With a little tweaking (VERY LITTLE), this could be a scene from a cheap but well done indie-horror movie. If James didn’t obviously fetishise teenage girls, it might be less suspicious. As it is, the most wholesome possibility is that he wants to be friends so he can hang out with teenagers. Daniel groomed her online and then flew her out to live with him when she was under 18 (she was a "distant relative" that lived on the east coast somewhere I think.... her parents supposedly didn't accept her trans-ness. But of course supportive Daniel was waiting in the wings!) . He even paid for her top surgery and who knows what else. Luckily it seems like they don't have MUCH contact but I think they saw each other the last time he visited SF.
