Community Tard Baby General (includes brain dead kids) - Fundies and their genetic Fuckups; Parents of corpses in denial

I found an update about Paisley, the baby with Thanatophoric Dwarfism, aka Thanatophoric Dysplasia, whom Bubblez McGee mentioned back in February. Her family was able to bring her home eventually and have a Facebook page called (of course) Prayers for Paisley.

Now, in still photos the baby is sort of cute:

However her chest is devastatingly small compared to the rest of her. You can see why she can’t breathe properly:

“Her little lungs can’t do it yet” AND THEY NEVER WILL MELISSA. Her proportions are stuck that way; that’s the nature of her condition.

For some long term perspective I found this medical journal article about an almost unheard-of case of a child with this condition who lived to adulthood. This is what Paisley and her parents have to look forward to:

B4BD2A59-EF5B-4F84-B977-C9883A19A786.png

A is at age 4, B is when she was in her early teens and at the peak of her motor abilities, C is at 22 “with pronounced tongue hypertrophy” and D is “extensive acanthosis nigricans with papillomatous elevations” at age 26. [EDITED to add:] That’s a skin condition associated with diabetes and hormone disorders.

She was able to breathe independently with supplemental oxygen until 2 months of age, when she acquired a respiratory infection. Cranial imaging demonstrated a small foramen magnum. She went on to have cervicomedullary decompression for this stenosis and also received a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. She managed her own respiration until 4 months of age when she required ventilation support. Between the ages of 8 and 10 years, she could be off the ventilator for up to 8 hours on most days. She then developed increased work of breathing due to restrictive lung disease and could only be ventilator‐free for 30‐min intervals until age 15 years when she became fully dependent. This was further compromised due to the progression of her craniocervical spinal stenosis, causing a high cervical myelopathy and quadriplegia. A magnetic resonance imaging study at 18 years did not demonstrate any cerebrospinal fluid flow through the foramen magnum. No further decompression surgeries were attempted. Within the last year, her needs from the ventilator have progressed so that she has now reached the upper limits of tolerable ventilation settings.

At her motor “peak”, she was able to feed herself popsicles, give “high‐5's”, roll, move around on her abdomen, lift her feet so that they could be kissed and position her head so she could use her tongue to play with toys. Her tongue hypertrophied as she used it as an appendage (Fig. 1). A developmental assessment in her late teens rated her social, language and motor skills at between an 8–18 month level. At 21 years of age, she was no longer able to use her limbs, was unable to lift her head and could only turn it to the right. She has some vocalizations that her mom can associate with specific concepts or things and uses winking for communication. She knows her caregivers and makes her likes and dislikes known. The loss of many of her capabilities was attributed to the quadriplegia, although there is a feeling among her care providers that she may have declined cognitively as well...

She is fed orally with purees and thickened fluids and has occasional episodes of constipation for which she in on a bowel regime consisting of medical therapy and enema. She has an intact gag reflex and a formal swallowing study was reported as normal. She has a very high narrow palate and prognathism. Her dentition is irregular but there are no caries....

She has intermittent exotropia. She has a cholesteatoma in her right ear that has been stable in size but has impacted her hearing. She last had her hearing formally assessed in her late teens at which time significant impairment was noted. However, she recognizes voices and reacts to sounds.

And here’s Paisley getting trach care. It’s a screenshot of a video from the Facebook group. Paisley was lying there looking fine until they sat her up and then she started wailing. Or trying to wail. On the sound in the video the loudest noise she could make was a tiny squeak, not even as loud as a kitten.

What a wretched life.

Edited for typos.

I read a story three years ago about a guy with thanatophoric dysplasia who made it all the way to 18. Unlike our boy Samuel Mann or the lady in the post above, he didn't appear to have any sort of mental disabilities. Dude said he wanted to be a journalist.

Christopher Alvarez is alive still; he is a scholarship student at Adelphi University, majoring in communications and economics. Per his Instagram it looks like he’s supposed to graduate this semester. In spite of his skeletal issues, Christopher clearly has a meaningful life that he finds fulfillment in, and is able to fully participate in and contribute to society.

From the medical journal article about the other case it’s not clear to me why the patient had severe mental disabilities; I am guessing it was oxygen deprivation from her breathing issues, but I’m not sure.

I don’t know if Paisley has anything mentally wrong with her, or if they can even tell at that age. Christopher’s case gives me some hope for her future mental capabilities, I suppose. Per the Prayers for Paisley group she is making some progress with her motor skills.

Missing part of his brain?

Try almost every significant part.

I think even the Hartley kids had more going on upstairs than Jaxon.

I’m sure it was a huge eye opener for Jaxon’s mother, when she realized her healthy infant daughter had more life and more personality than her “miracle” son ever did. Watching the girl progress and gain skills every day while Jaxon remained a meat puppet was probably devastating. But I don’t have a lot of sympathy for her; she chose that life. I’m just glad Jaxon’s completely pointless existence is over.

Seems that daddy-o is doing the media circuit? No hilarious bullshit from his dad about how he learned to talk or something.

“...what his family described as” just cracked me right up. Like “this is how the family described him, aaaand heres a pic of what he actually looked like”. I really hope he didn’t have the capacity to suffer because 5 years is a hell of a long time for that.

