this is just me but if I caught this I'd be telling everyone who would listen where I've been and who I talked to over the last two weeks. I don't need your name, address, or SSN but for fucks sake tell me if you went to the same Walmart I did.

Tl;dr Trump keeps firing people from independent watchdog groups who keep an eye on the federal government because he felt they’re being too critical of him. Currently there is no one overseeing the $2 trillion coronavirus relief package to make sure businesses are using taxpayer money responsibly.

Trump has bristled at the oversight of the coronavirus law, suggesting in a statement last month that some of the mandates from Congress were unconstitutional.

“I'll be the oversight," Trump declared as lawmakers were finalizing the rescue plan.

I don’t like this at all. This seems like a clear violation of checks and balances.

I know an overwhelming percentage of users are here are pro-Trump but I hope you agree with me that this is concerning. I don’t want the government handing trillions of taxpayer dollars to companies while there’s no oversight on how it’s being spent. I want the person overseeing it to be impartial and an outsider who doesn’t have connections to the current administration or any businesses included in the relief package. What is the point of a watchdog who can be removed by the very person they’re supposed to be watching?

Are your sources using the totally wrong IHME models?

I do not know what models "my sources" are using. I am going to assume that they are using multiple models, and datasources, and comparing them, as that is a key part of making any projection. Multinational consultancies stand to lose a lot, if they do a hackneyed job of it.

I am not saying that we will be ducking and covering for the next 50 years ... all I am saying, is that they aren't going to open up the floodgates the moment it appears that cases are down. And certainly not in a month if you live in an urban area.

Some state politicians from rural areas might be pushing for it, but as for large cities, it ain't gonna happen in a month.

Another Dr. Campbell video, this time on masks and how the virus spreads.

Summary

When you breathe out you can transmit droplets 2m, coughing is 5-6m, sneezing is 7-8m. The virus spreads in the air further than previously thought. Surfaces contaminated. He points out the old aerosol vs droplet distinction is obsolete. Droplets can spread in airconditioning systems.

Details

Based on a study Turbulent gas clouds and respiratory pathogen emissions. This claims you get turbulent clouds of pathogens that spread the virus efficiently in confined spaces. Sneezing emits particles and gas at 10-30m/s. Masks stop infected people from emitting plumes of deadly viruses and thus infecting people. Masks can protect you from infection but only if they are tight-fitting. CDC recommends mouth coverings to stop infected people infecting others. Wearing masks is good but to stop infected people infecting others. The evidence seems to imply that the virus can spread in microdroplets potentially over long distances. It doesn't make sense to try to classify spread as a droplet or an aerosol as there is no clear cutoff between the two. He says the WHO was wrong to recommend the West let in flights from China. We have been working on the wrong assumptions. 2m distance is not far enough. Turbulent clouds efficiently mix pathogens into air. The virus can survive in droplets for a long time. Droplets can survive for minutes in clouds, not seconds as previously thought. Each droplet can carry thousands or millions of viral particles and can contaminate mucus membranes in the uninfected and infect them. Talks about the importance of good ventilation. Points out even after water evaporates mucus and saliva can keep viral particles moist and potent. The virus can survive in the air for hours. Thinks 3 hours of survival time, as mentioned in China, is plausible. We can dilute them by ventilating sick rooms. Talks of how hospitals used to have massive windows which you could open to change the air. Modern hospitals depend on airconditioning. Suggests opening windows to try to dilute viral concentrations. A sick patient will contaminate the whole room, keep door closed to avoid contaminating the whole house. Points out the virus has been found in the ventilation system of buildings. Points out the WHO have been saying 1m is safe, CDC said 6ft (~2m). Neither are safe. Governments have underestimated airborne transmission but this was suspected for some time from early Chinese infection characteristics. This reminds me of the bit in Outbreak. where they work out that the virus is airborne. He suggests keeping windows open to fresh, uncontaminated air in outside world. Not entirely convinced the air outside my windows is uncontaminated.

Ok, so if this is accurate, and we're all basically fucked no matter what we do, then ...

Let's just re-open the economy. What's the point of keeping it shut down at this point if there's really nothing that can be done to prevent catching it?

Between this and the US, I'm half convinced something else is going on, like some sort of side effect from social engineering that is causing the combined "NOT MY PRESIDENT" and "BREZXIIIIT NOOOOOO~~!!!!" thing.

