Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Q for britfag who are doing the grocery runs right now.

Is it just me, or do the prices seem to be spiralling upwards? I work to a strict budget, so I’m price sensitive in the store, and I’ve noticed that everyhting that’s often on offer isn’t on offer any more. The 3 for 2 offers and the casual 50p offs have gone missing as well. I do the big shop in the same store each week, so I’m pretty sure I’m comparing like with like. I’ve been through old receipts and there’s definitely a bunch of shit that’s more expensive because it’s come off “regular” offer. Like, if you’re not overly fussy about the brand of your laundry detergent and softener, there is always some variant of the big brands on offer. So you buy what’s cheapest that week. Likewise chocolate biscuits, joints of meat etc. You pick up this week’s ‘deal’ because a biscuit is a biscuit and one week there’s Penguins in the tin and one week it’s Clubs, and that’s life.

I just trim off some shit I probably shouldn’t buy anyway, but it occurs to me shitloads of people have lost jobs or had wage cuts, and if there’s a “real” rather than RPI determined rise in the cost of your personal weekly shop, that’s going to hit some people awful hard.

Has anyone else noticed this or got reason to believe it?

It was partially to stop hoarding, as people were stripping any shelf with a "BOGOF" or any other kind of offer, even if it was completely illogical shit that nobody normally buys. Soup got stripped clean at my local Morrison's, when normally nobody gives a shit about soup at this time of year and it's usually 6 for like £3. Head and Shoulders was another.

Tesco removed their deals from the shelves first due to the spiking demand and people acting like morons, and when it began to spread to other supermarkets, they also pulled things to the point there are no more 2 for 1's or whatever.

It'll last till this crisis ends, most likely, and people return to more normal shopping habits and the supply line stops being quite so strained.

lol Made me think of this.

Let's all take some time off and watch some videos on food. You know the sort of food we can't get now because the CCP tried to save face and so we all have to live on shelf stabilized crap for months as the economy collapses around us.

Some meat is gonna need to be seared with intense heat before its all over. Also, I think it'll be time for a barbecue.

L'Emperor D'Macaroni has been caught arguing with a nurse during a hospital visit due to France's apparently pathetic responce to the Wuhan Cough.

He's apologised for it (waiting on the EU to do something, probably) and has announced the lockdown in France until May 11th.

The Mirror meanwhile, found themselves another "expert". Only for it to turn out It's another left wing lunatic.

OH, and it seems the PPE conspiracy that's going around of care homes etc running out or "not being given priority" is complete bollocks and likely another desperate left wing conspiracy being peddled by a left wing that's irrelevant to the current discourse.

We have tanks. Planes. Nukes. Troops. Ships. War is the continuation of politics by other means. The chinks have been ground into the dirt numerous times, by each other and by others. It's the only way they learn.

More importantly, social -- the chinks think they have the oldest continuous government on earth. Beat the shit out of them and force a puppet state for a few years, if only to shatter that part of their cultural psyche. It'll be good for them... eventually.

Meanwhile, this is trending:

Mini Mike not only covered for the ChiComs by burying stories, firing a reporter, and using fake legal threats to silence him... they went after the reporter's wife to intimidate him and her into silence.

The phrasing is so Chinese, complete with the gratuitous use of apostrophes/quotation marks to question the validity of a word (If you pay attention, most Chinese overuse then), false equivalences on freedom, and accusations that people are not ‘grateful’ enough (kowtowing to authorities).
It also adds that vague smugness that retards often have, thinking they know everything and being satisfied in thinking they do.
It's not only retarded, it's hypocritical. Since they're always trying to "enlighten" people on their glorious wisdom.

Sorry to interrupt the (deserved) Two Minutes Hate on China, but this ignorant Burgerlander has another dumb question.

I live in one of my state’s hotspots for Corona-Chan. I’m still working courtesy of the company I work for being part of an essential industry. Nobody at work has had this (that we know of—and it’s a small company, I interact with everyone who works there on a daily basis), none of us know anyone who’s had it outside of work like friends or family. I think you’d have to go Dark Helmet’s “I am your father’s etc.” reveal levels of removal to find any linkage between any of us and Corona-Chan.