Oh, you're 100% correct, the Hartleys were leaps and bounds above this... thing.

Claire and Lola had microcephaly. While that does sometimes come comorbidly with structural defects in the brain, I doubt they were missing anything massively significant. If anything, the reduced gyri caused the most impairment mixed with the microcephaly and Lola likely had both to a greater degree.

Jaxon lacked entire structures. The one dubious MRI we've seen shows nothing above the mid brain area (thalamus and related structures), and even those are likely defective in some manner. The thalamus relays signals. His signals went nowhere. He had zero awareness.

I think Abby Brown has been taking hairstyling tips from Jaxon.

The Spooligans may have had more brain than Jaxon at first, but they were suffering from a condition that progressively destroys brain matter, so by the time they were dead I'm sure they had even less than Jaxon. We'll never know for sure, since Gwen apparently decided not to allow autopsies.

A prolife propaganda site wrote an article about Sarah and her inside out abomination. Apparently she also had trisomy 13 in addition to her goddamn organs being outside of her body, also Sarah whines about not being allowed to bath her and shit (maybe because the doctors didn't want to cause her any more pain than she was already in because I'd imagine being moved around and bathed while you're already dying from having all your organs on the outside of your body would just make it worse).

EDIT: it apparently didnt have trisomy 13 and was just suspected of it. It was still an inside out abomination though. Seriously, if you look at the image results for Limb Body Wall Complex you get some extremely NSFL shit.

EDIT 2: looks like they did a previous article as well. Amongst other things it says nothing about doctors refusing her a C-section and actually says there was no other way to get inside out baby delivered due to it having no umbilical cord. It also says they put inside out baby on a respirator, wtf.

Also her living kids apparently have seizures. That alone doesnt make them potatoes but it made me raise an eyebrow.

Reading those articles without the full context you can just tell that the doctors and medical professionals weren’t evil or even callous so much as standing anxiously around thinking miscarriage was likely and we’re probably hoping for it since the mother is clearly delusional and was hellbent on making her baby die by asphyxiation. Also that one photo where you see part of dead Beatrix (of course she gave the name suburban white mom spelling) and her skin looks like a cross between an elephant hide and sandpaper makes me doubt that she’s being honest when she said everything about her inside-out potato looked normal.

Also if I’m reading this timeline right, then the doctor at some point recommended abortion because a c-section for this doomed baby would mean complications or miscarriage for later pregnancy (and knowing how some parents grieve I’m willing to bet the doctors anticipated she’d try to get pregnant again soon after) but since she refused she had one, then her next baby she had a uterine rupture that nearly killed her.

Uterine ruptures can cause the fetus to slide and get stuck inside the abdominal wall, causing them to suffocate. This can cause brain damage, namely in the form of HIE, cerebral palsy, and seizures.

Hope that virtue signal was worth fucking up your other kid for life, bitch.

Yeah the fact that the doctor even put the doomed FUBAR abomination on a respirator shows they went above and beyond to humor her. That's a good point re: C-section and the risk of uterine rupture and shit. Considering this chick is a fundie who already had at least 3 kids when she had the inside out one you're probably right about the doctors figuring she'd try to have another ASAP.

And I think it's pretty telling that all the pics she posts of it are cropped or covered in blankets. If it wasnt as horrifying as the doctors were making it out to be, why not post a full pic of what she looked like? Then again based on what I saw when I googled Limb Body Wall Complex its probably pretty nightmare inducing.

I also can't help but wonder if some of these loud prolifers also have a bit of a munchie streak. They get tons of adoration and attention from other prolifers for not aborting completely fucked up fetuses and bringing potatoes into the world, it makes me wonder if at least a few do things intentionally to increase the chance of a potato, etc.

On a related note, I once read a quiverfull fundie musing that maybe the increased odds of a baby with Downs in later life was actually a gift from God... because you’d always have that child at home with you, and would never have to face empty nest syndrome.

That's pretty horrific. People with Downs aren't pets that exist to keep old people from being lonely, amongst all the other things wrong with that.

Fundies really dont seem to see their kids, potatoes and otherwise, as people so much as objects to get attention for themselves and promote Jesus nonsense.

Yeah, I’m calling bull on that comment that this other baby she mentions is "still alive today." From the preliminary digging I did, out of the 1:7500 fetuses that are afflicted by this every year, there’s only 3 in the world that have been known to survive for longer than a day after birth, and the record holder seems to have been 3 months at most. All other claims of surviving longer have 0 evidence of having actually happened. I suppose she can argue about the condition of this hypothetical baby all she wants if she never bothers to follow up on the case...
Here’s one where a baby with limb-body wall complex survived to at least 3.5 years old - The pictures are horrifying.

I preferred the black and white. That is part of the intestine sticking out.

I did read it. This case was actually delivered vaginally somehow. Surprised it had an APGAR of even 4.

The scoliosis of the spine was so bad that the lungs were impeded severely. They shoved the intestines in a plastic bag then spent months trying to cover the head hole then having to go back and cover the intestine bag again. Geez. Most interesting part is the use of Karaya gum sheets to grow skin over open areas.

Tracheostomy at 4 months, MRSA in the intestines. Pneumonia at 1 year from Candida in the intestine.

Horrifyingly, was not a total potato at 3 years old.
