To add to that, there are several disorders/conditions/whatever i don't know the right term that essentially have ego states and/or feelings of identity confusion such as BPD, and if you have that plus amnesia and/or dissociation from PTSD... Well, it's pretty easy for someone like that, who is scared about their mental health and in a suggestible state, to latch onto this--because despite their occasional lipservice of "DID is not fun", these people make it look fun. So they start fleshing those ego states out and convince themselves they are real people and can't remember what is going on. Double points for especially if they feel incredibly lonely and unable to cope with life. Instead, you can manifest your own protector, or maybe it was there all along for you! And they completely understand you like nobody else ever will because they were in your own head all along! And you'll never be alone again!imo it makes sense that a professional is trying to make his patient not acknowledge their splits for it not to get worse and to integrate.
just my 2 cents to that screencap.
also I am a bit shocked on how many twitter user and other social media accounts there are that "suffer" from DID...
but I guess its just fun to have an excuse to be weird and roleplay.
It's an incredibly seductive combination and I know we're here for the lolcows but it's actually pretty fucking sad. Somebody remind me where the line is between those two things again?
But also, yes, there are just people larping about it for funsies.