Anecdotes, I know, are not evidence. Despite this, and despite being in a proclaimed hotspot, it’s starting to feel like all of this has been blown way out of proportion—at least in my state.

Am I just a sped, or can any of the rest of you report similar phenomena?

Imagine that POS as President. We'd be a chink colony before he was sworn in.

It's similar here, but most of my friend circle are sensible and began following social distancing measures in bongland the second the Health minister asked people nicely.

Majority of my family now-a-days are cousins twice removed as the main body of people who'd have been effected by this all died in the last decade, so I'm not very close with them.

Members of my family (again, distant) have had it though down my Uncle's line. Thankfully relatively mild cases.

On my housing estate, two people are known to have died of it, and my neighbour has lost a friend to it. From what we've been able to tell, most were ignoring any social distancing measures or any advice issued by the govt.

The problem is, for a vast majority of people, it will be just a mild, flu-like illness and there's no guarantee it's not... just the flu they're catching, brah. Some of us might've either already had it, or been completely asymptomatic (data suggests up to 30% could be asymptomatic). Fingers crossed, for the vast vast majority of us we'll never know anyone who caught it.

Turns out when you don't live in shitholes like NYC where people are stacked ontop of each other like good little bundles of tax resource and are shuttled around in petridish sardine cans the virus ain't so bad.

Resist the bug life. Personal space is king.

Well lord if I were the president
of this land you know I'd declare
total war on the Corona Chan
I'd cut her if she stands and
I shoot her if she'd run and
I'd kill her with my bible
and my razor and my gun
god damn aww the Corona.
god damn... the Corona.
I said god damn, god damn the Corona chan!

APOLOGIES TO STEPPENWOLF

Came back to check up on you people for a bit and jeez, wish I could rate an entire thread mad on the internet.

A country/population is not a homogeneous mass of people where everything everywhere is exactly the same. Some areas are hit harder than others. That's a given. After the first panic reaction by the governments I'm sure measures to limit the spread will start accounting for that. It just makes sense.

Germany is doing pretty well, I feel we will extend the lockdown which is supposed to end on the 19./20. anyways because the situation is still not too clear, but it looks good so far. RKI stated today that germany will not run out of hospital capacity to treat wuflu in the foreseeable future. We're still helping other countries and even sent ventilators to the brits. Our health system is saved.

Nah fuck puppeting, they need quartering. Give beijin to taiwan, north korea to south korea, the chunk of mongolia to real mongolia, south china to japan, free tibet, etc. And fuck a few years, don't let them unify ever. Already made that mistake with the krauts we're not repeating it.

What kinda state are you in? Semirural or rural? Then you're not a sped. Megacities? You're not a sped but you might be blind.

Mein Furrer! The Chinese are one sub full of SLBMs away from us having nuclear primacy.

If we were to strike first when our subs had a firing solution on Chinese SLBMs we could destroy all of their land-based ICBMs and military airfields and any subs not at sea. Depending on the odds they'd either get off one sub full of SLBMs or none. In the former, we'd expect to take out about half of the incoming missiles with the various ballistic missile defences currently deployed. I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed but we're looking at a couple of cities lost tops. China would be completely obliterated.

We've done psychological studies that show that the Chinese would be less likely to fire their SLBMs if you and a panel of RAND experts were on a conference call with them until their line go silent explaining patiently that America is an honourable nation and would never consider a first strike because it goes against our most cherished traditions and also our strategic doctrine and that nuclear primacy is a dangerous myth that our experts have debunked. We think they'd be sceptical but human nature is biased towards assuming the thing you must fear isn't happening to you and a conference call with them could exploit this.

If John von Neumann were alive with the current strategic balance, he'd tell you to nuke 'em.

A nursing home in my county just got infected when I was starting to feel optimistic for chances of improvement. For the sake of economy and morale the governments within the US have to plan for some let ups in the lockdown once May rolls in. They might not have a full opening but if they don't have some improvements expect things to implode.