My theory is something to do with social media. We know they're intentionally cutting people off from dissenting opinions. What if these freakouts are one of the symptoms?

I'm not particularly concerned at all because I'm not in the position of believing the media, especially not within the first 24 hours of some headline-hunting "Trump is evil" sort of story. I'm just going to kick my feet up, keep an eye on the story and see how it develops because going into an arm-flailing rage about this stuff always seems to completely break down when it's examined for any length of time. It doesn't pay to be a reactionary in this day and age, especially not when the media's trying to make you panic.

If it's a completely honest story and he's firing the person who's looking at the checkbook purely because he got buttmad about something, yeah I'd find it concerning. I don't for a second believe that they're telling the truth, though. Always seems like this stuff pans out to be a lie or they're omitting some incredibly crucial information.

If you filed income taxes in the last 2 years and have a live bank account for direct deposit should be deposited by the end of next week or something like that.

Anyway. If the acting Navy Secretary had hoped to tamp down the Roosevelt controversy, he just failed spectacularly.

Well, first of all I'm Catholic, so if your comments are targeted at me that criticism doesn't stick. It's just that when people in my group fuck up I call them out.

Anyway, this pastor and every other "Christian" who are endangering people absolutely deserve to be called out. There are a lot of times Christians don't deserve a bad rap, this is not one of them. Numerous megachurches have endangered their congregations by defying social distancing and telling people faith will protect them, if they're not outright denying the seriousness of the current situation. Just because Muslims do stupid shit too doesn't mean Christians don't deserve to be criticized when they also do stupid shit.

Hemoglobin study if anyone would like to check it out, there could be some validity to this finding. Especially if we find out that the oxygen deprvation isn't being caused by the pneumonia, rather the pneumonia is just another side effect from what is going on actually with in the blood. Some AI tools that have been developed AI Tool that predicts COVID complications Doomer Boomer Jim shared the smoking link of a lower hospital admission of smokers in China in the early Wuhan studies. So there could be some credibility to the blood disease angle after all, that if anything ARDS is only the last effect that is had once full respiratory failure has been set in. Again, I am not a doctor only a control systems technologist student. These are just some interesting findings of the day, stay safe Kiwis!

So, Australia's recorded 7 deaths today, bringing our total to 48. We've been average 2-3 a day for a fair while, so this is a decent jump.

Thankfully, though, our increase in cases per day seems to be dropping, with a decline since the 28th of March, which had 460 cases, as compared to yesterday with 106 cases.

This is despite the best efforts of the plague ship Ruby Princess.

Sort of like how for weeks people have been saying South Korea and Singapore are doing things perfectly with testing and distancing.
Yeah but they're going to have to keep the borders closed until the rest of the world figures their shit out otherwise it's gonna be a rinse repeat.
The supposed smartest country on this is only as strong as the world's most unprepared country if free travel is allowed.

The fact they cut out everyone but the "pure" is why they wind up raging every time an election doesn't go their way. They have zero interest in what "the plebs" think and only care about themselves.

You've sadly seen that today with the shit heel fat bitch (former) Mayor of Heanor Shiela Oakes in Derbyshire (Yet-a-fucking-gain this shitty little county gets mentioned in Coronachan land) who said BoJo "Deserves it for being the worst PM ever" rather than having a fucking milisecond's decorum for the leader of the nation who's got a kid on the way.

It's a good job these tossers keep their opinions to themselves or on social media out the fucking way because I think it's reaching the point people would fucking lamp them.

EDIT: In fact here's another good example of these dimwit fucks. Lefty Twitter began smugly spreading about that there were thousands of jobs going, around 5,000 in all, for veg picking. So the Brexiteers should "Chop chop" and go apply and not be lazy. The responce from the Great British Public yet again? 26,000 signed up to help.

As we already learned, a deputy IG from the DOD was replaced with a full IG from the EPA.

I don’t like this at all. This seems like a clear violation of checks and balances.
Checks and balances are between branches of government, all the agencies involved are under the Executive branch.

Your source of information is bad.

Edit: Also, one guy on a board isn't doing everything, it's one guy.

I don't think dismissing this as 'it's just the flu', is helpful to anyone, in any way!

If anyone still dismisses this as "just the flu", show them these videos to scare them straight:
