I think the issue is less the left-ness of it and more how seriously they take themselves. The best ‘pro-Trump’ memes tend to also rub Trump a bit, but in a kinder way. If that makes sense.

The right wears their mockery as a badge, proudly. They'll wear a "problematic person" T-shirt because they see the ridiculousness of it all. Or ask "Hey, when do I get my gay death camp? I was promised a gay death camp!" in total jest...

The left claim they do the same, but the unrelenting insecurity shows through in the way they fly off the handle when their counter-mockery is counter-counter-mocked..... they really think they are too smart to be made fun of by anyone who isn't a moron.... and they look at mister "Where's my death camp?" guy telling a joke on his FB feed and immediately demand he be suspended (for intimidation and death threats) and then write pieces for WaPo or CNN about how "Support for jailing homosexuals on the rise among Trump supporters"

Their behavior belies the fact they cannot, actually, in fact, take a joke.

Also about California, it's good that California doesn't think they need Federal infrastructure investment and the declaration of Californian citizens as aliens who require visas to get into the USA and Mexico. That was the left trying to use the old "Tarnish reputation through sex scandal" trick that often would work since most empty suits try to pretend they're respectable, and in the case of the GOP, faithful and godly.
