Confident enough to steal, but too arrogant to realize getting caught would've cost more. As other's mentioned, Jess doesn't care about the supplies themselves as much as it's for that rush. Many shoplifting kids don't even do anything with the stuff they get a majority of the time. They just keep stealing more and more because once they're confident in getting away with it, it becomes easier to attempt it again.

It was never about "defeating capitalism uwu". Jess like many other of these hypocrites don't care about others. They want to be seen as the exception to the rules and don't care about stepping on some poor retail worker to do that. Already you have people trying to change the narrative to suite Jess' bs. Just like how a shoplifting teen tries to claim that they "didn't mean it" when they get caught by securite. I guess Jess never left that high school mentality after all.

Can confirm. Knew some girls in middle school that shoplifted while we were on our 8th grade retreat. They stole candy and souvenirs, just for the rush. Of course they were white and well-off. They'd just blown all their money beforehand on other things they also did not need.

Since they had treated me like dirt the entire trip and went out of their way to ruin the trip for as many people as possible, I had zero problems snitching on them. They were mini-Karens anyway.

Which brings us to the most ironic part with Jess calling her detractors "Karens," because nothing is more Karen than thinking you're entitled to do whatever the hell you want and bullying people until you get your way. She's a Karen with purple hair.

By the by, shoplifting is a common symptom of borderline personality disorder. Well, it's heavily correlated to the condition, anyway. Given Jess' usual behavior from what I've seen, it matches up.

That's still not an excuse, it's just a reason. Some disorders you definitely cannot control, but it's still your own responsibility when it starts to affect the people around you.

People who blandly justify harming others like this don't just fuck over strangers. They fuck over friends, family and anyone stupid enough to trust them. If someone publicly admits committing crimes without the slightest trace of regret, you can be pretty sure they're an overall worthless person whose opinion on anything else can be safely disregarded and, needless to say, never trust them with anything.

Also on the whole "pay retail workers more" thing. You could technically argue that their "bonus" atm is still having a job. Though as someone who worked retail, I've always thought it kinda sucked there's no tiny pay boost or health benefits (besides usual) to offset the fact your exposed to a zillion strangers everyday. Heck because a lot of hires are teens who might goof off, you get punished for taking sick days in some cases.

Context: In 2017 Germany passed the NetzDG law which calls on a Social Media provider that gets 100+ complaints every year to make a conscious effort to block or ban content of "an unlawful" nature and requires them to make annual "transparency" reports on such issues. Authoritarians hailed it as a great way to ban "hate speech" due to Germany's laws, but the act itself specifies any "unlawful content" reported which I imagine includes the promotion of stealing.
